Well said sirles, especially the "getting kicked" part - didn't hurt me getting chunks kicked out of my Boylan, Stewart, McKay, Disley etc...and it hasn't hurt the 3 fine players u mentioned.
True, it hasnt hurt them. But others like Nick van Hattum and Anthony Neonakis were mucking around in lower school XIs when I was at school, and theyve still managed to get to a high standard of football with Olympic.
Anthony and I were in the same Mana rep squad when we were 16, and he was just playing Regional league for Newlands College on saturdays. And I remember playing against Nick van Hattum, he was playing for Wel Cols 3rd or 4th XI in his spare time, to the best of my knowledge he wasnt playing senior footy on saturdays either. Correct me if im wrong about Nick though...

Well to compare Costa and Leo with these young lads at Wests is a bit far fetched itself...

thats a fair call, theres been a bit of an exodus from the club - but i guess u have to make do with what ya have right?
after a good-ish start to the season, I guess we're just looking to target certain games where we feel we can pick up points, try for some damage control in the others, and ultimately stay in the league for next year.
@ Smithy -i love when u agree with me.

A dog with a bone :)
So the point of putting them in this grade is to harden them up??? sh*t thats great development.
Physical strength is essential as is any other part of the game. Training with a mens team is a good way of getting use to this. It is also a good way of learning from experienced players If these young kids are willing to listen and learn ......

Well your right. But Im not saying everyone should be able to train. You wouldn't let any one walk up and train with you if they weren't up to it.
Freak accidents happen in sport weather you old or young. But i guess your example could have been prevented.
From my point of view I come from a smallish city where youngsters Don't have the opportunity to play a high college level week in week out so the only option is playing in Grades like Central federation level. Which is the norm. To get to that level required to play in these teams you would do 1-2 years graft on the training field before you got the call up.
What i made of the game[Wests] was the players individually where quite good but there wasn't a decent mix of experienced players to take control. I guess Wests don't have any other option with all their players leaving.

Furthermore, You'd be hard pressed to find many examples of things like that happening.

Was a great game except maybe for the bit where WU got two goals in the last minute or so. Tony, SO's keeper. with SO 4-3 ahead, slapped a guy. Got booked and they scored from the pen. Then they got another.... At the time I thought Tony deserved a hanging.... maybe still thinking that.

I thought that for large parts of the match some pretty decent football from both teams.

Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

One sour point (apart from losing) was young Frankie getting called a "n*gger" to his face by an Upper Hutt player after Frankie got chopped down by him. Uncalled for, nothing done about it by the referee. Its a real shame because I personally didn't think that kind of this was in our game here in Wgtn.
I hope you are happy with yourself pal. U know who u r.
Another possible intepretation:
Violent conduct in the Laws of the Game is described as such:
A player is guilty of violent conduct if he uses excessive force or brutality
against an opponent when not challenging for the ball.
Whereas, a Direct Free Kick can be given for the following
strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
and elsewhere
Cautions for unsporting behaviour
There are different circumstances when a player must be cautioned for
unsporting behaviour, e.g. if a player:
commits in a reckless manner one of the seven offences that incur a direct
free kick
So, a valid interpretation of the LotG is that if a player strikes (or attempts to strike) another player in a way that is neither brutal or using excessive force, but is considered to be reckless, then the appropriate sanction is a DFK (or Penalty as the case may be), and the offending player cautioned for unsporting behaviour.
So this is an example of a commonly confused scenario - raising your hands to another player is not an automatic red card, but only if it is regarded as brutal or using excesive force.
