Yeah agreed Monkeyboy, could have gone either way at different stages in the match. Although a REALLY slow start could have cost you that point in the first half. It's going to be a tight old season in the Capital Premier league!

Tight at the top and bottom. Although looking at the draw I can't see why Wests play their final game on the sunday when everyone else has to play their final game on the saturday. Surely everyone should play at the same time.

If you have alook at all the top leagues in Europe all final games are played on the same day at the same time. Makes it a level playing field. The problem lies with CF who have given Wests a home game on the last week of the season.
Not that it will matter, because the way Wests 1st are going this year they will become the Reserves and the Reserves the 1sts by, I'm picking round 12. Just enough time to stuff everybody's season up.

Second of all, we're not talking about a top league, we're talking about a reserve league.
Last of all, it wouldn't make any real difference if the game was on a Saturday. If Wests are going to stack their team then - as you've rightly pointed out - they'll have to do it long before the last weekend.
Sunday games are not the issue. What everyone objects to is top clubs stacking lower teams to save them from relegation. To change that would require much tighter re-grading/player movement rules, which would have different implications. In the College leagues for example, once you've played three games at a 'higher' level you must apply to the league admin if you want to drop down again. That's a lot of hassle and so effectively means some 1st XI players spend a lot of the season sitting on the bench because they can't get game time for the 2nd XI. It does, however, prevent stacking.

England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain all play their games at the same time. I think that covers all the top leagues.
I don't think Upper Hutt, Stop Out, Wharfies, KCU, Island Bay, Marist, Naenae and Wgtn Utd would think they are playing in a "Reserve" league.

i know wgnt united definitely dont see it as a reserve league,
fact of the matter is that reserve teams play in it. The timing of games shouldnt be an issue if the rules regarding the re-grading of players ensures that stacking cannot occur. Reserve teams are designed to give those fringe players of the first team, and not so fringe players returning, a place to gain fitness/form! If you cant beat them or really compete, then the jump up a league may be a bit much. Surely you would relish the chance to play them?
..and just check out the fixture timing for the last week of europe Smithy, it is a pretty common occurance to start them all at the same time for fairness of results. Just listen for random cheers in the crowd as running results are read out

Right, so whatever it's called it's a league in which reserve teams play and with that comes the reality that those teams might have players dropping down from above.
That's just life in that league and means that the luck of the draw is, well, exactly that.
It's not like it's just an issue in Capital Premier, players drop down into teams at all levels. I remember losing last year to a Karori team that had Michael Greene and Liam Dunbar in it - they were both first team players then. That's the way it goes though. We also beat Wainui the other week with Chris Sambrooke playing for us, he's a first team player. Cry me a river.

I agree with you Smithy that they could well have stacked their team by then. And like I say, if wests 1st team fail this year they will prop up the 2nd team with about 6 games to go. So the 2nd team is probably unlikely to be in a relegation battle come last game of the season, vis 2 seasons ago. But it's the principle.

Yeah, second teams play in the Spanish second division, but can't be promoted to the top division. A curious situation happened a few years ago, when Atletico Madrid was relegated to the second division, and spent a few weeks behind its B team on the second division table the following season. But I digress.
The principle I refer to boils down to that not playing all the games at the same time in the last round creates potential for underhanded collusion, which is why in the World Cups/EUROs/top leagues the last round is played at the same time. It's not a perfect system and can still fail potentially, but it's better than some ugly things I've seen in my time.
How relevant all this is for Capital Premier is debatable, so that's why I don't really think it's a big issue here at the moment.
