Who are those porkyboys no. 7 and 9 in wests team? They need to attend Jenny Craig and Anger Management courses. That orangy team was a class above that red team.

Nah the worst player was Jake (no. 10), who again just looked like he was out for a sunday stroll. I saw him play for the U21s last week and you would never have thought he was a reserve team regular. Was sh*t against Stop out as well. Today he lacked pace, lacked strength, lacked any ability to read the game or opposing players, just looked like he lacked confidence.
The young wests team had nothing on the experience of diamonds, G made it look too easy as though he was playing in the sunday league. He might as well have been actually.
Best Wests player today = Franky. By far

after G skinned our left back and set up the 4th goal, he put his arm around our left back and gave him a wee tap on the chest - that right there is the measure of that man. a real pro of the game here in wgtn.

Jake is a good player and at the start of the season was playing really well until he was bob-sledded by Le Prou when we played Upper Hutt and was injured fairly badly.  He was out for a few weeks and maybe it's just taking him a little time to get his game and confidence back again.  Oh, and he's only just turned 15 too so still has a lot of developing to do.  However, to keep singling him out as you have been doing both here and after the Stop Out game probably isn't helping his confidence much is it?  I know that this is a public forum and people are entitled to express opinions, but calling him sh*t is not only incorrect but uncalled for.  Maybe you could let us know who you play for and we can come down and watch you sometime and see how good you are?  Jake will develop into a very good player because he sets himself high standards and works very, very hard.  I know that's no guarantee of "making it" as a footballer, but Jake would put a lot of more senior players to shame with his dedication.

FWIW - I agree that Franklin was a standout along with Matt McKay in goal.  That's why they were both given the player-of-the-day for Wests.

Yeah.  Whatever.  I don't disagree with the "Island Bay lifeline" comment, just mildly irritated by the "average 15 year olds" one.

Getting thrown into the deep end isnt always the best way to develop as a footballer. You need to be comfortable and you need to be able to at least have convincing games, I just havnt seen it in this kid. But hey I hope he proves me wrong in coming games (or years...).
And why does it matter who I am? I dont know who you are, and i dont care. This is the internet, get over it.

Seeing this is a public forum I will have my opinion and be very blunt.

I can only speak from my experience growing up as a young player (albeit a long time ago now), but I don't remember mouthing off to and second guessing my coaches and Senior players as a 14/15/16 year old. If you were told to do something by a Senior player and/or Coach, then by god you did it - regardless if it was something you agreed with or not. Where do the young kids these days get their sense of entitlement? And when did the parents (oldbastard you're not included, as your a part of a current Cap Prem team Coaching Staff) become the next f**** Jose Mourinho?

I'm all for young players expressing themselves and "thinking" but lets stop telling these kids that they are "great" and "doing well" - when its plain for all to see that they aren't. It's making them think that they are actually "somebody", when in the scheme of things, all of us playing in these various leagues in Wgtn, are "nobodies" (save a select few who have had international careers and played in some decent leagues around the world e.g Raf, G Little et al). Things like the Dallas Cup and the like are all well and good, but really they mean f**k all, they don't make you a "somebody" do they? No, of course they don't.

I agree with the philosophy at Wests, in terms of giving young players a taste of senior football, but as i've said all season this is a Mens Football League, theres some fairly rough and nasty players around (am I one of them? maybe?) who are going to make crude tackles and throw elbows. You know what? get over it, it happens and you've got to get on with it. If its not your cuppa tea then naff off and play college football where your parents can yell all they want and tell you the finer intricacies of the beautiful game.

Rant over. Suck it up kids and get on with it. Mum and Dad can kiss it all better at home later.

PS Im no angel, just having my opinion - a few home truths were exposed today. One of them was that some of our team just are not up to it. And a truth even closer to home is that I am probably one of them.

f**king well said. I'm sick of playing pretentious little twats who think they are the next Premier League star, when all they are doing is falling down and screaming blue murder because they don't have a clue what real football is. Drives me absolutely barney to be honest!

I'm glad someone agrees with me (for the first time huh monkeyboy? lol). I'm all for helping these kids along and giving them advice. But on gameday you've got to actually remember and take in some of whats been said!

Classic example was WU scoring from a long kick by Sasha....I said TWICE before the game "watch the big kick, they'll get a flick and be through on goal" - did anyone listen? No of course they didnt.

But hey its a work in progress and im not exempt from that.

Western Suburbs should call up Rob Mallon, Aaron Taylor and Kevin Woolnough from there 3rd team.  Im sure they will jump at the chance to play against Naenae this week.

Can Kevins knees handle 90 minutes? Will Rob be sober enough to make the field? We'll just pinch Azzas glasses before the game! There! Sorted hahaha.

Amazing strike with his left peg. I would be suprised if they don't win the league. No one likes losing but you'd take heart from losing to some blokes who don't spout of it during the game. No niggle, played in good spirit. Some of that had to do with no one getting close enough to make a tackle.

for the record, i'm not defending the concept of paying players, it's reality. i'm just stating the facts. also, i'm not aware of all of the details in that regard at united but i know certain individual players are getting SFA.

I managed to watch the 2nd half of the wests v united game. a couple of things stood out.

firstly, Wgtn Utd were too big and strong. The younger fellas from wests had trouble holding the ball. Can do much when you are still a skinny fella.

2ndly, there was no communication coming from the back, organising the defence and telling these young guys where to go. Obviously hard to do when you are already 5 down, but a couple of the strolls through the middle by the utd guys left the wests players pointing the finger at each other. Again, an experience thing.

This level of football will do them good. better to experience it now and get used to it than finish college football and get a shock at 18/19 years old.

Also, costa and george babaourouses used to come to Olympic trainings all their time in their teens as did leo. didn't do them any harm getting kicked by us old slow fellas.

Well said sirles, especially the "getting kicked" part - didn't hurt me getting chunks kicked out of my Boylan, Stewart, McKay, Disley etc...and it hasn't hurt the 3 fine players u mentioned.

No no, I was definitly talking about naenae ( as odd as it may seem ).

I know the lad from wellington united in question, he has come over to see a good freind of mine who has also moved to wellington united with him. There definitly was no money involved for either of them, and he told me that wellington united were very upfront about that but said they would assist in helping him find a job. They are both pretty good players who lower hutt again failed to keep happpy.

True, it hasnt hurt them. But others like Nick van Hattum and Anthony Neonakis were mucking around in lower school XIs when I was at school, and theyve still managed to get to a high standard of football with Olympic.
Anthony and I were in the same Mana rep squad when we were 16, and he was just playing Regional league for Newlands College on saturdays. And I remember playing against Nick van Hattum, he was playing for Wel Cols 3rd or 4th XI in his spare time, to the best of my knowledge he wasnt playing senior footy on saturdays either. Correct me if im wrong about Nick though...

With all due respect to NVH and Ants who are both good lads and good players I'm not sure they are the best examples on which to base your youth development strategy.
