Hard day at the office for Marist - 1-0 at half time, probly fair.

However I blew out and let a freekick cross/shot in for the second, and we sort of wilted. Kills us when we just kept giving the ball to UH. But they were deserved winners, we just didn't scare their goal.

Oh well bring on IB

Oh and as for the Samoan UH have signed, he looks like a tidy defender, but he came on with 10 to go, and with zero pressure on him

Marist were rubbish on Saturday against a good playing Upper Hutt team. West 2nds will have to battle hard today if they want a point.

Petone's challenge for O'Brien shield was dead in the water (and i'd know, im from Wgtn Utd) after 20 mins- Bubbles running riot at 6-0- still 6-0 at the break

Marist 2-1 over Island Bay

On the whole, probly a fair result. Lots of stuff going through the middle, but little quality up front. A great second goal for us to win it, and it really did separate the two teams.

Definitely a great way to bounce back from Saturday!

according to one of the KCU guys I spoke to today they said WU had about 4 players out on saturday through injury, so not sure if they are under an injury cloud or just struggling still.

if anyones interested, KCU play a very basic kick and chase game  but do work hard however quite vulnerable at the back they are quite static.. don't seem to play too much out wide.

our scorers were C.Boyd ( 2 ), Sylvio 1, B. Hall 1 (PK ).

tough day at the the office for Wests Reserves today, down to 10 men with 30 to go, dubious 2nd yellow for J.Musgrove - UH put away their chances to be fair. At 2-1 down I thought we may have been in it....but not meant to be. 4-1 loss.Barber212010-04-05 21:15:38

Capital 1 thread is already whinging about pitches, so I thought I'd let everyone know that Fortress Kilbernie is looking immaculate!

Weka Park was definitely above average for this time of the year, benefit of a sand based pitch I guess.

Yup, we've invented a whole new skill move at Naenae Park, it's called the ten step turn around, applicable to the cricket pitch only.

Two problems with that.
Musgrove's two-footed tackle was a couple of yards from me and two-footed tackles/jumping at will normally result in a yellow.
UH put away about one in five of the multitude of gilt-edged chances they created.  Your keeper was brilliant.  At first I thought young and lucky but he kept doing the impossible - what's his name?

Judging by how he's kept in the last two games could definitely do the goods for Wests this year.

Don't worry Mr Blobby, you don't need to justify Musgroves yellow, as soon as his name and yellow card go together in a sentence most people in Wellington football understand :P

He'll have a sense of deja vu with Stop Out's 1st goal then.  The wall was poorly lined up for a lefty. Stevie G side foot pass into an empty near post net.

Game of 2 halves though.  We rode our luck in the first half.  Goal posts got my vote for MOM at 1/2 time.  2 off the crossbar & 1 off the post.  We could've been down 4 by the interval.  The lads hung in well & then showed better composure & finishing.

Well done SO.

Raceway is gagging for some water. It's rock hard.  Sprinklers installed last year & waiting on the council to install some sort of connecting valve.  Sounds like a Mastercard moment..... Maybe LHCC looking for one?

KP was mint. pity they scheduled the game on the one pitch with a cricket wicket.
Here is the match report. The author fails to mention that he was in goal. Not bad for an old man too. Hilly hit the woodwork twice in quick succession - the second after knocking the ball over the defenders head then letting rip with a dipping volley from 30yds.

Wtf is up with refs and deciding to play on cricket wickets? We also made the call to play no Number 2 on Saturday due to the ridiculous ice skating rink that is No 1. Ref said ok, then 5 minutes before the game said "No we have to play on Number 1". Do they just completely disregard player safety or are they plain retarded?
Permalink Permalink

Think they are under instructions to play on the pitch specified.

So your issue should not be with the refs but with the guys doing the draw...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

when did referees become immune to common sense?  ultimately if both captains agree what is the issue?

Normo's coming home

Permalink Permalink

^^^ agreed, the referee needs to make a decision if the pitch is safe or not, if it is unsafe to play on then he should have no problem with moving to a neighbouring pitch, we even tried to tell him people had broken their arms on it before he didn't seem to care, needless to say wests first goal came from out centre back slipping over on the cricket wicket..

I wonder if it had been the number 1 pitch on the draw, which didnt have the posts up, whether the ref would have made us play there with jumper for goalposts.
