I made another point about this in another thread a long time ago - referees are ignoring common sense and then hiding behind the rules.  No-one is going to get annoyed with a referee who applies common sense

I'm thinking after the whole Nae v Bubble play-off debacle last year that people are afraid of making decisions.
Surely player safety would over-rule a directive to stick to the draw.

That was more an administrative decision than anything though, didn't have anything to do with the referees.

Some people probably think, pffftt.... it's only a cricket pitch, harden up. Well I dare anyone to run across the Naenae No 1 cricket pitch at full sprint in boots without falling over. Free pie and beer at the clubroom if you can! Ask Paul Wheeler how hard the cricket pitch is, he's still recovering from a munted arm from the fall he had on it.

Palmy refs good at this - quite often games will be moved to a neighboring field shortly before kickoff if the scheduled one is waterlogged/unsafe. It requires that referees feel they have the backing of the administrators. If they think they are going to get hauled over the coals for making an independent decision they won't.

Don't worry Mr Blobby, you don't need to justify Musgroves yellow, as soon as his name and yellow card go together in a sentence most people in Wellington football understand :P

Here is the match report. The author fails to mention that he was in goal. Not bad for an old man too. Hilly hit the woodwork twice in quick succession - the second after knocking the ball over the defenders head then letting rip with a dipping volley from 30yds.
He didn't mention doing himself an injury the first time he was forced in to a save. How long is your normal keeps out for?
Love the last paragraph of his report:
There were a few late scares as the referee managed to find 10 minutes of added time

Thing is, there actually was.
'Hey lino, how much time left?'
'Injury time'

Fifteen minutes later
'Still injury time'

Naenae 2 Stop Out 3. Question for Stop Out people. Why do you have that Derek (number 8) the right back on the pitch? What for?

united 4-1 or 3-1 over miramar. I think all the goal scorers were ex miramar players

??? you hold a grudge against him or something? dereks a pretty decent player, Central League experience etc?

up 2-0 for us, 2-1 at half time then conceded two more goals off two corners.... weak from us very tough to take, a draw may have been a more fair result but so is life... two very good goals from abdul and simon hall, then brenton made it two one with a good strike from outside the box, then the two corners.... gaaah.

Soooo - we weren't meant to beat Wharfies were we?

1 nil up after 18 seconds. 2 nil up after 2 minutes. 3 nil up after 20 minutes.

Then Wharfies got an iffy penalty, could of gone either way, and an alright goal off a corner.

That was all first half - second half was a shambles. In the end a fair result?

Any team playing wharfies, they play long balls, like flicky corner and throw ins. Not much 'football' involved.

Storming start by Upper Hutt - 3 from 3; 13 goals and only 1 conceded.  Who's pulling the strings and knocking them in out there this season?

Stoked for them actually.  Always a full, friendly clubrooms and great supporters.

Its pretty tempting to whip in corners and lauch throw-ing into the box when the opposition keeper is terrified of crosses.  As a midget myself I could taste the fear from 50m away.

Any team playing marist, the keeper is terrified of corners.  Drop one on him.  Not much football needed.

Otherwise fair play to Marist.  You worked hard.  We made two howlers.  You deserved your win.  See you at KP.

lol - converting 1 scrambly corner from about 20 and then 20 odd long throws. Hardly phenomenal finishing and taking advantage of my 'fear' on Karori's part.

But, whatever, if that was your gameplan, guess it didn't work.

I'm gonna put it out there that I feel a bit sorry for the Wharf stand in coach. Goes to congratulate Marist coach at end of the game and damn near gets his head ripped off by a couple of supporters/oppo management. It was a shame that Gilly wasn't there- gotta love Gilly and Brian's relationship.

I'd say Wharf def had the better of the second half, could easily have sneaked one or two. Guess it's a deserved result though when you let in two so early.

Are there two pitches at Kilbirnie now? Apparently ours Prems had to share a dressing room???

Nope - our second team played before us. No one had to share though, it just meant neither us nor Karori could leave their stuff in the sheds, as our second team and Upper Hutts 2nd team wanted to get changed after their 12:30 game
