After looking again I think you are right. The initial contact is shoulder to shoulder outside, and the foul occours inside.
look carefully and you will see the united player loose his balance outside the box (both feet visible to Right of mar player). Did not see lino flag but ran straight to penalty position after ref blew it up.

I agree the united player looked like he was loosing his balance outside the box, but that doesn't mean a foul occoured outside the box, it means there was (what looks to me on a dodgy youtube feed to be legal) contact outside the box, followed by a foul when the defender trips/slides inside the box.

Looking at it myself and thinking that the referee doesn't have the advantage of watching it over and over again. I think the referee made a good call. Could of been a free kick out the box. But it was right on either way, so could of gone either way. Main contact and the foul looks like it was in the box from watching it over and over again.
I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

Yes I agree the ref was well behind play and made his decision based on his angle of view. The AR could have aided him. But this quite often happens with 3 point control, where AR's are reduce to lino's. Note, no Mar input on this so they must accept decision.

Watching video for the 100th time. Maybe ref should have blown whistle then gone and conferred with AR for his opinion before pointing to spot instead of as he ran in to catch up with play. Would give some credibility to close decisions.Hogster2011-08-11 13:06:39

Look at the video again Hogster.  The foul happens.  The ref blows his whistle and runs over to the players.  He doesn't point to the spot until the lino runs to his penalty position.  That is how he has aided him.

Video replays and video ref are not necessarily that conclusive and in the end, a decision has to be made. Inevitably, your referees need to do it and they have. Why cry over spolied milk? If you take human away from your game, you may as well be a bunch of robotons kicking the hell out of each other. Willl that be enjoyable?

Must say, that is a great idea to play UH and WU at the same time.

Yes will be great day, hope Island Bay have a good supply of appropriate beverages in the club rooms to take the win.

That is a cool idea, going to be pretty rough on the team who doesn't win and has to watch the other celebrating though. Will be particually epic if welly united can close the goal difference gap this weekend

Goal celebrations in each game will be hard for the players in the adjacent game to ignore!

Wakefield could be at capacity for the first time too.

Fuck this stupid game

If upper hutt choke and united go up united reserves can go up and will get a play off against wainui if they beat naenae in the last game of the season. But unless that happens i think they are safe

i heard wainui have kept their premier place!!i watched them play wgtn utd yest and they are def. a competitive but unlucky side in prem - way to good for cap 1 on yesterdays display?
if wgtn utd won prem and got promoted to CL, then wgtn 2nd team would replace them in prem (if they finish 3rd in cap 1)
wests relegated and petone promoted
if Up hutt win prem and get promoted then wests would stay in prem!!

Olympic Central League play Sunday but aren't going anywhere so can drop 3.  On the other hand, neither they nor Miramar will want Wgtn Utd going up (same player pool).  We'll see.

I think the player pool thing is being read to far in to. Have heard a fair few people from city clubs say they'd hate to see UH go up. But I also think that mar and olympic don't care enough to want to do anyone any favours.

I was under the impression that olympic 1sts had finished already so wouldn't be able to drop any players at all

This is correct - Olympic all done. Can't drop anyone, if they haven't done so already
