Well I was about about 3 yards inside the 18 yard box.  Pretty sure I had a better view.  The lino was dead in line.  Pretty sure he had an even better view.

I doubt Pedro could even see over the hand rail.
Is the point the foul occurred not the point where the players stopped the point the kick is given?

I think that's the point The Hogster was trying to make.

Looked like a pen to me.  Although was close to the edge of the box.  One of those ones where the defender was a bit unlucky, but still a pen.

Definitely not a red card though.  Absolutely not an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

I don't think it was a foul worthy of a yellow either.  So I think the ref got it about as bang on as he could.

I thought the ref had a very good day actually, although not quite as good as the double nutmegs on (who was the left back?) and then Jamie Farrington.  Class.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Actually the true crowd entertainment was provided by whoever puts the Miramar programmes together.

Four blank pages for "autographs"?

Now, I'm a massive fan of Wiremu "the Silver Fox" Patrick and Jamie "the Man of Glass" Farrington, and I even enjoy the work of Brook "Shields" Tozer but even getting a full page autograph from each of them I'd still have a page free.

Re the peno...Mar had their cameraman there so some footage may surface which could settle the argument.

I did lol at the blank pages too especially considering the Mar girls were playing at Davey F on Sunday (I think) so those pages could have been useful for that. Would have left some room for a Terry O'Donnell autograph too.

Fuck this stupid game

This weekend...

Wellington United travel to Richard Prouse to play ninth-placed Wainuiomata
Upper Hutt are at home to bottom-placed (and relegated) Wests

It's both Wainui and Wests' last games of the season, with nothing to play for, for either side.

You'd have to think both UH and WU will secure three points, and improving their goal difference will certainly be on their minds. Upper Hutt currently +30, Wellington United +27.

This championship race looks like it'll come down to the last Saturday of the season.  I've got good friends at both clubs, so I've got divided loyalties.  Not sure who I want to finish top to be honest.

Certainly Wellington United are the better footballing team than UHutt but best in the league is a very big call.

Relegated or not, it would appear Wests Central League team doesn't have a game this weekend, so they may be a handful and Pak n' Save Upper Hutt's apparent advantage be less than it appears.

Surely their first team players wouldn't bother, its not like there is anthing to play for

If their (first team) season is over the rules say they aren't allowed to play. Am I right?

Correct.  Can't regrade after their season has finished, which it has.

When a relevant Central, Capital Premier or Womens Premier team has completed their competition, no further players can be regraded down from such Central, Capital Premier or Womens Premier League teams.

Can't blame the ref for giving a pen for that. Looks like the foul was committed right on the edge in which case it's 50/50. Some clumsy challenge though!

The point of player contact occurs at 5.00 into video well out side the box. Upper Hutt will still win promotion.Hogster2011-08-10 17:22:19

I haven't actually watched the video (no YouTubes at work) but the first point of contact isn't necessarily when the foul occurs.

The Mar player looses his leg about the time the elbow hits his chest. Both players were well tangled outside the box, never had intent to foul but try to be first to the ball.

Pen before half time was crucial, changed the complexion of the game. Was he inside smithy? You were almost perfectly in line. The nutmeg banter down the wing was quite amusing, well done 2nd best and smithy. Big win for welly united, olympic to snatch something against upper hutt next week
The contact was both players turning into each other, they landed 4 inches into the penalty area. Contact was well outside the box but ref pointed straight to the spot.

Seems like a very large 4 inches, the welly united player is several meters inside the box when he finishes up and its not like he rolled around and made a meal of it.

I concur. The contact outside the box is not a foul, the foul occurs from a challenge once they're about a couple of feet inside the box.

After looking again I think you are right. The initial contact is shoulder to shoulder outside, and the foul occours inside.

look carefully and you will see the united player loose his balance outside the box (both feet visible to Right of mar player). Did not see lino flag but ran straight to penalty position after ref blew it up.

So what? There is no foul visible to me until the challenge in the box.

Stop being a one-eyed upper hutt bogan.

Hogster is quite right.  The feet are taken outside the box.  It is quite clear as evidenced by 2nd Best not bothering to respond, but resorting to abuse.  He must have watched again and realised he couldn't win the argument.

Being called a bogan is a complement to some people.

Tell me this then, if the lino (who is in the best position of anyone else at the park) ran straight to the peno position before it is clear whether the ref called a FK or pen, doesn't that indicate he thought/knew it was a peno?

There is absolutely no evidence on that video that the foul occurred outside the box.

Looks like Upper Hutt are finding all the excuses in the world for not winning the league (even before it is decided) and they only have to look at their own performance against Marist to work out why they have lost their lead.
