Unsure if Mick would have learnt alot.

Mick did not see all of the game flew back to Welly as Olympic had a late game against Wairapa who Olympic crushed 8 - 1.

rep teams = will not be named until NTC is sorted[/quote] if the best players don't play with and against the best players ie NTC players, why bother? My understanding was sth island tournaments were planned for the 2nd week of holidays so NTC players were available. I can understand why more and more clubs are going to north island tournaments. Sad day when sth island tournaments become festivals - the gulf between nth island and sth island will grow!!

SI tourney has been spread across 2 weeks of holidays for as long as i can remember. Apart from 13-14 boys groups, all other boys and girls SI tourney teams will contain Chch NTC players (nelson and dndn players did both last year).
On separate point, I think it's great more and more sth island clubs are going to nth island tournaments. To be honest, that is the ONLY way to get a decent yardstick on where players stand. Napier 19s, Auk 17s are great tournaments. Now, national FTC tournament in December too.

With Cashmere Technical winning the Hurley Shield off Bays today Coastal Spirit now have the next challenge, Coastal's third challenge this season.

Other games next Saturday - Halswell vs. Nelson Suburbs, Nomads vs. FC Twenty11 and Western vs. Ferrymead Bays.

FC Twenty11 could be in danger of being among the clubs conceding the most goals in a 8 team - 21 game season. FC currently sitting on 60 with Rangers conceding the most in 2007 with 68 with Richmond the next worst with 63 the following season.

So can see FC moving ahead of Richmond in the next two games.

Richmond have the record for the least goals scored at 9 in 2008 with Fc currently 2nd worst on 11.

Now that's a golden boot record!

apart from 11s in the first weekend who are not NTC age, all SIT are in 2nd week. So where is the priblen. Makes a mockery of SIT if the best players aren't there. Agree going to nth island tournaments are good for a tardstick but disappointing we can't offer the same down here and maybe attract nth island teams down here.

the 14's is the same time as the S.I. Tournament?

the 13's are in QTown , 5 days of NTC (Oamaru) then drive  then start the tournament on the Sunday. Given the ongoing and repeated calls around 'over-training' I think it's a fair cop they wont do both.

Nth Island comp end of year is only 3 age groups last I heard.

Also some people want Canterbury to not balance their squads. Does trying to even out the squad levels make a mockery of the tournament as well? I'm OK with the NTC players not doing the Reps becasue it gets more players having extra training at a higher level.

No, looks like he has lost weight since I last saw him. More of a case that Technical defense was not really tested cannot recall the Tech keeper having to make any seroius saves during the game.

No early score between Suburbs and Western with Western needing just a point to move above Bays on the table, with a draw as good as handing the title to Cashmere Technical for the first time.

Midway through 1st half and still no score between Suburbs and Western.

Three goals to Geoff McIntyre with Western three up up before the break.

Confirmed HT Suburbs 0 Western 3 so if it stay like that (a Western win) Western will move into second place with Tech then need a point from they last two games (Coastal and and Western) to claim title.

Western still 3 up early stages of 2nd half.

After 63 Ben Wright pulls a goal back for Suburbs from the penaly spot so now 3 - 1 to Western.

15 to go with Suburbs still trailling 3 - 1.

Western still 3 - 1 up into added time.

Points update: Technical 43, Western 38, Suburbs 37, Bays 35, Halswell 25, Coastal 23, Nomads 13 and FC 2.

Tech have Coastal and Western to play with Western - Bays and Tech to play.

That's a very good result for Western, surprising to see Suburbs loose their bottle at this time of the season. All to lose for Tech now.

Paul Brydon (Suburbs co-coach)in the local Nelson rag before today's game against Western -

"First round, I thought they were one of the better teams.

"But down there, when we lost 2-1, I thought that was probably our worst performance of the season, which was disappointing because we had just had two straight wins over Ferrymead and Cashmere Tech.

"They are a battling side; they are not easy-beats but technically, they are not as good as us.

"Man for man, pound for pound we are a better side than they are. We just have to take our chances. We worked on that at training - we did a lot of shooting and crossing," he said."

They may have been better off working on defence :)

Can't shoot as hit the wood work several times after getting back to 3 - 1. Western the only side to defeat Suburbs twice this season.

With Western winning makes the Western - Bays game a biggee along with the Cashmere Tech - Coastal Spirit game. The Halswell Suburbs clash always seem to have added drama down here - in recent years game stopped for snow before resuming in other Suburbs keeper Eddie Newman scoring a goal direct from and free-kick while almose scoring from another free-kick. In the final game can FC break their duck against Nomads.

Judicial Officer's report to the Mainland Board makes pretty serious reading. Why has this season been so bad or are people reporting incidents more?

Dear Club Chairman, Presidents, and Delegates

Letter received by Disciplinary Committee Judicial Officer

As Board Chairman, I am in receipt of a letter received from the Judicial Officer, addressed to the full Board of Mainland Football. The letter details concerns both the judicial officer, and disciplinary committee (as an independent decision making committee), have with ongoing referee abuse and sideline behavior.

The Board of Mainland Football support the content of the letter, and requests all clubs circulate the letter to their database. As recently as 16 July, our Chief Executive Mike Coggan sent out a letter to all clubs, reiterating the responsibility clubs should undertake in regard to member respect of referees and sideline behavior of spectators.

The disciplinary committee, themselves busy volunteers, have faced far too many incidents this year. The judicial officer has made it very clear that there will be little to no tolerance of continued abuse of referees in particular.

As Chairman of the Board I echo the sentiments of the disciplinary committee and strongly ask Club Chairman to set high expectations of club coaches, administrators, players and spectators in 2014.

This letter to the Board will also be posted on the Mainland Football website to ensure as many members as possible are aware of the role the judicial officer and disciplinary committee play in such decision making, as well as the ramifications where clubs and players let minimum standards slip.

Yours sincerely

Craig Rhodes

15. "Our referees are amateurs, not salaried or trained as professionals"

Some club first teams - because players are paid - don't view themselves as amateurs and want more 'professional' officiating.

Therein lies PART of the problem.

I find point 15 interesting, while clubs are held to account (vis a vis Clubmark etc) by Mainland in an entirely different manner referees offer the fact they are volunteers as some sort of mitigation for any mistakes they might make? Double standards certainly won't help the situation.

I received this too, but I had to laugh at the point 1. i. and ii - where is appears spitting at an official is deemed worse than assaulting them!

6 months for assault

12 months for spitting

Really?

Yea agreed, but overall despite those minor? issues I completely support what they are trying to do - defuse situations before we get to the stage of a policeman being charged with assault on a match official or hefty fines dished out to clubs or 12 months bans for players. It was simply getting out of hand and behaviour was spiralling upwards. Not good but with a bit of common sense completely manageable.
