Really good game of football between 2 good sides but tech showed the importance of taking your chances. Unfortunately the standard of officiating is nowhere near the standard of play & when the players understandably get frustrated & say naughty words rather than managing the situation cards get flashed around which costs the players games & clubs/players money in an amateur sport. With a couple of notable exceptions teams must think they'd be better off reffing a half each!!

Or players could not say naughty words. Fairly fudgeing simple.

This is funny. I like the way you switched fudge in there rather than the F bomb. I also like how you left in the e.

Try saying fudge or shark here and you'll note there's an automatic filter ;)

I have noted the shark. Perhaps I don't say fudge as often as I used to.

You can ascertain what your opponent is afraid of by observing the means by which he attempts to frighten you

Will Cash Tech be the best team (ppg/gd) ever not to win the league if they finish second on 55 pts?

Only can finish on 52 points but 52 would be a record points for 2nd with Techs current goal different the best ever in the league for any team, with their 76 goals for also a best ever record inthe MPL.

The lowest points haul for the champion the past (for a 21 game league) was Nomads in 2007 and Bays in 2011, both finishing on 45 points.

Started out as Bays United. Changed name around 1990. From Ferrymead/Redcliffs/Sumner area (the richer part of east Chch). Had reputation as a large junior club mid-to-late 90s then they started graduating to senior ranks around Y2K, and got their senior men's team promoted to MPL.

And won it once or twice with the legend that is Bobby Almond at the helm.

Once with Bobby in charge in 2002, the first year of the MPL, then won again in 2006 under Fred Simpson and then back to back titles in 2011 and 2012 when Mick Braithwaithe was incharge.

The Western trend continues. Interesting to see how many points they've picked up since Sideshow Bob got the boot...

Simon left after round 13 when Western had 8 points, so no more points then. Three of those points came in the opening ground when Western were awarded the win due to the FC Twenty11 fielding an ineligible player after FC 'won' the game 3 - 1.

Including points against Uni, his old club, no? Perhaps a wrong decision here?

I would just like to Thank Mike White for leaving us n making us better, Halligan for attracting so many good players and Coastal Spirit for humiliating Cash Tech twice at Garrick this season.

Oh and also like to Thank Western for being so so bad this year that it's safe to say the league is ours!!!

Too many "highly qualified" coaches coming through into the league/up from qualifying league with certain clubs but no ability to manage players. Can see the selfishness in their practice as coaches, holding players back, not seeing the bigger picture and extremely defensive when given criticism/feedback. Yes we need better coaches but this doesn't mean fast tracking them through qualifications. Hiring a full time coach would need some strict boundaries to ensure they have the club and players best interests in mind without only thinking about their own professional careers.

Correct me if i'm wrong but the league isn't full of "highly qualified" coaches currently is it. The only high quality coach i know personally has built a club from very little, managed players superbly and pushed his players onto better things. This one coach coming up from the qualifying league will finally get to showcase his talent come 2018. Hopefully more of these "highly qualified" coaches will follow.

It is lovely to see your loyalty Mr Ede to your coach and have obviously taken this post personally. My intention was not to personally attack, as i said before, "extremely defensive when given criticism/feedback". Your coach is a very good one as far as I am aware... I'm sure a number of people are excited to see you play in the MPL, both as a club and you personally as you have shied away from any challenging football for a number of years.

Without knowing Dan Ede personally or being a member of Selwyn FC I find this sort of post highly annoying. I would venture that is equally challenging to opt to play in your local club set-up as part of a Progressive Football Plan to see the general standard of football lifted as it is to take $350/week and part-time it in the Top 2.

I certainly hope my club gets back on track with Player Development Pathway and if that means lifting a few leafs from the Selwyn book so be it.

Here is an easy question:

Regardless of whatever level or standard of football we think/believe is played in the MPL,  will the promotion of Selwyn (assuming it keeps its current operating model) increase or decrease the said level?

For me it's an unequivocal YES.

FC Twenty11 1 (Michael White) Cashmere Technical 2 (Tom Schwarz, own goal) HT 0 - 1

Tech's winning goal coming in the 90th minute and just for Vim 'oggies' now leading the race for the Golden Boot, with 24.

So Bays need to win to take the title against Western with Western needing a result to have any hope of staying up..

Cashmere Technical 21 17 1 3 78 15 63 52
Ferrymead Bays 20 16 2 2 41 16 25 50

Nelson Suburbs 20 10 4 6 39 22 17 34

Ouch.

Thanks Vim lol. Dan's had the upper hand as unfortunately with age my pace has declined!

However, as Dan says, try playing on the likes of Parklands Reserve and Claire Park. They can be challenges in themselves :)
