Ah well, at least you'll know what style they'll play.
What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?
Welcome to University to the 2014 MPL - draw has them playing against the top four sides from this season in their first four outings..
First up away to nelson Suburbs, then home to Ferrymead Bays, away to Cashmere Technical before facing Western at University Oval.
Brutal.
Hope they"re up for it.

Expect that University will enter the Coastal pre season tournament. Will have something to go by before the real MPL games.
What other teams are entered for Coastal ps.
Not sure who Nomads are playing before MPL starts as not entering Cps I believe.
New coaches putting the plan for next season in place early which is good to see.
Yes but will all their players (University) be here for the pre season games, with studies not under way until March. Openinf ground of MPL set down for 22nd March.
I hope University can survive their first season.

Scotty why Nomads not entering the CS preseason.
Do you have to be registered as a student at CU to be eligible to play for Uni? Or can other staff or other students play? Etc
Kotahitanga. We are one.
Word is folks Cashmere Technical are losing at least 5 players of there trophy winning squad. But likely to gain all the new imports from Canterbury. Which is good for local guys I think not

Who going then?
We know Andy Pits and Jamie Smith both retired so who else.
Pre season should be compulsory I reckon. Why would you not wanna play against teams you will play in the MPL?

Roberts O'Brien Ede Mitchell and Barton. 2 of which signing for Ferrymead and 1 Coastal
Very tough start for uni, but are thr any easy games in the mpl? Survival is the aim for them.

Well I'm surprised that the Canty players are off to Tech.

We will have to wait and see. I was speaking to one on the guys you named and he said his was staying with Cashmere Technical.
Did any of the guys say why they were leaving as apart from not winning the English Cup Tech had a good season.
No doubt this forum will come up with plenty of 'transfer' news before the season gets underway.
Here is one. Will one club have to find a coach before the season kicks off.
You're a tease AW!
Should be able to work out which of cashmere boys are Danny's boys. Another reason to head to bays might be the $ rumoured to be floating about.

40k to spend is what I have heard. Surely not. And I bought a Bays raffle ticket the other week at Canty Utd, I've bought into it!!!!

I heard form a mate in Selwyn Div 5 team, that the club are "very" hopeful of signing Ede along with several other players to form a strong bid for promotion. Wonder if the chequebook has come out at all
all good for the Pride.
anyone else care to comment?
E's Flat Ah's Flat Too
Awesome result for Pride to go up there and win vs Northern who were chasing 3rd title in succession. With national club Knockout Cup win as well, fair to day - for now at least - Chch is the powerhouse of women's football in nz; and nz are ranked top 20 and rising. What can the men learn from the women?

Chequebook wont be the drawcard. There isn't one. Was tried recently by mpl player but got turned down flat. What's the point in buying a title anyway? Concept lost on many but by minding its own business they seem to be drawing in players throughout age groups. The term 'coaching not poaching' bandied around out there. Hard but refreshing approach. One of their lads that got overlooked by FTC off to Perth mid January for burnley training camp. Join the dots... What's the drawcard if it isn't money? coaching perhaps?
Very valid points and I think you could be right with coaching being the draw card.
Yes great result for the Pride to go up to Auckland and come from a goal down and win 4 - 2, so well done all the players and management for all the hard work leading into the ASB Women's League and durinng the league in recent weeks.

I understand that Roberts will be back in Christchurch for the 2014 season.

employ Coastal coaches?
You can ascertain what your opponent is afraid of by observing the means by which he attempts to frighten you
Hey shushy I'm talking about what can canterbury men's programme learn from women's programme. Are you?

Maybe it's time for NZF to rethink their development strategy - Christchurch based training camps for National age group teams? We certainly seem to have coaches capable of improving players individually and as a team. Many of the girls in todays win and the Coastal cup triumph were losing finalists in the Cup 2 years ago and have made massive strides.

Lol. I was going to! Honest! But then I kinda wandered away on another tangent entirely. I read it again later and wondered what happened. It was more an All Whites/NZF sort of a rant to be fair...sorry. :)
Yes it is interesting now you have directed my attention to it. With all the success in the Women's game, it is surprising considering no money is being thrown at them unlike the Men. Why is it so different. Is this the pay gap that people talk about?
I have heard that in Auckland they do pay Women to play, under the table of course, lets hope that doesn't happen down here.

Why would Longo have played for Mainland this year?

My comments regarding payment of players were directed to the local leagues, where it is supposed to be illegal however many clubs do it in the Men's sides. Women, none as far as I am aware.

So that is 8 of their champion team all leaving. Must have been a real unhappy environment. If that is what happens to the top team, what will happen at other clubs. Do you have to lose competitions to keep players? Dream on guys!!!
