Coastal's Facebook page says the pre-season match between Halswell and Nomads has been postponed again.

I think it's a done deal that Parklands are in.  But yes with no Western, and perhaps no Halswell, then yes we are in a worse situation than where we were last year. Despite being National Champs!

Sounds like just as well Parklands are in, as Western and Halswell now looking highly unlikely. Time for Selwyn and Waimak to make a case, as they both have a sound growing junior structure underpinning their ever growing membership.

I read the Selwyn newsletter (slow work day) and they announced their coach and intention to win promotion to the Women's Premier League. Never knew there was a promotion system, considering how Parklands got in.

Probably coincidence that Parklands Coach is/was FTC girls coach.

Womens game in serious need of more numbers coming through the ranks.

Plenty of players, it's fielding 8 sides of equivelent playing value in 1 comp that is the issue

Mainland and Netball should also hook up to eliminate code-clashing, some players still choosing one over the other.

yip. Mainland announced that pdl18 is the new qualifying league at the delegates meeting.  Waimak said they were informed too late - coaches and players had already worked commitments around playing Sundays. They may still have a shot at a case with the mainland technical department next year.  Technical department - how many departments are there???

Netball have developed a strategy to try and deal directly with the threat from football to their numbers, not sure they'd be too keen to work with us although they could merge as they now share the same name

I don't see how having one particular coach gives you promotion to a premier league, like it has already been stated on here previously, people & mainland want to see sustainability in lower grades & providing a pathway for players

Permalink Permalink

But the question is, are we just adding another team in, a team which may not have the sustainability and pathway considering their next team down may very well be U13!

Parklands had a 14th grade team last year so that would be 15th grade this year, plus they should have a pdl aswell. Granted Western & Uni have shown they can keep competitive prem teams in the past but neither club has much of a pathway or sustainability in their junior ranks compared to Parklands

Is women's 'PDL' still U18th grade?
Red devil, seeing as parklands only had a PDL team and 14 div 2 team last year, are you sure they will have a PDL as well as MPL team?

PDL is now an open senior grade for 15 year olds up (younger will need dispensation to play up). Difference this year that NZF/MF fees will be at Youth rates. Next grades down in ages is 15th, so all "competitive" women's ffotball now played on Saturdays, being WPL/PDL/ 15/13/11/10. Sunday league takes care of what MF calls social senior grades Div 1, 2 and ??

Only a problem if the council fines a club for using when out.
Never known that to happen, how many council parks administrators are out during the daytime let alone after work hours.

Waimak United preseason tournament played today at Kendall park.

Chch United 8 - Parklands 0

Chch United U23 2 - Waimak 1

Cash tech and Halswell also played but I am not sure of the result.

Chch United look to be one of the early favourites for promotion. They are playing Selwyn on 22 March which should give an early indication as to whether Selwyn are also in the running after their recent recruitment drive.

How did Selwyn go today? Had a poor game against Parklands but much better vs Halswell aparently.

Selwyn didn't play today - they are down in Dunedin.  Played Fri and Sat against local teams down there.  I know both games resulted in a loss (Played Mosgiel today) not sure who it was on Fri.

Next weekend Selwyn will play Sat and then again Sun to make up.

Selwyn didn't play any decent teams then.
Lost 10-1 to Mosgiel another game was 8-1 loss.

Wheels fallen off Halswell WPL this year so back to 6 teams, that is as long as no others drop out.

Time for Waimak to claim a spot in WPL? If Parklands can they certainly could/should.

What about Selwyn? Most of their players were 12th and 14th South island tournament winning rep players and came 3rd at last years 17th tourny as a very young first timers team. Gained a fair few by looks of the transfer clearances on sporting pulse.

Something must be going right out in the sticks!

Waimak got smashed 20 nil or thereabouts by Coastal last year. Not sure that's a good idea...

I don't think Selwyn is quite ready for WPL just yet - still work to develop some of them into the style they'll come up against - Esp up against a powerhouse like Coastal.

In amongst all the negative MF news this week good to hear we will have numbers for a meaningful league. Shame about the bye.

Depending on how many reserve grade entries there are, there might be the possibility of an MPL v PDL game each week. So which clubs are entering PDL teams? I heard of one club wanting to enter two ( but think one was really a Sunday women's quality side).
