Good luck to the gingers and skinny white boys, oh and the not so skinny [so we are told on here] left footer.

Go knock them out no matter how out of place you feel.

Interesting game down at ASB Footy Park tonight with Cashmere Technical needing a draw to retain both the MPL title and the Hurley Shield with University needing points to help their relegation woe's.

Permalink Permalink

Tonight's result: Cashmere Technical 1 (J Collett) University 0 HT 0 - 0

So Technical are champions and University will need to defeat Coastal on Saturday and then hope Nomads either draw or lose  to Subiurds if University are to stay.up.

Rough year for Uni, promised much after all the drama and hype of last year, tough at the top as quite a few clubs have found in recent years. Interesting to see how the once mighty Rams go next year or will they continue the yo yo pattern we've seen in recent seasons?

Chch Utd seem to have a bit of depth having won the PDL league, but in all honesty the level of it was pretty average at best. They will need to recruit well if they are to compete otherwise it will be a short lived MPL dream. Promoted teams seem to pick up a few players from the MPL team coming down, but if Uni do come down then Chch Utd may not be able to count on that. I would imagine most of the Uni players are at the University for studies, so why would they shift to a club across town, maybe impacting on studies etc. Will be interesting to see

Think fair few (if not all) Div1 2014 clubs would agree that ChChUnited was no where near Universitie's level of 2013. Think you are right Dinamo and for that reason Uni will be a tougher squad to contend with for those that fancy their chances of moving up next season.

A full 3-round competition in Div1 would be a step in the right direction and bring a better level of football and chances of staying up in MPL.

I know myself that Selwyn's chance this season was aided by a disappointingly poor FC2011. The team that drops down at the end of this season won't lose 90% of their top 40 players I'm sure, so will make for a much tougher challenge for the remaining DIV1 teams.  Wholly agree that Universities last season were streets ahead of Chch Utd this season.

I disagree.

Although Chch utd may not have the attractive playing style that uni had in 2013, I would say both Selwyn and Chch Utd were stronger this year than the uni side of 2013. Both finished with more points than uni the year before.

Chch utd play a style of football that contains most attacks and you only had to see the games against Selwyn (who without doubt had an MPL front line) to realise what their game plan will be for next season.

What could be interesting is if Mr Hall sticks around at uni, he must be a big pull for players to stay at uni?

Half of Selwyn's MPL front line as you call it ditched on them at end of round 2. Still they managed to roll out wins each week after that. Would be good for them if their young but experienced coach stuck around, as that's where the difference will be. From smack bottom 2013 to 1 point away from winning the league in 2014 is quite an achievement.

Your having a laugh right.. Uni were undefeated, both United and Selwyn lost or drew multiple times in a poor Div 1 this season, how does that reflect more points than Uni in 2013??

Can't see too many player's leaving next season, so could be a joke of a season for them next year in Div 1.. Although they may finish bottom ( which I think there is worse ), imo far too good to be playing Div 1. Will be an interesting Saturday, not sure whether to pop down to the Nomads game or the Uni game
