Good on Gary for offering their services. Seriously mate, Richmond is blocking their youngsters with imports, which is why all the young locals are now moving to Suburbs. Nelson is known for having a young squad. Adam Smith 18, Billy Scott 19, Erik Panzer 17, Dylan Kawana-Waugh 18, Gagame Feni 18, Jerry Donga 18, David Molloy 21 - all starters for Nelson Suburbs! How the hell can you suggest that they're not retaining players? Lets not forget Fox Slotemaker 15, Darrell Hannah 16 who have both played Mainland League last season. You are deluded mate.

As for the neutral venue - let me guess, you want them played at Jubilee Park! ffs Duffy you troll.Luis Garcia2011-03-02 23:17:20

Bays Barnett Park has been checked and found to be ok, as has Coastal's ground at Linfield Park. Great offer from Gary Hinks, much appreciated, we will see if it is needed but probably not at this stage. Woolston Tech could probably play at South Brighton and ChCh Utd could share Parklands Domain with Parklands Utd, everyone sorted and good to go.
I doubt whether chch utd will be able to share with parklands, the no 1 field has some liquefaction & some big bumps in it now , the no 2 field only has liqufaction but that might be too small for MPL

Stop trying to give our fields away Ron!

Surely Woolston could find a field out Cashmere way considering their merger proposal? Or is that confirmed?

From what I hear their merger is a partial one - Cashmere supply the money and grounds and Woolston-Tech take the glory, something like that. I wonder if their new name will be
Woolston Working Men's Club Christchurch Technical Cashmere Wanderers AFC (or WWMCCTCW for short)?
Somerfield Park should be ok looking at the photo of the Ryan Nelsen in the Press this morning.

Hopefully, it really depends on how the clubs are faced in light of 120,000 odd people leaving Chch. Not that it should really matter to someone from Richmond...

Good man Duffy, you stick to your guns. Completely understand your passion and where you are coming from. Every club needs supporters like yourself. Enjoy the season and hopefully we will see Richmond and Nelson in the League next year, that's got to be good for football in the Mainland region.

Great news guys. Power and interweb back today so I will be ready to retort should the need arise.

Coastal tournaments start back up this week (men's and women's) so things should be back to normal.

Play on!

Football back up and going with Waimak pre season tournament today.

ChCh Utd Res 3 Parklands 3,
Nomads Res 4 Waimk 1.

Games next Sunday will be same as today's to find winner etc.

Looking forward to Coastal T/M during the week.
I've heard that at least one club is getting masters grade players to make up numbers for this week.

By the tone of Ronaldoknow's regular mis-timed pot shots (just like his own shooting, some might say) at Tech Cashmere merger he is clearly worried by the latent potential of the club. He has good reason, looking at combined junior numbers, pathway to senior football and proven performance at top end. However let's not forget 3 slumbering will-be-giants clubs: 1) Dutch-influenced FC Twenty 11 - massive juniors; heaps of natural ethnic talent; growing corporate base; 2) Halswell-Selwyn: likely to merge eventually, lots of Pommie expats; growing growing growing + Lincoln students; 3) Waimak - potential powerhouse; that will probably end up sucking in Blenheim the way its going. Not to mention future Nomads-Papanui-Burwood-Parklands-St Albans-Western configurations. Looks to me like Coastal fear being left out. Good luck merging with Bays/Burwood/Parklands!

As to grounds, some surprises in store...

Ooh sounds like some goss before the meeting tomorrow night. Do tell.

Yes it seems mergers are happening more now. I don't think we'll be merging (again) anytime soon, everyone seems happy with the way we are going and the local clubs seem happy too. Never say never tho!

Oh, the Coastal reserves got beat by a handy Western side tonight about 4 or maybe 5 to 1. Good game to watch. VimFuego2011-03-08 23:35:21

Spoken like a true Coa$tal fan. Reserves when they lose and it's a Western side full of superstars eh.

Not meaning to poke fun in your ridiculous troll attempt but it was our reserve team. We have two teams in the tournament due to only 7 Chch based teams in the MPL.

Nice try tho.

Halswell and Selwyn will not merge, you heard it here first. The Nest just doesn't have the space for more teams. Rolleston/Selwyn/Rakaia merger might make more sense.

Nest will be rebuilt now, won't it?

Kotahitanga. We are one.

Yes it will. There are only 4 senior pitches (5 if you count the training pitch) and there are 7 or 8 senior sides already plus 2 or 3 youth teams. Apparently Selwyn FC no longer exists, but has split into Rolleston, Melvern and Ellesmere.

They finished second last year. Just because they haven't added doesn't mean they will lose. I will add that Gagame Feni will have more than just a few games this year.

Not at all worried about other mergers, sorry. The more the merrier. Don't want my club to be the best simply because of the poor quality of the opposition, as this does nothing for football. I much prefer well equipped and resourced clubs battling it out at the elite level as this is what will drive the sport forward locally and nationally. Bring it on I say. I was merely pointing out some of the difficulties that these mergers are and will be facing through my own observations and experience, limited as it is. As for my regular mistimed pot shots, I prefer to set them up and leave others to the glory

Sorry Vim, didn't make it, after you picked the boom box up it took me nearly an hour to get home and by then it was to late, will know more in the morning once I've caught up with G. I would be pretty confident of starting on the 19th though.

Season starting as planned on the 19th March, all games apart from Nelson home games being played at Tullett & Halswell Domain for atleast the first month, 2 games on a ground 11am & 2.45pm kick offs, no chance of night games because QE2 & English Park both out & English Cup likely to be played on sundays so teams will have double header weekends

Richmond has purchased a team to compete in Nelson's first division and are you sure the money is legit this time? I thought your bankroller Phil Whitely was now serving time for fraud?

Q: How many of the Richmond starting 11 has the club produced?

Even your young players are from Suburbs or even England. Not cool.

But stoked to hear the season is starting on time! Nelson Suburbs up in Wellington this weekend for a couple of pre-season games.

I'm not sure how you've deduced that from Mainland's report.
