Gareth Turnbull snubbed yet again by Mainland with Morgan Tomlin winning Women's coach of the year. Last year Turnbull coached the League winning Coastal Spirit team but dipped out to Craig Crawford (Halswell) who came 2nd in the league and made the Women's National Knockout semi-finals. This year after coming 2nd in the league, winning the Reta Fitzpatrick and making the National Knockout Cup final he misses out to Morgan Tomlin (FC2011) who won the league but got knocked out in the semis of the Reta and the 2nd round of the National Knock-out Cup, and who also lost 3 of the 5 games they played against Coastal including a 6-1 league hiding, a 4-0 loss in the Knock-out Cup and a 3-0 loss in the Reta Fitzpatrick. Go figure? Head to head the teams played 5 games with Coastal winning 3, losing 2 (both 2-1) with a goal difference of plus 10 to Coastal. It's a joke.

Have known that for years the the Winners have always had some dicky results, makes you wonder how much some of the judges actually know about the finalists and football!
Maybe the judges for that section all came from Burnside/Avon at some point.

And a very different set of winners in the Press edition today. What's going on?
Looks like the press reporter didn't scroll across in the previous post listing the nominees and actual winners.
It appears they have just taken the first person nominated as winner. I let my guitar speak for me

Prefer the Press results myself.

Press collect info first hand? Media release from Mainland? Surely NOT some dodgy website forum for source of information?
As much as I hate to believe it, perhaps that is the case. Lets start a rumour and see if it gets published tomorrow.
It does happen in the Phoenix thread where they get quoted in the Dom Post.

ASB Park opening today.
The Dragons Vs Mainland X1 game was a game made up of Dragons trialists/players & NYL players.
If I hadn't needed a round ball fix [after the wobbly ball stuff] would not have been worth the effort to go along.

Both teams a mix of ASB & NYL players the White team looked more the A team with Keith looking after them. Alan Walker & Pittman had the RED team. White won 4-0.
A run on the new surface and game fitness but need a bit more competition with only 2 weekends left till first game.
Red team back four was Schwartz, Terris, Nyomen and Blair Duncan not good enough on the day. Score could have been a couple more only for a flag happy lino when clearly not offside prevented two 1 on 1 with keeper.
Matt Thomas and new lad George [looked sharpe] had good games for White team.
2 up front for White so maybe we will see a bit more of this during the home games.
Red midfield gave the ball away too easy at times and got caught all being too fer up with no midfield cover on the White team fast breaks.

As far as I'm aware all clubs need to be running the WOF plan from next year. I think the older groups (10's and 11's) it is optional, however all clubs are sposed to be doing the younger format from 2012.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

That is my understanding of it too and then by 2013 everything up to and including 11s is locked in.
On a side note, I heard that the academy players are going back to playing for and training with clubs next winter with the academy being extra on top of it all. Sounds like a winner, until all these kids follow each other to certain clubs.... (both sides of the coin right there)

Wow that is great news about the academy. Until they all go to certain clubs that aren't my own! I heard Danny Halligan going to be PDL coach at Woolston/Tech/Cashmere so no doubt his team will go there too.

Its fair to assume a few will follow Danny over, they've worked with him long enough. But in saying that there'll also be others who want to/need to go to other clubs. Throw in ex tech/cashmere players who aren't happy with the new faces and there'll be plenty of movement of players.
On the big plus its 1 less entity in the PDL, and hopefully this results in it being a stronger grade.

The lads that Danny had last year had a meeting with Danny a couple of weeks ago on them all playing as a team at WooTecCash.
Ten + for coaching at PDL level if you want a ready made team as well.
PDL will be split for next season to mirror MPL [8 teams] as much as possible. PDL will be 2 and maybe 3 teams down from this year Cashmere, Csof plus Waimak with 1 piont last year a?
How Mainland then drop out a better performing club in this years PDL, Selwyn [9th] over FC2011 [11th] and make a second tier of only 5 teams or less work has to be taken into account.
Make it a straight MPL Reserve League [8 teams] and the PDL an under 21 league, may help the likes of Waimak and others bring along the younger average [read non CSOF & NYL] players they had in PDL this year.
Duel rego is back in for next year.
Mainland have been given the word from clubs to take the bull by the horns and get the schools out of Saturday football.
Being put in the too hard basket by the Mainland staff, so duel rego it is untill someone protests!! won't be a club, prob go under another name, sch, wmows.
Nelson will play all home games on Sunday next year, be good to see a few other games MPL during the season played on a Sunday down here.

Thanks for the news update PM. Mainland have put the word out about playing MPL games at English Park on a Friday night, Satdy arvo or a Sunday. Of course fees apply.
Altho I play football on a Sunday it does make sense to play Premier League games not at the same time as the bulk of the rest of the footballers. We may get more people along to games.

I agree, play the MPL games at a separate time to the rest of the leagues. It's quite annoying only getting to see the last 10 or so minutes (assuming your team and MPL team are home the same week) and spending most of that time scrambling around trying to find out what the score is. Personally I'd rather play at 11am if it meant I could watch the firsts.

Also from the meeting between Mainland and clubs that automatic relegation / promotion still in place for 2012 as the rule was put in place for three seasons (2010 - Burnside, 2011 - Nomads and 2012 - ????) and likely to be reviewed at the end of the 2012 season. AllWhites822011-10-08 21:33:35

Harry Smits due to business commitments has pulled out of coaching the Nomads first team.
Applications for the position of First Team Coach for 2012, should be addressed to the Secretary, Box 5259 Christchurch and contain all relevant credentials, experience and their expectations for the team in 2012. Applications for the Position close 30th October, 2011.

Buggar. Harry one of the good guys and not alot of qualified coaches sitting on the sidelines.
I think Western are still on the look out.
Anyone involved with ChCh United know if Harry McCosh will be back in charge of The Rams in 2012.

Mainland Pride 1 (Aimmee Phillips 41) Capital Football 0
The Pride also had a penalty turned down early in the 2nd half, waved away by the reff after the lineo flagged. Capital wasted too many chances after the break, could have earnt a share of the points.
