The big game is on Sunday, Bays against Suburbs, with FC Twenty11 away to Coastal likely to show if FC can continue their recent unbeaten run. Western play Halswell on Friday night with United facing Cashmere Tech, this looks like the easy game it pick.
So my picks are Suburbs to take down Bays, and Coastal to win along with Tech with a draw between Western and Halswell.

All the Canty Utd transfers have been signed off so should make for an interesting round of football this weekend. Must certainly push a few players out of the Tech and Bays teams.
Vim do you have 'inside' information as the Mainland sites shows several tranfers as still pending.

Some hot gossip from my mole at Tech.... Tom Schwartz had signed an agreement to play for Bays who were going to reimburse his expenses.. "CASH"mere Tech have persuaded him to sign for them insread for $250 per game + bonuses and Julian Collett has been offered the same deal plus Ken Yamamotototo is apparently getting a car and expenses.
Sounds like "CASH"mere Tech are out to buy the league title back this year.. Watch the transfers page on sporting pulse and this will be confirmed.

but Tech don't pay players
Heard about Ken getting a car a few weeks ago. Tech should have a strong defence now with those additions. Question is, will this nonsense of paying players ever stop? Everyone knows about it so people at mainland must know but continue to do nothing about it. Its not healthy for the league in my opinion. I'm sure all the junior players at tech and bays are delighted to see their subs helping to pay crazy wages to the senior squad

I rate Ken as a player with a lot of potential, but a car? really? he's that good? For me theres maybe 2 or 3 Canty players at the top end who could be up for that kind of 'payment' and I don't put Ken in that category...yet.

Surely noone is worth anything in Canty football Gings. With no prize money is it worth anything? Having the biggest club in town paying the biggest amount of money, it sure doesn't look good.
I said the same thing last season when this topic came up: Mainland need to step in and remind everyone it is against the rules to pay players. If New Zealand Football can tell NZFC franchises to not do it, can't Mainland tell clubs?

Bays just continuing modus operandi.
As for Cashmere, the new Board is splashing the cash on buying senior players. I wonder what those Cashmere & Tech juniors think about development pathways when they see so many players bought/brought in?
Seriously a club that big (1200 juniors between the 2 clubs in 2011) should be investing ALL its money into player development - but that would be a long term view and not satisfy 2012 Chatham Cup dreams.

Mainland have issued a directive to all clubs regarding the lop-sided scores in the juniors. Basically the margin for results will never be more than 7 goals, and last weeks results will be altered. Options for coaches to consider are swapping goalkeepers, swapping attack for defense and reducing the numbers of players.
Sigh.

Their inept management of junior leagues causes mayhem and they come up with this as a solution (and not for the first time)? One big fat own goal if you ask me
.
I love the idea of reducing player numbers, sure that will go down well with parents of stars who have got into top teams only to find they spend 1/2 the season not playing, and how offensive to their opposition anyway.Ronaldoknow2012-04-26 19:47:32

Barcelona! (or Real Madrid, take your pick).
Not surprising Ca$hmere getting into Dragons players with Andy Pitman as assistant coach and John Brown on the Canterbury United board.
One of the reasons Cashmere parents were so dead against the merger was because they could see their subs money going on the senior squad, they may well be right.

Talked to someone high up at Bays and they are only paying legit expenses to certain players from now on. Mileage to training and games, new boots etc. These players will be expected to do some junior coaching clinics for which they will also get reimbursed, if they want to earn more. This possibly backs up the reason that Schwartz decided not to sign for Bays and go to Tech. Apparently, Bays decision came about after the pre season Mainland meeting, where Mainland said that only these type of expenses could be paid and clubs could possibly be deducted points if they were found they were paying players just to play.

When Coastal beat FC 2011 on Saturday we will still be top of the league at the end of round 1.
Think we have a good enough squad to maybe stay up there, especially if Ash and Gareth keep finding the net with the same regularity.

Once again everyone is speculating, ie "heard from my contact", ''talked to someone high up at Bay" "This possibly backs up the reason that Schwartz decided not to sign for Bays and go to Tech", lets deal in facts rather than getting information second hand, as yet I have not seen any reason Schwarz is not going sign for Bays.
As yet until transfer have been completed all are are aware is that there is a clearance for Schwarz pending to go to Bays.
Lets talk facts and again front up ask the player's why the sign for certain clubs rather the say this one is being paid this or that.
Surely it is up to any player to sign for whoever they wish so long as it is within the transfer regs.
Also GunnerKen your comments "Talked to someone high up at Bays and they are only paying legit expenses to certain players from now on."
Hopefully no one on here from the Inland Revenue has "someome high up in Bays" may have left the club open for an investigation.

Great to see a couple of new names from within the Mainland Region entering the Chatham Cup with Wesport COS playing Blenheim Rangers on Saturdaywith the winner away to Coastal Spirit in the next round.
Does anyone have any infor on either club?.

Marlborough have been a regular in the Nelson division one. They jumped between being a Marlborough rep team and an actual club. But they lost their coach to work commitments and a host of players moved out of town so they are now back in their own local competition. Their captain is now at FC Nelson Sprig & Fern.
I hope Wakefield (who are in the Nelson second division) playing FC Nelson (The combined team of their two first division clubs) go through!
But it'll be FC Nelson vs Nelson Suburbs surely.

This is a perfect forum for gossip lets not get too precious. Thats why we come here. I'll change the subject.
What's the story with West Coast? Not a club according to website, but only wild accusation as per normal.

How about this for a reply to above Mainland request, makes a monkey of a comp in Div1.
Thanks for the two emails - I'm totally with you on the goal difference - SBHS who we beat 24 nil had players who had never played football before and had only practised once or twice - I was wild when I found that out - what are they doing in Div 1 mmmmmmm!
Christ I played my goalie as striker in the second half and strikers as backs - that's no good for anyone!!
There are other teams who I know of in Div 2 who are miles better and we would struggle to beat them by the new 7 goal rule - They aren't allowed to come up because there is already one team from their club in Div 1 - another stupid bloody rule!!
Sorry to be sounding mad at you - I'm not - just frustrated when we put in all the work to be competitive and the schools in particular don't bother - get rid of them I say - make them play on a Wed
What will Mainland want top teams [Junior or Senior] to do next.

Today's clearances show the transfer to Bays has been cancelled for Schwartz and he is now approved to go to Woolston.

If i was a club administrator who put a team in div 1 that got smacked 24-0, I would expect to be sacked and the team drop about 3 divisions immediately. And where is that SBHS team this week? Still in DIV 1 and playing STAC. Now tell me how is it that SBHS and STAC get a DIV 1 team first year of high school? I don't recall that happening in the last 10 years. Anyone answer that?

just for playing? yeah to a degree I agree. Western has the potential to use someone like Clapham to raise the clubs profile, bring in more juniors etc but they don't. For me he'd be about the only one worth it. (We do have some top players in the region who are employed as club FDMs etc but thats a tad different if they actually do work...)

14s is an utter shambles. Where are the likes of Western, Chch United and a host of other clubs? If the schools are the only ones with the balls to jump into div 1 at that level then I have no qualms with it (as long as they're up to standard)
On a side note STAC play 13s (and 12s?) so they may have earnt their way up

in the poor organization arena, we turned up to find no posts and no marked field... worse still two fields marked across the one we were supposed to play on. Unacceptable really. The home coach was pretty upset, more so when I said this equates to a default
as he has the far stronger team and his side should win D1. The issue of course becomes it's his boys that miss out on the win if I protest. sigh. latest on the field issue is that the Intermediate size has been made smaller. Nice to know after all the fields are marked out
and we've trained for 2 months on the old style specs. E's Flat Ah's Flat Too

since the mainland premier league doesn't exactly have a large fleet street following, i say rumor and third party observations are probably just about right for this forum
Plus you should never let the dull boring truth come between you and a great story just because it's based on rumour and innuendo. Much more interesting!

Talking of rumours, what's with the lack of an update on the Sporting Pulse results page https://www.sportingpulse.com/comp_info.cgi?c=1-4206-0-194846-0&fdtm=15&pool=1&a=FIXTURE and ladder for the MPL? Still shows no result for the Coastal v Suburbs game. What's with that?

Further to my other comment about the West Coast team being in the Chatham Cup, it appears they are called Westport Cosmopolitan, which perhaps is an official club and not a gathering of West Coast players.
