So I get home after a long day supporting Coastal (losing mind you) and I see this post I wrote earlier in the day saying how Coastal would beat Dunedin Tech and Suburbs would smash Tech and Western would lose to Dunedin Varsity and I see that I hadn't pressed the save button and my post would never be seen.
Funny that.
Not that funny.

Wasn't a great game tbh. Nomads had a lot of shots and were at the right end quite a bit. Nomads goal came from the keeper cocking up a back pass while FC's goal came from a great wee break down their left.
What's with PDL B league? Selwyn have had all results canned and have defaulted this weekend's upcoming game too. Is it holiday time at the Academy? Makes a bit of a joke of the league for other teams. Any explanation from club honchos or, alternatively, those in the know.
Kotahitanga. We are one.
Mainland have announced call for junior rep coaches. Will the selection process be any better than various debacles last year?
Meanwhile, i heard a certain "back in the day" club person told players from one of his clubs teams that they had the "inside running" for the rep team he believes he will be coaching. Oh dear...

I get the feeling they were only in it to make organising games easier, although some have been saying that one or two teams resorted to trying to hack them off the park... Either way its not like anyone in PDL should be fussed about winning the thing, its just there as a tune up league

Heard they have withdrawn from the league altogether, upset they way some of the other teams were playing against them.

New Zealand Football: Dunedin teams at home in ASB Chatham Cup fourth round
June 26, 2012
AUCKLAND – The fourth round of the ASB Chatham Cup will take centre stage in Dunedin on the weekend of July 7 and 8 with the city’s big two football clubs each landing home advantage in this morning’s draw.
Southern League leaders Dunedin Technical drew four-time winners Western from Christchurch, and Cashmere Technical will also travel south to meet Caversham with both matches likely to be played at the Caledonian.
Manukau City, the lowest ranked side left in the last 16 of the 85th running of the knockout competition, also fared relatively well by avoiding the five Northern Premier League sides. However, a home tie against first division outfit Papatoetoe will still be their toughest test yet.
Northern first division leaders Birkenhead United will hope the Shepherd’s Park faithful give them the edge over Hamilton Wanderers as they look to reach the quarterfinals for just the second time in the cup’s 89 year history, while giant-killers Stop Out are eying a third Central League scalp when they take on four time winners Miramar away at David Farrington Park.
After gaining revenge on champions Wairarapa United in the third round, last year’s runners up Napier City Rovers travel to Lower Hutt City for an all-Central League clash, while the Northern Region sees two heavyweight fixtures with Three Kings United hosting Central United in Auckland and Melville hosting Auckland’s Eastern Suburbs at Hamilton’s Gower Park.
The eight fourth round winners will enter an open national draw for the Chatham Cup quarterfinals. The final of the ASB Chatham Cup is scheduled for August 25.

They're starting earlier than usual thankfully. Still think we're a bit behind the other regions but ah well.
Not exactly a good look if its true, which age group?

Enter a men's comp be prepared to play men's football. There was a bit of a fight between them and Pap redwood PDL, don't know how big but hear a few of the Selwyn boys got dealt to.
PDL B can hardly be called senior football though, more like a top youth league for clubs that don't (or can't) actively compete in u18's div 1. Trouble is in christchurch as soon as a team can't cope with skill they respond by trying to kick the other team off the park, as opposed to just trying to play better. Its a real shame that a group of lads had to be pulled from a competition (if this is the reason) because a team took exception to them being talented, you have to wonder what was going through their heads if they were trying to pick fights with a group of 15 year olds :/
Not a good look at all if its true

Bit harsh, 99% of the burwood, varsity & pap redwood teams would be 19-20something, while the remaining clubs are all in PDL A and U/18 D1.
And I wouldn't say it was them trying to pick fights with 15 year olds either. Having been around the game long enough I've seen time and time again some of the young players who get fast tracked through the grades are cocky little sh*ts who throw the toys when things don't go their way and lash out.

One of the benefits of bringing a few talented players into senior club teams (as opposed to playing together en masse) is that there is a bit of experience around them to help them adjust - and pull their head in if need be.

Woops, didn't seem so harsh at the time of writing...
I am quite familiar with a lot of the guys at pap redwood, I'm not saying they are bad people but if the game got niggly I can guarantee that they would have initiated it, its just the way they play. Plus the Selwyn lads are taught to be really disciplined on the pitch.
Its not good to speculate about this sort of thing but you can probably now see where my last post was coming from, although 'picking fights' was probably the wrong phrase to use.
And the PDL B not being a senior league was not a reflection on the age of the guys involved, more the style of play in the league. There's more emphasis on technical play and the physicality/speed is not that full on. I certainly wouldnt compare it to most of Div 1 (let alone MPL) based on what i have seen in terms of speed and physicality.
All in all I guess I'm a bit sick of seeing older players in general trying foul younger, more skillful players out of the game. I understand people are trying to counteract their ability but I think chopping them at every oppurtunity is foolish (especially the way some seem to see a great deal of glory in it), there has to be another way.

Fair enough now your point makes more sense.
Does Bateson working for mainland take him out of his CSFC positions?
Paul Bateson (first team player and coach of various junior teams at Coastal Spirit) has been announced as Mainland's new RDO. Coastal's loss, Mainland's gain would be my view.
Yes that's good and bad news for the club. Great news for him obviously, and the extra kids that now get his coaching. Good news for the club in that we are producing coaches now recognised for higher honours, after coming through a coaches network where Monsef coaches our coaches. But bad news in the fact that he will hang up his coaches hat for our Kanga Cup trip to Australia which he has done for 2 years (will still go next week) however onwards and upwards!
More gossip to come too!
I let my guitar speak for me
Great new for Paul but why take so long to offically release the appointment considering the 'word' was that it was Paul weeks ago.
Yer I dunno bout that, but I wasn't going to be the one to start the word. Was pretty obvious when he turns up for practice in a Mainland car!

In the transfer news I see Simon Gatward-Smith has moved back to Nelson and resigned for Suburbs after starting the season at Cashmere Technical.
A couple of International Transfers earlier in the week for FC 2011 and ChCh United:
| International Transfers | FC TWENTY 11 | Caires, Mizael | Approved | 13/06/12 | 22/06/12 |
| International Transfers | Christchurch United | Fahy, Darragh | Approved | 05/06/12 | 27/06/12 |
anyone know if these guys are in 1st team squads, in the case of Caires interesting links if you google his name.

Very interesting. Back for Canty united?
Coastal drew 2-2 with FC 2011 today.
Other results:
Halswell 1 Western 2
Cashmere Tech 3 ChCh United 1
Ferrymead Bay vs. Nelson Suburbs Sunday 2pm at Barnett Park
so this has seen a few changes on the table, mainly at the bottom half with Western now moving ahead of both FC and ChCh United.
Points: Suburbs 25, Bays 25, Technical 21, Coastal 20, Halswell 18, Western 12, FC 12, United 10.
Div 1 results:
Selwyn 2 Mid Canty 1
FC Twenty 1 Cashmere Tech 0
Halswell 2 University 2
Waimak 0 Nomads 4
so with University dropping points in the draw Nomads lead with 25 to University 21, Tech 16, Waimak and Selwyn 14, FC 2011 10, Halswell 6, Mid Canty 5.
Nomads last four games against Selwyn, Mid Canty Cashmere Tech and University, with Uni to play FC 2011, Waimak, Selwyn and Nomads.
Does anyone know if University will take promotion if they win the league.

Word is that they will, although could be tough going with the league back to a four point gap, seems to be that its all a matter of surviving the Uni holidays for them!
