Big Keiran has committed to Bays though so I cant see how they will get throgh him.   Great guy inall, wouldn't say he's unbeatable tho right?

I heard Western have asked Harry McCosh to play up front due to lack of numbers. Apparently he was always a #10?

Hey so what club will get hurt the most if Dragons make play offs? Obviously Nelson will have all 6 of their new Tasman recruits for the start of the season. Game 1 against Tech will be a lot easier for them if Willys army March on !!    Considering the bulk of both teams are either in Tech or Nelson it could be a case for a postponement.

Postponements are for when players are on international duty and only if three, or more playersc from the one club.

Seeing as someone mentioned Sunday league players playing in the MPL.

Is this the same Messiah from Coastal that has been trying to pay [or is it Stroudy money] an ex Avonhead Sunday League player to go and play for CS?

Is it actually true that Messiah went to UK for a week to talk to scouts and an agent? Seems like overkill for a measly MPL coach.... Expect to see a few international transfers for Coastal over the next few weeks... apperently

I take it you aren't on the Messiah snapchat. That didn't look like the UK to me.

Geez I've read some sh!t in the last week.

6 weeks out and already plenty of Coastal chat.

Yes correct Messiah is in talks with some Europeans. Contacts he got introduced to when in UK  2015 and also has a contact here in Chch that is searching for specific kinds of players.

I guess the plan this year is to be 12 points better. In Messiah we trust!!

Well supported, top coach and top players. Hopefully with a little luck and not get ahead of ourselves, it will be happy days.

Good luck have fun.

AND no, they aint getting paid :( jog on

That's the funniest post I've ever seen "In talks with Europeans" Sounds like he can't attract anyone local... desperate looking overseas to come and play in a Mickey Mouse league

Yes Tony Jones!! Im so excited to see what this centre forward will be like. Im sure you cant wait to see him play? Hopefully he will bring more bums on seats on the train. Who has your club signed? Anyone exciting?

Well if more players of his calibre come over, maybe it wont be such a Mickey Mouse league? Im all for that.

Got told today we have two away trips to Nelson this year!!! Frothing for them.

Cant watch any friendlies until cricket season is over but im already thinking about the train!!!

Hiya Train, thanks for your reply Sorry you're right, it's not a Mickey Mouse league cos you've got the likes of Tech and Bays I meant to say Mickey Mouse club

Its ok to be envious. But to be envious with terrible banter in a public forum is clearly not a good combination.

If you had a clue you will know Nelson are miles ahead of old 27 point season Bay$

Disrespecting the league then disrespecting the club that is obviously attracting lots of attention and doing some really cool things.

Envious or jealous, one of the two.

From here on in I know your not worth replying to.

Next?

when will you coastal lot learn? For past 2 seasons you have talked your team up only for them to fail. Just let the football on the pitch do the talking! Will admit your team has 10% (that's all) increased chance of winning this year only due to the legend JB standing down.

I believe it's called passion, and heart and all that. Having a few new players and talking it up is all part of the deal.

And like it or not, YOU are still talking about us, so it's working. This would be a pretty boring forum if it was all just statistics from AW82 and links to the stuff sports page.

Nelson Bays' Football General Manager Clive Beaumont:

"I kind of hoped those players would stay and play for Suburbs, along with a couple of the others, and that guys would stay around Nelson and play in Nelson. But I don't think that's the case and we haven't got a cheque book like Phil has and that's the difference," Beaumont said.

"The simple fact is they're going there because the money is easier to come by and because they believe the Central League is better than the Mainland Premier League, which is a huge debate."

Not sure there's much debate about the relative standards of Central League and the MPL, but still.

Watched Coastal play a pre-season against Selwyn today.  Pretty solid effort from both sides I thought.  I actually quite liked the way Coastal played and the movement on and off the ball.  Looks like they may have some newish players (But I have only ever seen Coastal play couple times so who knows)  Certainly a different style to that of Cashmere (under Mr Browns successful days).

Will be interesting to see how Cashmere change this year.

New to forum but not new to Chch football.

As name suggests I don't hold any allegiances with any one specific club, I'm (for now) neutral!

After an exciting term last year hoping for more to follow this 2017. Has there been much talk of favourites to do well/badly yet?

I'll be making my own predictions after week 5 so look out for that!

Dragoon, do Coastal look good or just entertaining? Which players shone for them?

Has anyone seen Cash Tech or Bays play friendlies yet? I guess the MPL title will be between them?

If anyone knows of upcoming friendly fixture dates/times please post so I can enjoy Saturdays as they're supposed to be!

I've seen Bays play a Friendly vs Selwyn the week before :) Also looked pretty good.  I couldn't really tell you from Coastal who looked not sure of their names I'm afraid.  Lad in the back line (Number 3) dark hair - looked to be a controlling figure in the backline and controlled it well.  Mid field looked fairly sharp.  But I'm not much use after that.

Thanks for the info on fixtures etc, that tournament could be interesting! Some big clubs going head to head there, can't imagine coaches selecting main players though, recipe for disaster with potential injuries from dangerous tackles occurring with rivals (Coastal & Tech).

Cheers Dragoon for the scout report, Coastal have some good defenders and the talk of new Brazilians sounds exciting for the MPL!

With Canterbury getting 3 points, both Coastal and Bays will be hoping the Dragons secure playoffs so they can lead the title charge over a depleted Tech team!

A game  was abandoned at the waimak tournament today after a Coastal spectator went on the pitch and threatened the ref.

Not needed, good young ref as well

That's poor form. On another note enjoyed our game vs the Cashtech Side featuring many MPL players vs Selwyn. For the record we went down 5-2. I'm bloody knackered from Chasing Mr White most of the game. Ref also did a solid job. Side Note please can the other half of pitch be mowed. :)

Yer deffo not acceptable however there is a little more to the story, I had front row seats for the incident.

Coastal 16 year old gets pole axed by a player who had joked before the game about smashing some schoolkids. It happened right in front of his dad who was pretty pissed off as it was super late and dirty. It woulda been a red if the ref had ended up dealing with it. Dad  yells at player and takes two steps onto pitch as that's where his son was lying. Ref tells him to get off his pitch to which he was told to F off. Game immediately called off by ref with 20 mins to go.

Coastal told result stands and that the ref had been spat on at previous Waimak tournament and he wasn't going to put up with anything.

Our supporter was out of order I completely agree, but as you can see there was a little behind it.

Talked to one of the players at game who knows both players well, was just an upset father seeing his 16yr old son taken out late, a few heated words said, nothing more, man who did it is such a nice bloke alot older than 16, just an unfortunate chain of events
