Is that a question or a statement?

Congrats on the title. I knew you could do it, just as I know Coastal could have too. That's football

More head in hands moments for the Cash Tech clan. I'm not sure what's more embarrassing - a parent taking to online forums in the early hours or a seemingly tactless manager gloating over winning a competition they should have done comfortably however were pushed to the line by their much younger and inexperienced rivals.

Halswell still hanging in.

Yes a big game for the Hawks in a couple of hours time, need a point or they will become extinct in the MPL for awhile. Their record at Saxton Field gives them some hope:

Wins 4 Draws 6 Loss 8

Also the heavy defeat by Western yesterday now sees Halswell with the better goal difference but with Coastal lost to FC now in Suburbs own hands if they are to finish in the runner-up spot.

Todays game will be the 1300 MPL fixture currently the stats show 542 Home wins, 511 Away wins with 246 draws (55 scoreless draws)

Chubby what do you term 'done comfortably'.

Last season Technical win the title by two points at the moment they hold an eight point gap back to Coastal so depending results today and next Saturday the gap will be between 5 and 10 points.

2 losses and a draw is not overly convincing for a club of whom's manager, players, and fans believe to be untouchable - similar to their views regarding opposing opinions on this forum. Treason he cries. Us more modest clubs are allowed a voice, thank you. I'd allow the one slip up per season for the untouchables but 3 and potentially 4 is frowned upon.

Coastal = Too much premature talk? Clearly having a great year but you need to bottle it and let football do the talking

Tech = Disappointing year. All the current talk tells me it was a huge relief not to get humiliated by Coastal

And therefore the winner is FC

Ferrymead for the last laugh though. Cant see Coastal winning another game this year seeing how they played yesterday. Wow they were shark

And then there were three:

Ferrymead Bays, Nelson Suburbs and Western the only sides from the first MPL season in 2002 to be ever present.

AW82, not sure if this has been asked previously but if Fc2011 finish 4th that must be close to being the best finish after being promoted. Glenn has done a great job with that side.

Hi Reddevil,

I looked this up just the other day.

FC have certainly down well this season.

Both ChCh Technical (2004) and Coastal Spirit (2011) both finished in third place after winning  promotion but technically Ferrymead Bays would hold the record when winning in 2002. This was the first season of the league and Bays did not take part in the former Canterbury League in 2001, but won the old CFA Div 1 to gain entry into the inaugural MPL in 2002.

Out of interest here are the teams in the Canterbury League in 2001 in finishing in order and points.

Halswell 54

Rangers 51

ChCh United 48

Western 43

Nelson Suburbs 36

ChCh City 33

Avon United 28

Marlborough United 24

Nomads 24

Canterbury University 15

New Brighton 11

Mid Canterbury 10

Careful were this is going or some will say Cashmere Technical have now won six of the last eight MPL titles, with Woolston Technical going back to back in 2009 and 10.

True.

It is amazing how many teams have came and gone / merged since the turn of the century, unsure if has been for the better or worst.

Yes when Shamrock merged with Riccarton I can recall someone (jokingly I think) suggested the new name for the club should be Ricrock but they choose Avon United, who later merged with Burnside (formerly Burndale) to become FC Twenty11.

Been at the top level for a long time. I remember when they were in the old Sth League qualifying (1970's).

Very successful with Kev Mulgrew in charge more recently.

Surely with their strength in numbers and the building out their way they will come again.
