I was at the Waimak vs Cash Tech game and to be fair without Longo this would have been a much closer game. She scored 4 of the 5 first half goals and  was the creator of many more in the second half. Any team that plays Cash Tech with Longo in the side will be up against it so don't write Waimak off completely. Having said that the team was pretty solid and created a wonderful team goal mid way thru the 2nd half that didn't invove Longo.

The Waimak side were arguably the youngest WPL side ever fielded and all but 2 were backing up from the ACFC under 17 tournament from the weekend. They showed glimpses of ability so will be interesting to see how they cope against the also rans.

Have seen a tweet referring to Cash Tech as the steelers apparently from CS. Seems to be a bit of pot kettle black here. Where were most promising players from other clubs told they had to play to progress in the Turnbull era? And I hear that's still happening.

On appositive note I take my hat off to Keith Braithwaite who made point of congratulating the Waimak girls on their effort. Much respect Keith.

Gaffa you've got a couple of things wrong here, apart from the fact Annalie is a class player that any club would love to have.

No promising player was ever told they had to play at CS. and Annalie Longo is hardly classed as a "promising player" so I don't see the connection here? Entirely different situation.

The Tweet came from a CS supporter, not the club. Like them I am disappointed she decided to walk away from the club but that's life. She will have her reasons so good luck to her.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

Coastal also never built a side for WPL from siphoning off the Rep and FTC programs.

Depend on the prism through which you view an issue. Current Coastal WPL squad has 7 x U17 players who were not playing for Coastal at U12 level I think (all FTC players by the way): Lake and Herman-Watt from Waimak: Bray and Nicholson from FC20: Clarke and Falco from Cashmere: Taylor from Parklands. Until recently neither Parklands nor Waimak offered WPL teams.

Did these players (parents) decide that Coastal's innovative in-house academy, commitment to Kanga Cup and other tournaments, pathway through to WPL and real belief and support from Board level to First Kicks for female football was the best environment in which to develop? Probably.

Did the players/parents look at their own club's commitment and opportunity to develop female players in comparison? Likely.

Were they enticed to Coastal through rep and FTC prorammes? Who knows; players talk to each other about what their club is doing or not doing.

The recent record of Coastal has been excellent and clearly the benchmark. If clubs want to hold onto their players it's up to them to step up to the benchmark, is it not, Gaffa and Foal?

No surprises really foal: University are a mere shadow of the team from the past two seasons. Player exodus has hit them hard and they look like " cellar dwellers " to me...

Where was the migration to? Would never have picked us winning 6-1

Yer this season is already a two horse race and it's only a week old. And I promised myself I was going to watch more WPL this year too. Boo.

Uni' step best players have left. Aimee Phillips to the Ferns and Auckland, and Maoate-Cox to FC2011. Pascoe was good tonight however it was a bit of a romp in the end.

Must be one of the youngest teams Coastal have fielded for a few years. Haven't seen a team and subs list but i think 7 players born 1999/2000 took the field tonight.

it was scary to watch how clinical they were in only there second game of the season . its going to take some individual brilliance (when are the olympics?) or a special team effort to take the title off coastal . players may arrive from other clubs, but coastal are ones that take them so smoothly to the next level.

Yes Waimak too. I think Tasman United maybe overall the youngest team in the league, they have a handful of players in their squad that were born in the early 2000's.
