That's precisely what we wanted, of course. But the AFF won't let us, and no-one wants to commute to the Shore for home games. So this is the next best thing.

So why not bring one of your 4 or 5 other Sunday teams up as a Reserve team as well?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

For anyone interested, I've done a status report on the number 1 pitches at every club with a men's team in the NRFL within the boundaries of Auckland Council. Includes photos and brief comments on the current condition of each pitch.

You going to do monthly updates Enzo? Auckland Council should be told.

Monthly might be a bit much for me but I am planning a mid-season update to see how they are coping with the endless rain that will inevitably replace this endless sunshine. :-)

Apply for Council Funding. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Your present dossier should be a clincher. BTW you read the fuss over Oratia's newlaid artificial pitch? Noise complaints from neighbours have restricted its use. No matches on Sundays! Is there hope for this country ever?

Metro played Eastern Suburbs on Sunday, going down narrowly 2-1, not too bad considering Metro's coach was sacked taking several players away aswell.

A question of how many players actually want to play Saturday football. One of the problems with this compromise is that the Conference team, being officially "Unimount" players, can't play for BCFC in the Chatham Cup where we've traditionally punched above our weight.

Birkenhead playing the New Zealand U17s tonight (Wed 20th) ... 8:00pm, North Harbour #4

Good game 4-3 to nz...  U 17s dominated first 15 should have been up.. Then birkenhead were on top for most of the 1 st half went a goal up.. Nz scored staright after the break..... Then Birkenhead changed about 7 .... Lots of good attacking play from both teams....

Think the 17 s were bit fitter in the end ..sure the 17s are going to do very well some outstanding players....

Re Auckland Council edict on Oratia Utd's newly laid artificial pitch: NO PLAY ON SUNDAYS OWING TO NOISE COMPLAINTS FROM NEIGHBOURS :  my mother's reaction: 'Oh dear, does the rubber magnify the sound of the ball?'  Bless.  No Mother, the neighbours hate the SOUND OF YOUTHFUL ENJOYMENT.

Went past Ellerlies ground on Monday night.. Field is nearly finished, looks a great asset, will there be a smaller training pitch on the side of the field?

Not sure if this is the correct place to spam you with this but Northern League Women's Premier club Glenfield Rovers played a charity match for Cure Kids today vs a Football Ferns selection. Great game, finished 4-4. Write-up and photos here:

Greetings all,

Herewith a more detailed wrap-up on the CureKids game:
http://www.ultimatenzsoccer.com/Scoreboard/latest_match_report51.htm

This page will be updated each week with the report from the NPWL game I've attended,
while the links at the top of the page will take you to the round review of that
weekend, and match pix relating to said match report.

You'll also find my Northern League men's review page here:

And a few other pages of interest via the front page:

Sportsweb Soccer is undergoing an overhaul at present, so the above pages are workaround solutions
while that is taking place.

What happened to a.f.f doing the team previews , then again they couldn't be bothered doing the end of season awards either...

Quick to take your money off you or cards etc

Will head down to Melville's opener tomorrow, be interesting to see how they rebuild from the Declan debacle, and then they play Ngarua in the new Waikato derby on Monday, so two Melville games in two four days is in store, hopefully they go alright.

I see chewins is back there.. They should go ok...

Who's players in and out down there with the Waikato teams.?

Anybody got any more ins and outs

I guess I'll find out today but some rumours I've heard are:

Potential mass exodus at Ngaruawahia, or at least many unhappy players due to the new coach they've got in charge, apparently it's South American city up there, new coach can't speak too much English I'm told.

Melville getting in a few imports again, Steve Williams-style, might be some Welsh guys playing for them, obviously the squad will be almost entirely different from last year's.

No word on Wanderers as yet, not even sure if Cossey is still the coach, maybe somebody else here knows.

Some Melville moves: Josh Billman is now skipper, Ally Houston back in goal, Shaun Kipara and Tewi Te Pou are back too, and as you mentioned Chewins, but not for very long. Striker from the UK brought in - Jordan McCarthy - can't find much about him but I guess I'll see how he goes today.

Melville 2 Takapuna 0, goals to Tewi Te Pou (a cracker) and the new English guy, Melville look good, mid-table quality at this point with more players to come including a kid from Tranmere I'm told. Takapuna however look honking, they have only one or two guys who look threatening, Mark Pits hit the post a couple of times, apart from that they have quite a few big bulky guys, definitely more grunt than glamour.

Watched Glenfield v Suburbs.

Glenfield were up 2-0 at halftime thanks to 2 Grant Young goals after coming on after 10mins for Steven Holloway. Pretty typical Youngy goals, just in the right place in the box to finish. Finished 3-0 after Gwyther scored against the run of play, assist to Young.

Glenfield didnt look as flash as they've been talked up to be, especially 2nd half didnt string more than about 3 passes together, alot of long ball. But Suburbs were fairly poor, managed to command majority of possession 2nd half but not much threat up front.

Mayne was the standout player I thought.

yeah i thought Mayne was ok - although it's not hard against Prince and Alex Pratap - that to me looked like Suburbs problem was in the middle of the park.

Big George didn't offer much upfront but Suburbs were tidy wide but struggled to put anything away and when they made changes the guys off the bench for me looked ponderous.

Rovers seemed to play two defensive minded mids with Mayne and Aaron Root and didn't even look to play unless they gave it wide to Daniel Findlay.  Main attacking weapon?  corners and long throws - aim for Jordan Carter and the other big unit - It will be even more of a threat when Danny Parke plays (he was on the bench) and Dods gets on the end of the long throws.

Yeah point taken they attempted better football in the second half but still had nothing in the final third. Was the Rovers GK ever tested?

Suburbs will struggle unless George starts firing.

Three for me, and two for them.

Permalink Permalink

yeah big george was disappointing - first time i have seen him play and honestly wasn't that impressed.

In regards to the keeper being tested - there was only one chance I can think of in the second half but George was flagged offside before a save had to be made.  One long distance one flashed just past the RH upright but yeah not much end product from burbs.

Glenfield played typical Danny Donegan style football - megadirect...

I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything but i have always struggled with the "Big Club" call.  How does one justify being a big club?  amount of players?  amount of titles?  amount of money spent on players?

Facilties . Social teams .juniors and $ spent . Just saying along with bays there th big two on the shore..

ok i will play along - so with Glenfield as the test - Facilities are pretty good, with a quick bit of research i see about 15 senior men's teams, and 1 women's team (sure there are more).  Can't see any info on junior teams.

I don't agree about money spent as a yardstick - because if you were developing your own players through a development pathway you wouldn't need to spend so much money.

So can you confirm how many senior and junior teams the club have so i can get an accurate indication of the yardstick of a big club?
