Thats true i wouldn't have prediicted manurewa and east subs to go up last season..
i guess you find out a bit more after about 5 games..
here papatoetoe have got a good team

True, although at one stage Rewa were top of the table unbeaten, and suburbs looked good for a while a well, but heading into the tail end of the season with Taka and Birkenhead doing well it did seem a stretch to see Rewa and Suburbs going up.

Interesting fact here:  i don't know if all the teams are in the same boat but Ellerslie will have played 8 games by the 28th of April, just over a 3rd of the season in just over a month.  So ask me again at the end of April and i think we will have a much better idea.

I hear Papatoetoe have a couple of decent players, new coach as Paul Hillis has stepped down.  But i hear the new coach (and this is a direct quote) sounds like an extra from the Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells movie.  Always hard to figure out what is gossip and what is fact with these teams, best way is to just play your best every week i guess, no matter who your playing.

MAP v Albany to kick it all off on Friday night. Looking forward to a potential early season relegation indicator here.

May well go to Anderson and put some dollars over the bar for my old club.

Thought I had better get in on this as the season is about to kick off and it looks like it is going to be a great one with a lot of teams looking tough and well prepared!

Buggered if I am ever going to predict anything though!

I think I will wander down to MAP on Friday, love the night games there!

The City boys won't be in the Central squad until after ASB Prem and O-League finishes, if at all...

Interesting that MAP chose to play on a Friday night.
Never won a game when playing on Friday nights last year.

I think perhaps MAP's priority is to maximise bar takings.

Really - are you sure about that?

I am pretty sure i saw them beat Papakura and Fencies last year at Anderson at least, and weren't the majority of their home games on a friday night, seems funny that a team that walked away with the league only drew or lost the majority of their home games?

yeah they looked rusty, but they are young and they are trying to play football instead of lumping the ball, they have a few players who are pretty good, their left back number 15, tall lad - clearly right footed but has some ability. There was a lad in the middle of the park (number 13 i think) that was ok, wanted the ball lot's early in the game but as the game wore on he faded out. Up front they had a guy who looked like a mini Fernando Torres who caused some trouble.

i think they will struggle first round - but second round they will get some points.

Going off to watch Ngarua v Birko today, hoping it won't be too one sided.

Birko 2 Narra 0

Two early goals then took the foot off. Comfortable win though the team looks so strong hard to find any weaknesses even the bench is class.

Chopah what happened at McFetridge? Missing Palmer?

Three for me, and two for them.

lost a couple of key players to bad injuries, one 13 mins in and one 35 mins in - was 1-1 at halftime and we just didn't show up in the second half.

Disappointing to lose the 3 points but losing players is more of a concern at this point.

Not too disappointed by the Narra result - Birko are quality all over the pitch, will be amongst the faves to go up again I'd say.

Lack of creativity will be the problem for Narra this year, only Nathan Holten really created opportunities, but he couldn't finish to save himself, credit to Birko's reserve(?) keeper too, played well. Some of the long-time Narra guys may not quite be up to this level. Chewins still looks pretty classy for a slow 40year old however

Played ressies, won 4-1.

Watched the first team game, Manukau kept it tight and took their chance in the first half but fell away after the break. Shore should have won by more but for some poor finishing and questionable lino calls.

Good result for Warkworth i see.

Three for me, and two for them.

Good win for you then to start the season.

Sounds like Manukau may go ok this season. We've got them away next week, not quite sure what to expect.

Yeah nice to start with 3 points, had a bit of luck along the way but we'll take it. Awarded no pen's all of last season and 1st game this year we've got one already. Squad will be improved this week with couple of guys coming in who had prior commitments so looking better for this weekend.

Thankfully not broken (although the tackle had the force to break his leg), although he does have some signifigent damage to his knee (ligaments) and to his shin (deep bruising) so it's not likely we will see him back in action too soon.  that was 13mins in and we lost another midfielder (not to a bad tackle this time, just fell in a challenge arkwardly) 35 mins in to a suspected shoulder dislocation, but he has come through with just concussion and a AC joint injury.

Just going to say once - the tackle was so bad it beggered belief that it wasn't a red card.  It was after the whistle, studs up, no ball, high on the leg and he went in to injure our player i'm sure of it.

Im guessing the tackle would have been from either . cory.langford, hagan !
Glad its not a break hope he recovers well!
One of the staff that went to narra with Birkenhead said that narra got away with quite a few  2 footers on sat, and the Birko players were told to stay out of trouble and any dumb tackles!!

yep langford, and when your that overweight and you hit a tackle like that it's bound to do some damage.

It's good to hear that the Birko players were able to outplay dirty tactics - also i hear that in the reserves game the Narra guys had 3 players sent off? but still won 2-0, that's a little strange.

Yeah the reserve game got way out of hand. One of the blokes who got sent off started threatening everyone around us and threatened to knife us. Birko ressies got unlucky with poor finishing and getting hit on the counter on a bumpy pitch.

Three for me, and two for them.

right that's always a nice thing to hear when your stuck at the ground for the next couple of hours.

What were the cards all tackle related or was there some good old referee abuse thrown in there as well.
