She shouldn't be blamed for getting punched in the head. She should be blamed for contributing to a spiteful match played in an unsportsmanlike manner. If the referee heard her say "Do you even have any tits" that is supposed to be an immediate yellow card.
The referee was me and I didnt hear any insults. That quote is what I got told the goalie said to Rona. Gees this is hard work. I'm still wondering if am within a Lisa timeframe of postmatch pre-mediated violence that I can go and twat her for calling me a fkn cnut about twenty times.
Rona has admitted saying that (well actually something very similar) to the paper. Is she going to lay a complaint with the police? I think she should.

What the f**k has Courtney Place got to do with this? Don't remember ever playing there?

Who said anything about no reaction? The point is what is a REASONABLE reaction, but that seems to have flown way over your head.

I'll spell it out for you: People will start fights for a lot less than verbal abuse.

Debating reasonable on this forum?

Lisa should be sanctioned for punching someone. Absolutely. Punching isnt okay, punching is serious. although, I do think people are looking too much into the fact that Rona was knocked out thats totally irrelevant, a punch is a punch, and even if she wasnt knocked out, the penalty for one punch should be the same in football-land, even though you would potentially have different legal liability if it could be shown that your intent was to cause grievous bodily harm. It also wouldn't make a difference to me if Lisa had punched Rona square in the face, a punch is a punch is a punch - the fact that she chose to punch Rona in the back of the head indicates no more than cowardliness.

Of course it makes a difference - if you can't see it coming, you can't defend or brace yourself, and the potential for serious injury is much higher. Add in the fact that this didn't happen in the immediate aftermath of the verbal exchange (and I understand it was an actual exchange) but rather after the game was finished gives the punch a cold and calculated side to it that should require an even harsher punishment than if the punch was immediate after something was said.

Add in the history of the Lower Hutt player who has done this before, and the whole CF way of handling this, you end up with a complete disgrace as the end result.

And finally, I thought the Karori player has taken resonsibilty - she admitted saying things, what else is she supposed to do? The point is, whatever she said, the response she received was grossly inappropriate, and I feel some people are too easily glossing over what is a very serious case with potential ramifications for others further down the line.

No one here is arguing that the punch was resonable. That's a ridiculous thing to suggest. I'm simply saying that there are two sides to every story, and both sides need to take responsibility.

Jesus. If you really want to be irrelevant, there's also people who'll slice your throat for having a wrong name or religion. In case you didn't know.

But what we are talking about is about acceptable and reasonable behaviour on the football field. And if people on the football field can't react to stressful situations in a reasonable manner, they don't belong there.el grapadura2011-05-19 14:43:49

Well, this has been an interesting discussion.

I wonder if we can eke this out for another 5 pages with lots of posts that fail to take into account what has been already covered.

I hope this makes more DP headlines:

"Wimmin's Footy Violence and Lewdness.  Psycho keeper asked to flop them out for the opposition."

Asked to comment CF said it couldn't be bothered because it was admiring the foreshore at Oriental Parade up close (although it was very dark).

Threak said: "B*ll*cks.  At least Kosta is coming back to the Nix."

Another goalkeeper (Buffon II) said: "P!ss up a rope f#ckstick."

There was NO comment on the ACFC website.
