Shamrocks 4 Porirua Cryovac 0

Shamrocks opened the scoring in the 33rd minute of the 1st half with a goal to Nathan, thats how the score stayed until half time.
However Porirua were the more dominant team but were kept out by some great saves by Bart.

Craig scored 2 quick goals in the 10th and 14th minute, followed by a 4th with 4 minutes to go

Scoreline does not really show how even the games was, Shamrocks managed to finish their chances. Porirua was either unlucky due to some great keeping or shots were sprayed high and wide.

Both teams as always are easy to ref with no cards. SportZone2011-07-04 06:20:55

Howzit Tony.

Correct me if Im wrong, but Shamrocks have 4 wins 1 draw and 1 loss, but on the form side theres no loss? is that right?

Tuskin Raiders have 5 wins, but in the form side there are only 3 wins. is that right.

Tuskan Raiders 5 - Porirua (3) 0

Played on a ground where the center of the feild was a mud bath.
Many expected this to be a walk over, and it started that way with a goal to Adrian after only 4 minutes. follwed by 3 other goals in the first half to Matt (15th min) Johnny (30th) and Troy (35th) going into the break 4-0 up and looking like they were going to walk over Porirua in the second half.
Porirua seemed to fix up the defence after Matt had come on and held out the Raiders until the 17th minute when Nick scored. They had several more chances in the second half however were held out by some great saves but the replacement keeper.
The Raiders seemed to then lose a little composure  with a possible expected score line not going their way, they decided to moan about the refs calls instead of playing to the whistle.

Nick from the Raiders was issued a Yellow card for a blatant dive inside the box (might pay to wait until there is contact next time)

Other than that the game was played in pretty good spirits.

Porirua club 3  - Porirua Cryovac  1
After having their turn at having a buy last week, Porirua Club started slow against Porirua Cryovac, allowing them to score first with a soft goal which their defence should have taken care of. Graham then equalised after taking on their defence down the line then cutting in on goal and shooting at the keeper who could only deflect the ball into his own goal. Half time came and went at 1-1. In the second half it was all Porirua club and if it wasnt for the Cryovac keeper the score could well have been in the double digits. Graham scored again and then Nathan scored after good build up work by Ray. A quite enjoyable game to watch with both teams playing hard to win.

Porirua 3 Porirua Cryovac 1

Finally some great weather to play football on, and the ground at Kura Park was in reasonably good condition.

Porirua Cryovac started with the wind and opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a goal to Rodney with Porirua leveling the scores in the 25th minute of the first half, the scores stayed this way until halftime.

The second half saw Porirua Cryovac stack their defence and seemed to have 8 defenders and two strikers, while this worked well to limit the damage cause by a dominant Porirua team, it prevent any real chance of them going on to score goals of their own. Porirua had all the ball but either tried to dribble it in or had to shoot from far out because of the numbers in defence. The second half saw two goals to Porirua in the 25th (Greame) and 44th (Nathan) minute of the second half.

Great games by the Cryovac keeper who saved a few 1 on 1 chances, and from Porirua, Baz had a great game in the middle field, appeared to be all over the park.

Porirua 0 Tuskan Raiders 1

Game was played in pretty horrible conditions. Porirua winning the toss and choosing to go into the wind.
The first half was pretty much played in the Porirua half due to the wind however Porirua actually dominated possession without being able to get it down the other end of the feild. The only goal of the games was scored in the first half by Seth from Tuskan Raiders in the 27th minute.
Tuskan Raiders deserved the win with the effort that was put in during the second half into the wind and had numerous chances to add to the scoresheet.

TRENTHAM UTD 2 VS CAMBODIA    3

Game started on time. Not a bad game to ref considering conditions.

Gave a yellow card to Cambodia No.16 for not retreating back 10 after being told to do so several times. He then started to argue the point so was given another yellow card for dissent, which resulted in a red being given.

Goal scorers:

Trentham - 65th Paul, 69th Alex

Cambodia - 53rd Matt, 55th Ron, 90th No.7

Big win today for the Cambodians won 2-0 over Tuskan Raiders, two well taken goals from Cambodia early in the first half from then on Tuskan threw bodys forward in attempt to get goals back but met some resilient defending and a crossbar that was determined to keep things out. Goal scorers were Ron and Williams for Cambodia.

Sunday Blazers 6- NZFS Wildfire 0
(Halftime 3-0)

A motley looking Blazers side turned out on a mottled Happy Valley pitch against the New Zealand Fire Service Wildfire.

Despite the early run of play going the Blazers way the Wildfire defence held strong and they managed to douse the Blazers attacks, most of which were built down the left through Sean and Fraser.  Sean had a golden opportunity to open his account shooting high when confronted with the whole goal to aim for.
Wildfire were content on using the wind to launch long ball forays, but these were easily snuffed out by the towering inferno of Mataio.
Eventually possesion told; Sean O'Brien made amends for his earlier indescretion with a calm left footed finish after 20 minutes, within 5 mintues it was two; Maldo was through 1v1 against the keeper out wide, and he unselfishly squared the ball to a lone Salmon who killed the ball in the box and shot into an empty net. It was 3-0 at the break after a corner was turned home. The second half saw the game dissipate as a spectacle as the Blazers all tried to get on the score sheet- Isn't it funny that the harder you try to score a solo goal the less likely it is?
Widlfire had their best chance from their only corner of the game, but the ball was scrambled off the line by the brave Blaze keeper. Con eventually took matters into his own hands, producing a calm finish, Maldo then made it 5 with an acrobatic diving shot and Con sealed the deal with a penalty after he was sent through with a flick by the leaping Salmon, but was taken out by the keeper.
6-0 - a friendly game but if the Blazers had retained their composure in the 2nd half the score would have taken off like so much tinder dry scrub in the February sun.....

...Ends..

Porirua Cryovac 3 Trentham 1

Finally some decent weather and a solid groud to play on.

Rodney from Porirua opened the scoring not long after kick off. Midway through the first half Don converted a penalty and then followed up with an excellent strike moments later. The score stayed at 3-0 going into half time.

Trentham score early in the second half to make it 3-1 however no further goals were added.

A very close finish to the first round of the Wellington Sunday Football League. With one catch up game to be played tomorrow night at Melrose Park between Marauders and Shamrocks, the outcome will decide the winner of the first round. A win to Shamrocks will mean the top 4 teams level on points with new guys, Cambodia, top on goal difference. Any other result will put Marauders on top. The league then splits into two divisions with the top 6 teams continuing with accumulated points and the bottom 5 starting afresh in the B Division.
The top 7 places qualify for the main draw of the KnockOut Cup and the bottom 4 playoff for the last place.

Still plenty of football to be played. Good luck to all teams.

Last result in tonight with a 2-0 win to Marauders to make them top of the table after round one. Well done to all teams and refs and a very exciting finish to this part of the competition.

The new draw is available on the new website at www.SportZone.org.nz.
Cup Dates will be provided when we have made the final touches to the draw.

You'll also notice some space available for team info if you would like to supply some. Any pics or editorial would be great.

No ref so reffed by Trentham defender Mark who's inerpretation of a foul was highly amusing to those who watch him play week in and week out...
