Mass confusion in the Sunday League this week. Still haven't heard if Tuskan Raiders played Justice League at the Velodrome or not. Trentham United beat Wallaceville 6-0 (Farken!) and Porirua waited for Arakura at Kura St. Better luck next week where we will attempt to complete the round. SportZone2007-07-31 10:31:01

He sure did- a flying dive to stop Blazers captain Coyler scoring in the top left hand corner first half, an instinctive foot slide save to stop me scoring in the second

Brilliant.

Bit of shambles on the organistion though

Rongotai games will be replayed this weekend:
Blazers V Arakura
Shamrocks VS Porirua

Cheers Salmon, it was a pleasure... apart from the two goals.

Suspect we've stuffed Awaikarangi three for the rest of the year.

The games were allocated in the order the teams came out of the hat and written down by Bart (Shamrocks).
In my excitement to publish it I got the last 2 games round the wrong way and Bart pointed that out to me today.

** Justice League have had their final result reversed to a 2-0 defeat to Wallaceville for failing to comply with the instructions of the WSFL and bringing the WSFL into disrepute.

In the beginning, Justice League were having trouble getting a ground at the start of the season and I wasn't too confident of a 2nd Arakura team making a regular appearance so I offered them the use of Sladden Park, which was OK'd by Excel,as well as my nets and corner flags. It was dubious whether I was going to be reimbursed for ground hire as it is going to be billed to Arakura anyway at some point. When my nets weren't available, I found out that JL weren't using Sladden but playing on Petone Memorial on any ground that had nets conveniently left up.
I asked them not to do so as they were only allowed on Sladden.
On Sunday they again played on Memorial # 2 and wrecked it further. On Monday morning I had a justifiably annoyed phone call from Jamie Cross, and also an angry letter from Excel. I'm also expecting a call from Petone as the teams playing told them they were a Petone Team.
This sort of behaviour isn't on. We are trying to restore a bit of integrity to the WSFL from previous years and altercations with Wellington Soccer and this doesn't help, especially if we are looking for grounds to run the Cup games and further more, I get it in the neck as I booked the ground and this will also impact on my good relationship with Excel and my other football activities.
I've also left a message for Duncan, the team organiser and he hasn't returned my call.

Well Tony, thats seems fair from your point of view

Sunday league is a class comp. and needs to be seen as more than a poor relation to Capital Football

Good on you for putting your foot down

I feel for JL becuase they are new, but that was a bit naive. Hopefully the Balzers put paid to their season this Sunday by defeating them in the cup qtrs

Thansk for all your hard work around WSSL this year

Blaze on

Oh yeah, forgot to report on our game;

Blazers dominated Justice League, 1-0 at HT.
Came out in second half and scored to cracking goals, JL keeper had a stunner, kept them in the game.

Jl scored with 5 minutes to go, a consolation goal- well reffed by Rusty from Shamrocks!

I'd report on our game but a combination of unjury and a significant post YFSLP hangover meant I was unable to make it (I suspect I was still too inebriated to drive).

7-2 and off to the Plate final.

I was out injured so in the Backbencher at the time, but back next week to get killed by Porirua (assuming they wailed on Justice League at the weekend).

To know when and where would be a fantastic thing but have you ever tried to get a venue at this time of year.
It's looking like the finals will be at Petone Memorial Park at 12 and 2pm and then the presentations in the Petone AFC Clubrooms for League and Cup Winners, Runners Up and also Best and Fairest team, Player and Ref.
Still awaiting confirmation from Excell and Petone AFC.
And then a 1 day tournament needs a venue as well.
The draw for the Multi Ethnic tournament is available at www.SportZone.org.nz and the WSFL team is starting to come together.

Tuskan Raiders are the new cup holders for 2007 after an extra time , come from behind, win over Arakura at Petone Memorial.
Raiders grabbed an early lead through a 40 meter cracker from Sacha Nathu but the game was soon level after Ali Gonzales was brought down for a penalty slotted by Tony Morrison.
Arakura took the lead from a perfect free kick from Gonzales to be headed home by Miguel Baladares.
Arakura lead 2-1 for most of normal time but Tuskan Raiders equalised with 10 men and 10 minutes to go. Arakura hit straight back with a difficult ball into the Raiders box caused confusion between GK Potti and the defence leaving Gonzales an empty net to score into. With 90 seconds to go Arakura looked to have done enough but just on the stroke of full time they gave away possession for Raiders to grab the equaliser with a header and send the game into extra time.
The first 10 minute half was even with both teams creating chances. The second ten was the same with Arakura's best chance falling to Nigel Boese at the far post but Raiders defended and grabbed the lead soon after from a long through ball.
3 minutes later they had sewn up the game and it was all over with Raiders ahead 5-3.
In the Plate Final Porirua Mens Club were too good for Trentham United winning by 6-0.
The matches were well refereed by Paul Olsthoorn and assisted by Finn.
At the presentations after the match, Shamrocks were awarded Best and Fairest Team, Raymond Taukoro (Razer) from Porirua Mens Club was the Best and Fairest Player and Mataio from Sunday Blazers the Best and Fairest referee.
