Worst game for me. I had had enough when I got hit.
I shouldn't have played on.

Also.. Who are the wests coaches.
After just two meetings I hate them. They talk so much sh*t. And spend a lot of the game making fun of the opposition players.
Someone should also tell them that they should stick away from the topic of size when they have a go at people. Me and another guy may be half the size of some players. But they are 100X the size of any player.

I was stuck out on the right in the second half right along side them.

Interesting, did you tell your coach to have a word with them? It's something that should not be happening from coaches.

I thought the score would have been a bit closer for you guys based on the win we had over them last week and how you guys played against us (Norths) the week before.

I wonder if they changed the team around after the loss to us. They certainly had a goodish midfield when they played us but my boys shut them down after about 10 minutes and the game changed in our favour.

Don't worry about any abuse from the sideline when you play us, it's all I can do to stop my players laughing at me so abusing the opposition is the least of my worries (unless of course I find out who you are then its all on )

Who is that short guy from Wests who coaches a u21 team? He is loud, very loud and can be heard yelling and carrying on at his players and others from 50m away!

Pete Gillespie, hes a great guy actually. He puts a lot of time, effort and money into the junior side of Wests, who are otherwise generally overlooked by the rest of the club. He coaches the Wests U21 A side by the way, not the other guy mentioned a couple of posts up. I dont know who he is...

Pete is a great guy.  No doubt.

But, in saying that, he does have a tendancy to be a bit mental on the sidelines.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

We dont actually have an official coach just player coach. Our coaches from last year would certainly have had a go. Liam Dunbar and Nathan

We missed a lot of opportunities. We had a decent chance and weren't played out of the game by them. No team played better than the other. We are just having trouble in the final third. Something we really need to work on.
Plus one of our guys missed a penalty.

Funny that, Ive seen four pens awarded in about as many games in the U21s, none of which found the back of the net.

Well don't get better in that final third this weekend please

I think after the first few weeks the league is now becoming quite competitive. As you said the difference between the teams is in the final third. From what I have seen all teams are getting into attacking positions but a lot of the time just not putting away chances.

I must admit I had some doubts about the U21 leagues but now think if handled properly by Capital Football it could be a very good pathway for players into the senior ranks. For example if your a good 15 year old you want as much game time as possible so this gives it to you.

If your 17 and out of school & not yet at the right level for your clubs 1st or 2nd team this gives you a year or 2 to build your skills and play in a competitive league (with proper refs a lot of the time) without having to go and play for your clubs 10th team in Capital 15 & get the crap kicked out of you (no disrespect intended to those in that league).

It does however need to be handled properly & taken seriously by Capital Football as well as by the clubs. We are finding that there are a lot of players out there that want to play but for one reason or another aren't so this is a great opportunity for clubs to hold onto those players at 16-21 who might otherwise give up the game.

Yep. Its been a long time coming. Ive always wondered, if rugby have youth grading post secondary school, why dont we? And now that we do, we're having more clubs wanting to join. In 2-3 seasons it will be even stronger than it is now. This will be the bridge between the declining numbers in this age group, which will be a good thing for football. I have no idea what the rest of the country are doing but this will solve a lot of issues for footy if adapted nationwide.

Absolutely bang on, it also gives the Senior coaches at clubs an opportunity to look at the U21 players coming up through the ranks and either bring them into the squad if they are good enough (and mature enough fir senior football). There are some very good players in the 2 leagues who for one reason or another don't play senior football and this could be the link.

With the U21 teams at my club I get a couple of players a week go and train with the 1st team to give them exposure to the Senior environment & show them what they need to do to get on in senior football.

In the long run if clubs want to hold onto players at that 16-21 age group there has to be somewhere for the non elite players to go and an overall player development strategy from the clubs. Its not rocket science its common sense

Good on Capital Football for starting the league & good on those clubs that are involved. I know that there has been a lot of great work done in the background from people my club (Norths) & at the other clubs to grow the league, with luck their efforts produce results i.e. holding on to players & players that have developed & are ready for Senior football.

The most important thing now is for my team to beat Stefan & his Wharfies this weekend

We will have ya.
Just hope that it doesn't decend into sh*t.

One of the rovers players said that there were a few yellows and a few of their team are injured after it.
The serious focus is that big guy who plays in defense. I can't stand dirty play and I know he will try it.

Stefan don't worry about dirty play I have made it clear to my guys that any repeat of the first time we played you then they will be straight off for the rest of the game & possibly the next game as well.

The injuries to the Rovers players weren't due to any dirty play though.

Looking forward to Sunday.

A league is only as good as players in it want to to be. U21 league is no different. If the youth players want to make the U21 League to be the most preferred league where age-group players can play against their peers with skill and without fear, then there is no reason why U21 can't be the cradle for development of our future football stars where national selectors want to focus on. However, if U21 league harbours low quality gladiators, then it will bring disrepute and demise to this league.

I think that it has potential to become a very good league. I would like to see it develop a bit more, but not to the point where the club puts their skilled young players into just to win games.
Even an U21 national or north island comp would be very cool.

You're right Stefan it could become a good league if handled correctly and provide that  springboard to Senior football. A pre season tournament would be good I think.

We shall see you guys Sunday at Wilton for what I am sure will be the glamour game of the weekend

It will be a match of epic proportions with coaching from the top draw, the like of which has  never been seen before (thank goodness)
I have even had a haircut in honour of the importance of match (which if you have seen how little I had before is remarkable in itself).

Come over and make yourself known before the match so I know who apart from my players to shout at from the sideline

I'm not sure what happens once Stopout come in next week i.e. whether the points go back to 0. it would seem to make sense, I will try and find out for Sunday and let everyone know.

I have been informed of a change of venue for the Wharfies v Norths U21 game we are now playing on the new artificial turf behind the Show buildings in Newtown at 11.

It will be the 1st game on the new pitch (told you the game would be important )

Has to be better than Wilton, it will be interesting to see how it plays.

I have been told to let the players know that slide tackles may be a bit painful even on the new generation of turf, although I'm sure everybody will learn soon enough.

May pay to get the goalkeepers to wear trackies as well.

Ok I just read the other thread 5th then but it was the 1st game chosen to be played on the turf before they transfered the others so Norths and Wharfies U21s will claim it

Nope.

Good game today Teza.
Here is my view. We played well and kept most of the position, but you played the lines well (Mainly down my side, Ugh) and were able to get those passes through the defense when we weren't holding the offside line. Plus our midfield was a tad slow at getting back, And im not the slimmest or quickest of players.
I was sure that we were looking at a win when we went up 3-0. Just unfortunate that we can't ever get defenders to play defense or sort it out.

Pitch was great and playing with proper refs and linemen was a lot better.
Wish we got them every week. And that pitch every week.

If I get put in defense again because we are just short, f**k em. Stefan2010-05-09 16:54:14

Two ambulances needed at the West vs. Nth Wgtn game at Endeavour today... or was it the same ambulance twice? The score was 2-0 to Nth Wgtn when I left with a little while to go. A pretty average game, didnt have a lot going for it which is why I didnt stick around.
