The Tournament team was a bit dubious as i only think maybe 2 players from the 2 teams in the final were selected..

I think they should do a tournament team for Satellite and one for the Main draw.

Congrads to Petone.  Dominated the 2nd half of the final.  I think tech ran out of puff following their semi final against Central.

I didnt think there were any from the 2 finalist.  Agreed there should be seperate teams from Satellite and Main draw and also a seperate golden boot.

Also Koda (is that how is name is spelt?) from Wairarapa was awarded player of the Tournment and he was only in the Satellite. There was a lot of talk about that at the prize giving.

A dog with a bone :)

I think they should re-think that for future tournaments.. because being player of the tournament from satellite is a totally different level than the main draw even though some teams from satellite may think they should have a spot in the Main draw.

Congratz petone anyways. Great 3rd goal they just opened play right up in the 2nd half was good too see.

Conratulations to Petone on a splendid tournament.
They played some fantastic football in the final and were worthy winners this year.

A superb acrobatic celebration from Jono Blair which scored 9.9 with the judges!!!
A superb goal from Richie 'Greyhound' McLay...rifled it in!!!

Great stuff and a joy to watch.

Wouldn't it be great if the 2 winners played off as a Phoenix curtain raiser for the national title?

was it Woolston Tech's 2nd team that played down south?

Yes it was, mixture of their 15's and those that didin't make the team to Napier. Mind you think they would have struggled to make the final here anyway, top 4 sides were all fairly classy outfits. Nelson had probably the youngest side of the 4.

fair enuf ronaldoknow, not trying to cut down the SI tourny, but capping it at 10 teams and 16 players, with most teams from chch makes it a bit hard doesnt it? and when a clubs 2nd team is playing in it cause their1st team is at the Elastoplast U19 Youth Championship (which from my understanding is generally deemed to be the National Champs- correct me if i'm wrong though.) doesn't it kind of take away from the tournament??? But well done on organising a tournament for the SI teams that may have stuggled to get to napier b/c of costs etc etc

howd u manage that bobboltontawa2?

Funny that Petone (who won the tournament, and in style ) got none in the Tournament team and Napier (who were knocked out in the Quarterfinals) got about 5.

Do I detect a bit of tunnel vision?

That is quite weird i've never been to/taken part in a tournament where no one from either teams who have made the final didnt make the tournament team.. I think that they chose the Tournament Team On MVP? maybe the strikers came from the Satellite draw or something like that and got more MVP in each game..not too sure though but thought that was weird. Also how does a Wairarapa player get player of tournament? thats where i believe they should have to seperate player of the tournaments??

you have taken that quote out of the context of the rest of the post - we were saying who was going to make the quarters and i was being negative and someone said and tawa will - and i said i dont support tawa - i think mirmar will be the only wellington tawa team to make it - maybe petone. how right i was minus lower hutt.

Anyway, the definition of the tournament team seems to differ every year - one time, they picked a player from each club playing so who knows what it is this year - all the boys who played well in blue boots etc (especially if the comments in this thread are correct that no Petone players are in the team - must be a misprint for sure). chareimos2008-10-28 15:55:34

Didn't get to Napier this year, first 1 i've missed in the last 7 years, Did the tornament team play a game against anyone, in the past players have missed being named in the tournament team because they have had the final to play!

no tourny team didnt play - they havnt for the last 5 or so years.

the tournament team is picked from saturday and sunday games only - so no semis and finals - so they dont know whos going to go on and win it - obviously they didnt see it in petone or any of their players that they were good enough to win it.
But in previous years you would usually find a player from each the the quarter finalist in there,

Just makes it that much more sweeter for petone -  least they did it as a team not as a bunch of individuals who are rated higher than their peers.

Petone winning is great result for a club that promotes players from within and doesn't appear to sign players from other clubs, be interesting to see how many of the players other than the guest players have ever played for another club. Just shows there is still club loyalty, just reward for all the Petone members who work hard for the whole club. Well done!

So you do support Tawa then?

[QUOTE=bobboltontawa2]i dont support tawa at all - i do su[pport the under 19's cause though - do you agree with olympic playing over age players pavlos? id rather they play 4 15 year olds and get spanked 15-0 than play 4 20 year olds and keep the score to 2-0.(infact that little guy has been around for years he would nearly be hitting 30 wouldn't he?)

yes tang is a awful referee - shocking infact. and yes i belive his son is in the team - so who knows how that appointment got made.

the referees werent bad? did u see the satellite final mate? apparently the 5th official or who ever was in charge of the refs for the day said the decision to award that goal in a final was shocking. the female linesman was no where near in a good enough position to make a decision about whether the ball crossed the line or not. the fact that it decided a final makes it 10 times worse.

and i no the majority of the satellite teams were average to say the least. but this year there were atleast 2 or 3 teams (including fencibles and birkenhead - the two finalists, and hamilton wanderers) who would of been atleast competitive if not challengers for playoff spots in the main draw.

once again re-read what i was repling that to - it is stating that i was being biased to tawa.

You joking, theres no way Fencibles or Birkenhead would have been challengers for playoff spots. The quality of their play was way below the finalists in the main draw.

who said anything about the quality of play of fencibles and birkenhead being same as the finalists in main draw?

fencibles for example had beaten papatoetoe (who were quarter finalists) in warm up match quite convincingly and that was with out a couple of key players.

get your welly glasses off for a sec please. im not suggesting they would of been contenders for main draw title just saying they would of been more then competitive especially since they would have been able to attract better guest players had they been in main draw.

and i must say that petone in particular were quite outstanding in the final

Ooooh yeah Petone FC are the club to support!! They have some sensational young players coming through like McLlay, Pickering, and Luke. That Rich McLay is a deadset whizz kid and is faster than Usain Bolt.

No one named in the tournament team is very suspect. Surely Petone had showed some form and quality on saturday and Sunday? Who cares they have the trophy!

Well done boys!

I didnt see Fencibles, but Hamilton and Birkenhead were good sides. Hamilton striker (no 10) was class, not sure if he made the tournie team.

Birkenhead could be one to look out for next yr - a young team who have been together for a long time.
