dont thing so. There were a lot of foreign names. The name in the programme was Andrew Geddes I think- but when I spoke to his dad who was one of the managers - I dont think he said that name. Was still only 16. Pulled off a behind the heel cross against us.

Even though i wasn't there i am still very proud of Birkenhead's win in the satelitte tourney to gain promotion through to the main draw for the first time ever in the clubs history. I was gutted to have missed the tournament through injury this year but i will do my utmost to be there next year for what will be the last possible tournament i'm eligible for.

So well done to the lads who have done the club proud and i already can't wait for next year.

Three for me, and two for them.

Petone winning is great result for a club that promotes players from within and doesn't appear to sign players from other clubs, be interesting to see how many of the players other than the guest players have ever played for another club. Just shows there is still club loyalty, just reward for all the Petone members who work hard for the whole club. Well done!

I guess the good thing about this team is that most of these lads I believe have come through the ranks together and with anything, the more you play together as a team the better you become - probably one of the most underated players in the tourney as they do have some lads with ability for sure - I tip my hat off to them as well.    I suspect alot of these lads will be back again next year as well so they could be back to back winners for sure!chareimos2008-10-29 00:20:19

Sadly a number of the core players are too old for next year. While there is some good talent coming through, their competitiveness will be a mystery for some time

How many, I thought Tihou and Pickers might be too old but the likes of Leighton, Jono and Richie will still be there?

Tihou, Pickers, Guy Turner, Ethan Attewell, Adam Faulkner and perhaps Logan Luke (not sure on that)

I think the greeks came third last so they remain in the main draw. From memory it is Upper Hutt and Eastern Suburbs who will drop down

the referees werent bad? did u see the satellite final mate? apparently the 5th official or who ever was in charge of the refs for the day said the decision to award that goal in a final was shocking. the female linesman was no where near in a good enough position to make a decision about whether the ball crossed the line or not. the fact that it decided a final makes it 10 times worse.

and i no the majority of the satellite teams were average to say the least. but this year there were atleast 2 or 3 teams (including fencibles and birkenhead - the two finalists, and hamilton wanderers) who would of been atleast competitive if not challengers for playoff spots in the main draw.

You joking, theres no way Fencibles or Birkenhead would have been challengers for playoff spots. The quality of their play was way below the finalists in the main draw.

who said anything about the quality of play of fencibles and birkenhead being same as the finalists in main draw?

You did.

you taking the piss?  i said atleast competitive (they certainly would of done better then the likes of eastern suburbs) if not challengers for playoff spots (as in challengers for top two spots in their respective groups to make quarters).

Sorry to say this footballer, but I think you are kidding yourself a bit, sure they might have done well in Satellite, but there are a lot of very good teams in group play. The likes of Olympic coming 2nd last in their group when they came 2nd at UHutt tournament, Wgtn Utd coming 3rd in UHutt but not getting out of their group, there are a lot of very good teams in the main draw. So challenging for playoff spots is something that I think Birkenhead and Fencibles might look to in the future, but this year I don't think they were quite good enough.

Eager seemed to be controlling the midfield pretty well when I saw him - thought he might feature in a tournie team.

THe selectors probably watched a different Miramar game Feverish. I think there were only two selectors, so if they watched every team play including the satelite they wouldn't have seen a whole game from any team. In that case they are likely to have identified players who were clearly better than their teammates, favoring the satelite players where the standard is less consistant. They obviously selected some good players though. It does seem ironic that only one player from the semifinalists was named - Johnny Raj from Central. You would normally expect Central to have two or three players in any tournament team

I haven't seen a list either. Only remember a few names from ther prizegiving. Another name I seem to remember is Olympics guest player, not Troy, but the striker - was it Aaron Kidd??

mystery list

they did have the opposition choice for best player to go by too. I'm guessing Gould or Emblen might have been selectors

I guess that question could be asked not just of Wests (not sure why you mentioned just Wests) but other clubs as well who used guest players (nationally and internationally)....it all adds to the flavor of an exciting tournament of whos playing for which club etc etc....

Yeah can't imagine why someone who is in the NZ u20 training squad would make an under 19 tournament team
