Quite a smart move getting free to air TV for the new  AusChampionship. If the financials work out this new comp could be very succesful. When you spend time reading Oz football sites you quickly realise there is a lot of Oz football fans who are strongly anti the A League.
By tapping into the traditional Oz football community who passionately support the old clubs football Australia could be on to a winner.

It's going to be embarrassing if some of these old State League outfits get bigger crowds than their same city A-League rivals.

6855 spectators saw South Melbourne beat Sydney Olympic in a thrilling 3-2 match. Another 6500 watched the YT stream.
Western AL club would be happy with those figures.  This new comp is going to work IMO. The A League has now got a bit of serious competition. Time to rethink the plastic multi club per city franchise model

Is this Plastic Club term that gets thrown out as true as some like to think it is. There are a number of clubs who have been around for 20 years or close to it.
For me to use the term Plastic Clubs is very derogatory to those clubs who have been around that long some with fans who have been there since their clubs foundation. Dont think its a fair term to use when some of those clubs have done as much sometimes more to promote and develop the game of Football as clubs that have been around for much longer.

I framed my plastic club comment in the context of multiple club franchises in the same city. Melbourne fans hated having M Heart, then M City then Western thrust on them. The term plastic franchises is what the fans are calling these clubs. They dont call Victory a plastic club. The A League has to do better in engaging local fans. Its got to be more than just creating another franchise and then tell people to go and support them. Football culture does not work like that.

Okay fair comment i just get frustrated at times that because you may support the Phoenix you are deemed in some peoples eyes to be a leeser football supporter than those that support " mainstream" clubs.

How much are these guys on? They’re playing a bunch of football and some are class players.

We seeing jobs with the owners company or what? 15 ‘coaches’ at the club?

Don't think I'll be the only one looking to see crowd numbers for these - especially Lakeside ( cap 12000 ).

I’m in Sydney on the 29th (over to see the Ferns), but wishing it was Melbourne now because I’d absolutely go watch the Bergers.

Olympic Village is Heidelberg United's home ground.
It was built as a training venue for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Hence the name.

Hosted it's fair share of high profile football games in 2025, with Heidelberg's long run in the Australia Cup.

I am certain they've always played there  - I followed the NSL avidly since early 80s and Heidelberg was one of the strong teams even then.  I may be wrong but IIRC I  think their goalie then was Jeff Olver, national team goalkeeper.
