A-League All Stars: Part Deux

I suppose one factor I didn’t consider with Newcastle is the possibility of a mild player revolt considering they get very little time off between seasons.

Though ironically pro players usually do short intense training and have a lot of down time which is a difficulty for mental focus…

I felt totally sorry for the Newcastle defenders, especially the central ones and the keeper. They obviously were having to play a certain style, and couldn't change it. They were often totally isolated from their midfield by our press and even their outside backs seemed to disappear out of sight at times. 90 minutes of everyone watching them get smashed, again and again. Right through to added time.

The women's match was definitely the better of the two to watch.

I'm never too into All Stars matches but generally will give them a watch due to a mild interest in seeing how the Phoenix players do etc, but the Mens match was really a complete waste of time to watch due to the complete lack of competiveness from Newcastle.

Yeah I get that they were never going to play their full first team, but you would expect a couple of first teamers to get a few minutes, just to justify the appearance fee for the club.

Also I feel a bit bad for the Mens All Stars players, I reckon a bunch of them would've seen this as a chance to show what they can do to some overseas scouts, but really I don't think scouts would get a sense of anyone's level from this game

The side that newcastle sent out looked a level (or two at times) below NPL sides that we've played in the aus cup.
Not a great advertisement for the game from anyone's perspective

There will be a lot of time off this summer for those not playing at the Euros or the Olympics.

Congrats Vlok. Could she stand out and catch the eye of a WSL club?

And well deserved too. After her performance last season, omitting her would’ve called for a loud round of “same old Aussies…”

Third. First was Tameka Yallop.

So Kiwi connections to all 3 named so far.

She turns 18 in September, so here for at least half a season more.

Well, if any foreign move could happen it would help the Phoenix to get money but hopefully enough to be worth it. More than what Macey Fraser got the club I hope.

You'd still hope Vlok commands a higher fee than Macey did though, given she's younger and appears to have a higher ceiling.

Agree and i would fully expect us to get higher hopefully, more commenting on the insinuation we hadnt done well with Maceys transfer. Or did i read that wrong.

Maybe they can. Pia has more cut through towards the goal box, plays more aggressively past defenders than Macey, so it is possible.

So 4 Kiwis, the wife of a Kiwi and a Phoenix visa player. Very good NZ representation so far!

It'll be on TVNZ alongside the other Festival of Football matches. I don't believe it's listed there yet as that game is a bit over two weeks away from happening.

Not a great start for All stars, already down 2 nil after 12 mins.  Could be an ugly night

It's a much better game than the one on the weekend. Much higher intensity and makes Chelsea look better than they did on the weekend.

Hadnt taken much interest in the previous game and if im honest never realised the quality of the Chelsea team. They have some friggen awesome players in that squad and have played some nice football at times. Obvious Allstars only just thrown together good to see our girls giving a.good account of themselves.
What we need know is Pia to come on score a couple of worldies and earn us a decent transfer when she turns 18. 😁😉
