A) No. YF t-shirts all the way!

If any city deserves an A-League team it's Nelson. If you can get bigger crowds at a national league game then a Gold Coast game at Skilled Park, I think you're on to something.

I'm just saying it's not a Derby. You don't have to be in England to have a Derby. Milan has derbies, Madrid has derbies, New York has derbies, Rio de Janeiro has derbies...
 
Sky is promoting the Super 15 clashes between the Blues and the Crusaders as a "derby" now too. It's simply not. It's a 'local' clash, sure, but it's not a derby match. That term has a meaning and it's two teams from the same city playing.

The diff city derby's in Oz are referred to by the highway between them (ie: F3 derby between Newcastle n Gosford; the M1 derby between Brissy n Cold Ghost) so we would have the dirt track derby.

Tho by the time there is an Auck HAL team we may even have a proper highway between the two... 2041 perhaps?

I have no problem with the concept of a second side I just have seen no sign at all of someone wanting to put their hand up and lose over a million bucks a year to make it happen.
 
I also say you can't forget the Kingz and Knights.  If you're putting a business case together to lose 1 million dollars a year you would be idiot an not to understand the reasons they failed.  You would also be foolish not to see them as a cautionary tale about the Auckland market and it's willingness to find excuses not to attend matches instead of finding reasons to fall in love with a side.

Well I think things are a lot different now. NZ Football was lifeless back then and nobody really knew any of the players etc etc. It's on a roll now and I'd just like us to strike while the iron is hot, so to speak.

I even go as far as saying we need 3 A-League sides (one from Canterbury) in the future.

But your right we haven't seen anyone put their hand up yet. If only FFA didnt get everything. Sigh

3, or even 2, NZ A-League sides would only make sense in an A-League of about 20-24, i.e. like a full-sized pro league from Europe. Which brings up the whole question of whether the current A-League model (i.e. "get local millionaires with more money than sense to fund sides") is sustainable.

The FFA only get everything out of the finals series.  The rest of the season is all the clubs.
 
The Kingz started on the back of an impressive Confeds Cup campaign and the U-17 World Cup.  It was hardly a period when the game was in decline.  They even had big crowds for Under-20 vs Aus and Olympic - vs South Africa - qualifiers at NHS in those first years.

Most pro leagues in Europe have 18 or less teams. In fact the standard league size is 16 i believe, EG would know for sure though.

Different things (apple/orange). 
 
WC: 4-yearly event with the whole country behind one team = nice feel-good but only for a month or so.
 
More NZ-teams in a professional league: EVERY season there will be some cracker rivalries - chance to have opposing fans indulge in a bit of banter (maybe even flares!).  Players too will be up for these big games.
 
I prefer the latter

Because Eden park is suddenly going to stop being a monolith in the middle of a suburban neighbourhood with no pubs nearby and no atmosphere and NHS will stop being so far away that Aucklanders keep moaning about crossing the bridge.

Yes i know and understand that but perhaps the impact of swarms of visitors from around the world for a World Cup will provoke the 'Super City' council into action and finally sort out proper transport to and from these stadiums.

The shuttle buses for the Honduras game weren't all that bad i didn't think, so we're getting there.
