Bonnie Jansen has put out an article with who she believes is on the shortlist for Auckland FC's inaugural Women's team Head Coach. Announcement will be in early 2025 apparently.

The names on the list are:
Jeff Hopkins
Alex Epakis
Katie Duncan
Alana Gunn
Catherine Cannuli

Katie?!? She was coaching me a few years ago! Talk about going up in the world

It's an opinion obviously but I don't think Katie is ready - also I don't know what license she has - you have to have Pro Diploma, might get away with a dispensation if you have an A.

Looking into licenses and the criteria for the league should have been one of the main parts of the research for this article I would have thought.
How can you form an opinion if she is ready or not if you dont know what licence she has, have you ever seen her training sessions?

I could go into a bit of detail here but someone who has only 3 seasons as a NRFL Premier Head coach (2 of those as a player coach with OS) doesn't scream at me someone who is ready to take a gigantic step up to being a pro team head coach.

Cant see Foley going with anyone other than a heavy weight for the womens coach. Anna Mowbry said they want to make a real statement with the AFC womens team

Let's see how AFC bounce back after the heavy loss last weekend.
No Dan Hall; wondering how Tommy Smith will do as a CB from the kickoff.

2:1, shot by Brimmer - but all heavy lifting done by Gillion.

AFC all over them. " Enormous dominance" says commentator. So Brimmer makes it 2 - 1 from edge of pen area.

The contrast between the Nix vs Jets game and this one, is that Auckland clearly plays a very direct positive football as opposed to the tentative performance that the Nix produced today.

3:1, and Auckland seem to have put the ghost of their defeat to Western United behind them.

I can’t be the only one who thinks we just aren’t exactly capable enough to play that way?
just feel we don’t have the fitness

Do not know if it is the fitness, there is something about the strategy of keeping possession that turns the performance into a fear of losing the ball, resulting of course in losing the ball through lack of positive movement.

Tommy Smith putting in a decent shift.
To be honest I did not expect him to do Dan Hall's job half as well, but there you go. Looks like lack of speed is not cramping his style tonight.

If any coach is getting picked up from the National League, surely it is Ben Bate. Yes Auckland United have put the resource into the team but he clearly knows how to get the best out of a squad.

Auckland have played 3 games in Australia and have collected 7 points, and unlucky not to get 9 in the city game.. I think this might end the whole “let’s see how they deal in Australia” narrative

Mariners are nowhere near the team they were last season, now on a three game winless streak and we beat them 3-0 at the same venue back in November.

Still plenty of big tests to come for Auckland this season.

Whatever you do, dont give them any credit for being a good attacking side, great battling midfielders, and strong on defence, and getting a result in Aus

When did Smith last play a full match at club level? a couple of years ago I’d guess. Maybe this injury to Hall is a blessing in disguise, giving Smith the opportunity to put some real pressure on Pijnaker to play well and earn his spot at club and country.

While I’ve missed the games today due to work, it sounds like a number of kiwis in both teams played well.

Not denying any of that, but losing 4-0 last weekend at home to a team they were big favourites to beat shows that on top of the other top teams/tough venues they still have to play and travel to, there could be more underdog teams who could go and win in Auckland or back at home in Australia, in the matches to come for the rest of the season.

I had hoped the Mariners could come away with something, but Auckland came into this game as favourites to win despite coming off a thumping, because of how poor the Mariners have been so far this season, and the fact their rivals, us, beat them just as convincingly at the same venue.

Think we should be able to unite the tribes over McCalmont.

Lined up Nagasawa with intent against us, went through Gillion against you and much else besides. Guy is a bellend and a symbol of CC’s issues this season.

They’ll fancy themselves at home against a Machach-less Victory on NYD.

Win that and they really will start having serious designs on the minor premiership.

Three for me, and two for them.

Massive match. Victory I have as the favourites for the minor. Adelaide may be in the mix but no team below them I think has a chance,

I thought the Sydney FC game against Victory was a useful indication the Smurfs are in the mix; some may argue that the early red card hampered Victory.

It will be interesting to see what sort if crowd AFC pull in tomorrow. No trains in Auckland for the whole of January. Buses running on Sunday timetable. I might give this game a miss. Dont fancy being stranded in Penrose waiting for non existent public transport

So Tommy Smith is still a decent A league level CB with a screening midfield and someone else to do recovery running?

He'll be on a high after the Ipswich result. I expect he'll get a hat trick.
