I was actually surprised that the game was not stopped early (65-70 minute) with the proviso to resume once the worst of the downpour was over and the ground checked by the officials.
He said "we"......he said "we". We have caught him out. Burn him at the stake. While we are at it lets introduce a "Committe of Proper Thoughts" That way we eliminate all those who dont think like us. I dont always agree with AP but I think hes entitled to his opinions. I know lots of people dont like calling out the Nix management but just look at where we are now. Crowds of around 3000. Only three wins in last 18 home games. People have the right to question this, AP included
good grief - context is the key - the "we" used by NP was to describe all of the dirt track weekend warrior footballers not the "we" used by fans of a team they feel a part of.
I bet we’ve all played in worse conditions than that.
1977, played at Strand Park. Upper Hutt College V St Bernards. Started off sunny as. I was in goal for UHC. First half, I watched the Southerly Front coming up through the Wellington Heads. Second half kicks off with my back to it, then the Cold Southerly and Hail hit about ten minutes in. Game abandoned after a further 5 mins when it got even worse. The ground was white with hail.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!
Did UHC play in black and white? I seem to remember playing them at basketball a bit before then, I might be thinking of Heretaunga because they were definitely strong at basketball in those days.LG

Played the same design as Hibernian in Scotland but Gold/Yellow Sleeves/Collar and Blue main body of the top. I've actually kept my two tops - One long Sleeve and one Short Sleeve after all these years.

Other side of the River along with Petone Memorial Park. Strand Park partly backs on to Moera.

I'll keep my comments here as to not stir the pot in the other thread:
Cosgrove's villain arc is complete. All morale victory of him being a cheater was thrown away 30 seconds in, when James picked him up and threw him to the ground. Have skimmed through the replay and noticed that was missed by TV cameras. Both derbies Nix have tried to stir him up and both derbies have been his best games.
Penalties were correct, especially the first one was stone cold. It was clear as day Cosgrove was going to choke his, disappointing that Brimmer or Locky didn't want to step up.
Locky is a baller. Verstrate is a baller.
Corica needs to find a way to start May, Locky, Rogerson, Verstrate, Brimmer, and Gallegos.
The ambition of both clubs echoes through to the players, and the fans. It's telling that Phoenix management will watch today, and absolutely nothing will change. Frustrating.

Oh go on. Have a little gloat.
Fark this one hurt.
Port looked good. May is class. Him coming on was unfair.
There was a discussion about this in the EPL. There’s so much grappling. Either it’s all a foul or none. Elliot gets to put two hands from the wrong side on Armiento with still 10 odd minutes available iirc, and nothing is given, because Armiento doesn’t throw himself to the ground. Eh. But we let Cosgrove do it after we’d kept him quiet in the first half and got him a yellow. We let him back in. But soft decisions. But yeh.
Anyway, leaving all that aside Josh saves the second pen too and no one is tracking in. That would have kept it 1-1 right?
Despite being on the wrong side of both the derby games this season, both have been epic and felt fairly meaningful.
And the impact we had on you in the first derby led to your lost games, with players suspended etc.
This one it’s like Corica told his players to go down at the slightest contact and then went and complained to the 4th official about holding at length. The only way you get the last starting line up is surely by dropping Cosgrove right? Don’t think that’s happening.
Auckland 5 Nix 0. They have the wood on us thus far. It hurts but it is a fact. We cannot deny it. 2 good things came out of that game Rufer's screamer of a goal and Josh's 2 penalty saves. Legend status pending for stopping 2 in one game. Ok, Auckland scored from the rebound but he almost stopped that too.
And Cosgrove flattered to deceive, he falls over easier than Neymar. Eze needs to learn some self control and James was in control at the back except for that rugby tackle.

Cosgrove totally played for both pens, that along with the red he won. Against our high line he sits offside and drifts back as any striker would, he then goes looking for contact - unfortunately for us our defenders buy into, ist pen, he was never getting anywhere near the ball. Leave him be and he falls on his ass! Same wit the second! If James doesnt put hands on him, he goes to ground and looks like a Twit! Everytime he gets close to a defender he is looking for contact. Italiano should be telling his guys to leave Cosgrove alone, hands off. Get in front of him when he moves, but keep ya hands off him.

Enjoyed Eze getting angry, because maaaaan, you run all game, never give up and get fouled and some Hicksville ref not only penalizes you but gives you a yellow…some of our players were squashed, but Eze was looking for that 3-2 with 15 to play, with 10 to play…him Rufer and Josh were epic imo…sorry off topic

Agree, he is pretty effective in this respect, he disrupts the defence and forces them into errors/overreacting/fouling, plays on the edge. Nothing wrong with that if he plays for your team, annoying if he is playing against you.theprof

Sorta gutted that AFC's poor form finally got it through Corica's thick skull that Rogerson should start. Yes he just came back from suspension but he was on the bench for the 4 games before that. They'll be better with him in the team.
A bit interesting that Pijnaker is still on the bench.

For Pijnaker, could it be be related to the time it took him to recover from his injury? Like, his minutes are being managed to ensure he does not muck up the recovery?
Great post! To add, Cosgrove is a better player than he showed early season. And cleaner. Still dirty but cleaner. He's also added a convincing flop to his skills list, and it's worked on yesterday's ref, where other refs would have said 'you've got to be stronger'.
Players should keep their hands off opponents, and shirt grabbing should be an automatic yellow IMO. The game would be a lot better for it. But this has to come from FIFA, not from a solitary video assistant ref. At every corner, and in general play, players restrained opponents with their hands, even in a bear hug, and no action from the refs. Same every game. Refereeing has to be consistent.
Re starting XI, Auckland has too many good players to fit them all in, but Randell has missed a lot of clear chances lately and he will be in a scrap with Rogerson to start.20 Legend

Looking at the heat maps, touch location, AFC were much better balanced with Rogerson starting and Brook in the middle.
Re: Pijnaker, I suspect GR will play whilst he is here. No point risking both Hall and Pijnaker, and having one of them get injured or suspended just as GR loan period comes to an end.

Only a matter of time before he gets a red card.
Is it though? Compare his actions throughout the game with Valkanis and crew yesterday. Not much different. He vehemently disagreed with a demonstrably poor decision, as they did.
He didn’t make a dangerous tackle or even an iffy one. He got justifiably pissed off with that yellow. But no more than others in the league and his teammates did the right thing and helped him away.
He is not a dirty or dangerous player.
He’s not a ticking time bomb of Aussie resentment and brutality like Muscat and a fair few others were.
And unlike them and Cosgrove of a week or three ago he doesn’t seem to pursue vendettas with players. He has been justifiably irritated with poor refereeing. The first one I recall was the fudgetard who didn’t stop play for his head clash, waited for the Hefeilberg attack to be snuffed out and the Nix then had a promising counter, so he blew it up. That’s a ref being a prick.

Other than it being a long run of away games, if you were Auckland you would surely be happy to see CCM, WSW and Sydney FC away all in a row.
It's a good opportunity to base themselves in Sydney for at least a chunk of it, stay acclimatised to the warmer conditions and eliminate the need for international flights between matches.
Probably would've been better if Christmas didn't fall in the middle of it though as that may mean they head back to Auckland in between so players can be with family.
It's pretty crap that the a-league can't do a better job of having home/away alternate isn't it.
Know a few people that can't make the Jan 1st game, so their next home game is Jan 24. 7 weeks away!
Melbourne City on the other hand with their next 7 games at home...
Wild H+A scheduling seems to be on another level in general this season for a majority of the teams. Big stretches of 3 or 4 at home and then others with the same stretch, but away from home.
It all just feels like its a bit out of kilter from seasons gone by.
