Suburbs subbed 10 players at about 60 minute mark when it was 2-0. Auckland subbed two around 65 and another two around 70 before I think 3 more around 80 minute so treated it a lot like a proper game with the exception of Howieson, Calver not starting.
There was a bit of intensity that only dissipated near the end. No injuries.
A good night under lights with several local children getting to stay up late.

WeeNix have been having a really poor this season tbf (with a pretty inconsistent line-up), but it is a bit of a worry when it coincides directly with when we're at an opportunity to bring in a bunch of scholarship players. Squires meanwhile have been ok.

Sounds code for "the Roar have made him an offer for a higher chance of ALM playing time, if he can somehow leave AFC on a free". Him being a QLDer.
Seems a promising young 'Kiwi' player, so if whereever he ends up he does get to play in the ALM this season all good. Auckland have already gained Aaron Cartwright, another highly regarded young Kiwi raised in Aussie.

Yes I agree. They could be outclassed anyway though, no matter what version of themselves plays. That Al Ahli Saudi team has 1 Portuguese player worth the entire Auckland A League squad.
Obviously for any sensible football fan in NZ, it would be good for the country and confederation, if they can put on a good performance and not be thrashed.
How much of their OPL squad is still signed on? You'd have to imagine that, with how hard player retention is, they'd struggle to field their OPL squad right now.

The only rort is that Auckland and Wellington are not allowed in the AFC.
Following that ridiculous position, I think it's hilarious Auckland essentially get a cheap opportunity to knockout the Asian champions every year. Hopefully Auckland can pull it off every now and again.

Exactly, if our Ressie's won the OFC league and then half of them ended elsewhere as proven by other comments, meaning we sent our First Team went, nobody here would complain and be backing the team.

Woud was great. Al Ahli certainly became dominant as the game went on, but the best chances of the first half went to Rogerson - one was a lame shot right at the keeper one-on-one from a tight angle, and the other was a brilliant header matched by an even better Mendy save.
Cosgrove absolutely atrocious, yet again, following some poor performances against National League opposition in friendlies. Looked like he’s an amputee learning how to use his prosthetics out there.
Goals don’t equate to talent or impact. Many strikers could have racked up that tally in Auckland’s system last year with a vastly improved all-round impact

Side note, Moreira sounded charming in his post-match presser. Commented on how proud he was of the performance and, verbatim, “my country”, which he’s said he feels already. Very impressive stuff, clear tactical nous in there too.
