I hate their supporters already.

Man, the AFC facebook groups are getting *nasty*. Like, absolutely vicious towards the Nix. Like thinking it looks bad for US that we got 18K in their city. And to top it off they're also yelling about us "not allowing people to sit in their allocated seats". They have no fudgein' clue about active support, they will no doubt sit there and chant "BLACK KNIGHTS *clap* *clap* *clap*" and bring back all the anti-Nix shark we remember from the ACFC Knitting Circle.

Are they wanting to bring effigies of Harold from Neighbours to burn at a game like the early Fever forums wanted to do? Admittedly I wasn't around for the very early Fever forums and it looks like you were, I'm sure there was a lot of cringe if you were to look back at it today.
I just Googled that and that was a suggestion from forum legend Frankie Mac!

That was a joke from Jonesy (Frankie) that obviously goes over your head. Incidentally, him and Jono were at the game yest (topless) and  were two of us half doz originators of the shirts off (hope he doesn’t defenct to akld fc ha)

Maybe. I suspect SoccerWahs would probably appeal to a decent slice of as yet uncommitted Auckland yoof. And not just yoof. I'm kinda reminded of the old days in Bloc 5 when we had Warriors supporters behind us in their presumably freebie boxes getting off on our singing and chanting. To them it was a whole new world, and they sure seemed to like it.

Maybe I'd better start saying it then. Off facebook. A huge banner better, on gameday.  But I'm too shy and uncommitted. Best leave it to the kids.

The only thing decent about Black Knights is that a classic rock group that I like Deep Purple has a great song "Black Knight."

Maybe a few, but it's still quite an expensive trip away for most people. You can't call it a derby when it's a 7 hour drive.

On a couple of occassions, I've left Upper Hutt at 5am, driven up, been to the game and then driven back, arriving at 5am the next morning. I've also spent a couple of trips where I parked up in Huntly or Rotovegas for the night after a game. Road trips are fun. Have been happy to have several fans along for the company, chatting etc.

I loved the fever bus trip to Napier - a personal highlight in my supporting the Nix career. I enjoyed driving to New Plymouth too. If the Ring of Dirt was actually a quality stadium, I'd enjoy driving there. PN is alright, but that stock car track is the sharks.

Highly suspicious, especially in the unreleased kit, but then they outsourced the job to the cheapest bidder who didn't get very far onto the field at all.   The two security guys were quick, they would be the better signings.

Sure, but the statement was games within NZ would sell out which would mean thousands of rival fans making the trip to the other side of the island rather than a couple of bus full.

My squad reckons at the moment according to all the rumours:
IMG_6436.jpeg 469.46 KB
Wellsmore, Supyk, Strong and Lea’i are my own picks based on nothing (although Strong has been mentioned once or twice).

I believe Rojas when he says he hasn’t signed, and idk about JMac.

Pretty confident with the rest.

If Campbell Strong does go to the UK, I think Corban Piper would be a good pick up.

Pretty sad to have to jump off the back of the Nix's recent success and pitch invade to create any notoriety for your club.

I wouldn't be too keen to be in the stands with these guys if I was an Aucklander.

Just read a bit about that pitch invader and jesus bloody christ, talk about a Mickey Mouse club if ever there was one. So much so that the it's not even cringeworthy. Rather it's all just a bit sad really.

Definitely an inside job though. I don't see how it could happen any other way.

What a fudgeing joke. None of us potential Auckland fans asked for these slimy rich Mowbray bastards to weasel themselves in alongside Foley and ruin it for us. If it's true, and they went behind the club's back to do this juvenile shark, they should be ashamed

Well a Nix game at Eden Park yesterday against an Australian team drew 18,000. You only need to get 8,000 more to sell out a derby at Mt Smart, that will include an actual team from Auckland. It's entirely possible I think, especially in the first few novelty seasons. Filling the ROF for a derby might be a bit tougher.

CEO Nick Becker has said he wasn't impressed.

Ali Williams did some dumb shark in his time playing rugby. An infamous very unfunny press conference double act with SBW one time. Caught buying coke outside a Paris night club. Him and Richie McCaw were apparently great mates in the ABs, which always seemed bit strange - the big city Aucks boy & the dour North Otago farm boy.

Williams has made a bit of coin in the Auckland commercial property scene, post rugby.

special one off event though, top teams last ever home game in Auckland with a bit of hype on the new team. Nix don't always get 18k in Auckland, despite the scarcity of their games up there.

odd reporting on the new too, all of them made mention of trying to make contact with the owners Mowbray and/or Williams. No mention of Foley. Seems really odd given I'd expect Mowbray and Williams to be small fry investors compared to the money Foley has put in. I would expect Foley would be incredibly embarrassed to be linked to the whole thing.

I would have thought you would be smart enough to know in all groups there are some bad eggs and not to judge the entire group based on the small percentage of dickheads.

If the facebook group is as bad as you say it is (spoiler it's not) then why don't you hop out and make a stand that it's not acceptable instead of lurking in the shadows and stirring shark

If it was a stunt I don't mind it... it has gained quite a bit of attention and added to the flavour of the potential derby.

MJ shoes were banned by the NBA (didn't meet their criteria) but he played in them anyway with Nike paying the bill. Had they said ok - Air Jordan's wouldn't be a thing... and it all came from a "stunt" idea.

I'm loving the complaints about the APF FB page on here etc- the amount of complaining about the name to now the owners makes a lot of people on here seem petty, which makes the complaints about them, complaining about us even funnier.

Relax people, enjoy the surge in attention and popularity this new team will bring to the game and have fun with it. If we want to grow a derby, meaningfully and in a positive way, it needs to be done with a good sense of humour - not a pointy stick.

Tim, every time you've responded to me on this forum over the last three months it has been very negatively. It seems like I've upset you and you've got this Pavlovian response to yell at me whatever I say, and I don't understand it. (And don't think I don't notice the two people who "liked" you yelling at this forum's designated free target, lol.)

But if you were on the Facebook page, did you or did you not see the thread yelling about how the YF won't let people sit in their allocated seats? Did you not think that was kind of weird?

In any case, I'm there to keep myself informed. It's unlikely I will be involved in AFC active support if the anti-Nix venom is like that (at least, not the OFFICIAL supporters group).

I've seen AFC fans complaining that the Fever are not talking about them enough or giving them enough respect.

I'd say, Phoenix supporters have other things on our mind right now and it's a bit presumptuous to expect respect straight away. When things get a bit more tangible in the pre-season I'd expect the rivalry to start building, but it has to be organic and not plastic.

Which is why the comment about Folley paying for a fan forum is also bad, the club and the fan group have to develop in isolation from each other, otherwise it's just too manufactured.

There's a lot of entitlement going on, Auckland FC fans are welcome to sit in their allocated seats and be quiet the entire game when it's their home game, Phoenix home game you play by the Fever's rules.
