No AFC womens team is a disgrace.
About time a few people with power and money stepped up. Foley and the other AFC owners could make this work if they really wanted to. The talk was the AL couldnt afford the $400,000 extra travel budget. The AFC could loan the AL this money.
It seems to me theres more to this than we know.
The market for a Auckland womens team is huge. This decision is an insult to all football fans and a bad look for AFC IMO.
Last season mostly in the 500-1000 range. From memory we broke 1000 once, and dipped below 500 for the Sunday game immediately after the first away derby.
I’m assuming the club loses a poltice of money on their women’s programme then?

The upper North Island is the strongest region in NZ for women's football and also has the largest population catchment area.
Maybe AFC are giving the Nix a chance to win something before they launch their own team and clean up like the men have!
Hopefully a better result coming in for them than their last semi final game.

Aaahhh, life is tough...
SFC goal down to his indecision. He will cost A FC matches this year.
On the other hand going forward A FC looking like a team with a lot of options and wont be “one dimensional” this year. Lachy Brook a nice pick up. Way too early to tell re Cosgrove.
De Vries looked heavy footed- perhaps down to the training they are doing this part of the year- maybe should do some dancing with the stars and lighten up as Lolley cut him to pieces.
Auckland FC advance to semifinals of Australia Cup with penalty shootout win over Sydney FC
Auckland FC advanced to the semifinals of the Australia Cup with a penalty shootout win over Sydney FC on Saturday night, following a 1-1 stalemate.
Australian teenager Mathias Macallister and English veteran Joe Lolley both missed for the hosts at Jubilee Oval after Joel King had his spot kick saved by Auckland goalkeeper Michael Woud, who had a wobbly tooth removed 45 minutes into a match that lasted more than two hours.
"It was a bit wiggly at halftime, so we just decided to take it out,“ Woud said of his tooth in a post-match interview on the Paramount+ broadcast, a hole visible in the middle of his mouth.
”I'm going to have to go off to the dentist tomorrow and fix it up.“
Also a teaser in the article that the semifinal might come sooner than expected:
Though the semifinals were initially scheduled for the weekend of September 13, it was stated in commentary on Saturday that Auckland’s match against Heidelberg could take place as soon as next weekend.

Was an absolutely horrible pen though, and who knows, maybe Macallister came to a complete stop in one of those stutters which, just like a GK leaving his line, is also not allowed

I thought de Vries was fine until late in the game when he started cramping up badly in extra time, and would have been subbed off if it was not for the need to sub another player at the same time.
Considering the above, the fact he converted his penalty is impressive, especially after May saw his own shot saved.

Well this multi club ownership thing is going to be interesting, since Hibs and Rijeka will be mixing in the same euro pools. Going to be quite the regular occurrence where one misses out.
Tomorrow.

Auckland FC teasing the shirt reveal tomorrow - pretty much matches what I posted it would look like the other week and also seems to confirm what I said that I believed ANZ would be front of shirt sponsor

Fine for Man City and Girona to both be in the Champions League at the same time. Or the two Red Bulls.
Three for me, and two for them.

Nah, the rule has only just come in, hence the chaos. Palace had to drop down a tier, drogheda missed out altogether. Girona won’t be having that problem anytime soon.
average home attendance 5000 and not travelling 6 hours in a plane every second week goes a long way to making something work
My gut feeling is this issue is all down to the A Leagues and the financial mess a number of Aussie sides in both the men's and women's comps are in right now.
I'm sure that if all was rosy over there, the ShiKnights would be getting ready for their inaugural season as I type.
Dick of the week has to go to Danny Hay. Sounds and acts like a little kid.
Hope when Corica moves on that he does not inherit the throne.
Auckland will rise once more

Was gonna say I'm 6 episodes in and there is far too much Danny Hay.
It's not his job to fund the A-League - they need to find a better broadcast deal and get some more sponsors on board to cover these additional travel costs - but before they do that they need to make sure the existing clubs are doing all they can keep paying the athletes while the APL look to move towards fulltime contracts (meaning full time all year) in the women's space.

You don't understand chopah. Everything is Foley's fault according to the majority of this forum.

It's not really about blaming Foley, he and his investors made claims and promises of a women's team following the men's as soon as possible, with a plan of it being the 25/26 being the target. Then they announce that it wont be until 27/28 at the earliest. And now he is purchasing a new club for more money than it would have cost to run the women's team for years - the optics are not great.
Queenslander 3x a year.
NZF in general has already benefited from what he's done at AFC.
People complaining need a dose of reality.
Again, not suggesting anything of the sort - more just pointing out the promises made being broken - personally I don't care either way, as AFC are not my tam so whether they have a women's team or not has no bearing on my life. But, I keep abreast of the league's comings and goings and can see why the women wanting as team in Auckland could feel a little peeved when the see their owner buying another team just after bumping their future team back a few years.
