Foley became a billionaire out of Insurance. Surely one of the most boring, unoffensive ways to get wealthy. Even Karl Marx probably had insurance.

Unless it was US health insurance or they had a policy of first refusing claims, but otherwise fairly much…

As well it shows him coming from a data driven background.

It will be interesting if the proposed "Left-wing ultras" group (along the model of St. Pauli, Celtic or Livorno) gets off the ground alongside a more mainstream active support. I can understand the enthusiasm but it's weird to have self-described commies following Bill Foley's team. Perhaps they should stick to Manukau United
Nahh main one that would have led that lives in Oamaru now and pretty sure he wouldn't give up supporting the Nix!

Amazingly enough, there are certain people of socialist persuasion in the 09

They will probably need to prepare for a Oamaru or Nightcaps retirement move. Kudos to any Aucklander who knows where Nightcaps is.

Was that the English guy that supported Dulwich Hamlet and went to Manakau after being excluded by the ACFC knitting circle for not toeing the party line?

If I retire I'm moving to Millerton. Strange things happen out there.

Anyway, the person you're referring to is balbi on this forum and he's still around occasionally!

I’m sure Chardonnay and Champagne socialists of all kinds of credit cards and long term property holdings in the 09 will be welcome both at the stadiums and the Foley Hospitality Group locations!

To quote Mitchell and Webb:

‘And how do these ‘ironic viewers’ show up in the ratings, compared to regular viewers?

They show up the same, my friend, just the same. ‘

All quiet on the Foley front and we are well into January. A club name would help! All this speculation about the Marxist tendances of potential club ultras is fine, but this club will be playing preseason football in nine months time so maybe they need to get a move on.

They are a lot more down the pathway than Canberra. It’s been said before expect a name announcement March/April

In Buenes Aires right now (well Montevideo as I type). BOCA fans everywhere, so given they play in blue Iike Auckland why not:

BOCA JAFAS.

Flows well. The Juniors also have a big, garbage ground, just like Eden Park too.

Also we’re leading the wins ratio against BOCA. 😉

This must be a particularly brutal time of year to be in Buenos Aires, though I suppose I'd endure just about any weather conditions for another asado especial at La Brigada in San Telmo.

Wellington were granted their A League licence 19th March and the Phoenix moniker was adopted 28th March 2007. They played their first ALM game against the VUC on 26th August 2007, in front of 14,421 souls.

The new club already have a website & other socials.

Forum needs to be started by the fan group who shouldn't be named after the team. Pretty sure Yellow Fever started before Phoenix name was announced under the assumption that the team would play in Wellington yellow and black. Lots of A League fan groups don't have forums and just rely on facebook.

Forum was pre-social media. More likely to be a social media based thing these days?

That Auckland website so far promises to bring us a mix of Sydney FC and the City Football group, with a sprinkling of Vegas, but still has no one from local NZ football attached in any way.

Phoenix had Ricki from day one, iirc. And Terry of course!

Guess their pitch is that’s a good thing?

The Auckland representative gridiron team has been named the Vulcans for close to 40 years, so might be some issues there. From recollection, the Wellington team were the Hurricanes and NZRFU paid them a small amount to take the name when Super rugby started and the rugby Hurricanes were born.

There is an unofficial fan page on Facelessbook. Seems like some fans are making the effort and good on them. Good luck to them too.

I'm as surprised to hear it as you are but Facebook still has more "reach" than any other social media. The "Kids These Days" like TikTok and Instagram but you can't really organise a fan group on either of those.

Well I've already had the pleasure of being banned from one of the Auckland FC facebook groups.

I guess don't tell them their team nicknames are bad, or laugh react to some of the funny things they post.
