Holy sh*t

Fudgeing hell. 😬

He can kiss goodbye to his potential overseas offers from what was it, something like 11 clubs or thereabouts.

Like him as a player, fantastic baller, but he's absolutely dead to me with this news.

If CCM don't stand him down. Puts the integrity of the whole A League in doubt. Not to mention CCM and there fan base.

We don’t know the full story. This could be a false allegation for all we know taking into account all that has happened in this space the past few years. He will probably get stood down for the meantime though.
Me personally though don’t make conclusions so easily.
Benjamin Mendy? Spent time in jail only to eventually reveal, false allegations.
Greenwood? We will never know..
Neymar?
Ronaldo?

He won't be able to leave Australia until the trial has been held. Being arrested at the Airport seems to indicate he was trying to flee.

That Sri Lankan international cricketer arrested on rape charges in Sydney, it took about 11 months from his arrest in Nov 2022 to trial & acquittal in Sept 2023.

https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/star-sri-lankan-cricketer-found-not-guilty-over-tinder-date-rape-charges/ck6d6xp5m

Gunathilaka has been on bail during the trial but was unable to play international cricket or return to his hometown of Colombo.

We've all heard the Greenwood audio pal.

Three for me, and two for them.

If guilty, then I hope he gets everything he deserves, but if innocent, I hope that the deal with situation quickly for all parties involved.

For all we know it could be an ex partner pissed off he is going overseas to take up one of his offers and leaving her behind... time will tell.

I also think this just won us the league - horrible way to do so!

With the advances in AI recently though, we can never really be completely 100% sure if it is real though.
Those AI voicers are incredibly accurate and on the grain of sand on a beach chance of his partner trying to fabricate it for the fame, money etc she could have recorded his voice for the sample while they were together. If this was repeatedly happening how is that the only small piece of evidence she had?

To be clear I’m not suggesting that they were false allegations or excusing what happened in any way, it’s just with this kind of thing there is the tiniest of chances , you can’t be 100%

I thought he was arrested today? They arrived back from Kyrgyzstan last Friday night.
The headline above is
"Soccer player Angel Torres has just been arrested at Sydney Airport."

So he was arrested last Friday, but official charges only laid today, breaking the story in the media?

Okay that would make more sense, given yes they arrived in Sydney on Friday.

I doubt the NSW Police would wait 3-4 days to lay charges. Google tells me in Australia charges need to be made within 6 hours of an arrest.

Edit - yipe not arrested at Sydney Airport
https://www.9news.com.au/national/aleague-player-angel-torres-charged-with-sexual-assault/eb547009-d4e4-447f-a432-2ccff62fcb59

Torres, 24, who plays for the Central Coast Mariners, was arrested at a home in Terrigal, on the NSW Central Coast, yesterday.

The charges are obviously very serious, he could be a year in Australia (likely on bail) before it goes to trial.

Yep I saw the same - property at Terrigal. So one could assume that he was arrested at home.

I think they must have flown in from South Korea as well. Saw a story that Storm Roux posted the other day when they were in and around Seoul.

Didn't see that. Must have rearranged travel back,  once it was confirmed the Adealaide game to be rescheduled. Initially it was all about them arriving back, about the same time the Nix were playing the Jets.

Will be a bit of turmoil in Gosford right now, 24 hours before a huge AFC Cup game.

I can't remember if it was on the forum or somewhere else but I heard he was also apparently being linked with the new Auckland club?

Apparently Kant arrived on Saturday so not exactly sure what CCMs travel agent has been up to.

Btw can we show some tact with the Torres subject, suggesting the situation helps our chances of lifting the Premiers Plate kinda feels gross.

Yeah, I saw that & that is what made me decide to post that here. It wasn't targeted at anyone. I would hope we are above that on here.

I get that, but it is the reality of the situation - if one of their players got injured tonight, whilst we would hope they have a quick recovery, we wouldn't hide from the fact it helps.

The above is a much worse situation, and I hope justice whichever way it falls happens quickly and fairly, but it does improve our chances.

But in fairness to him, and the victim (alleged) not judgements around character etc should be made.

Yipe it's a horrible situation, and I ain't going to bother reading what some poisonous folks are writing on Twitter. As per RR we are better than that on here. But if you haven't at least had a thought bubble that the Nix's Championship chances are now improved, you truly are a saint.

Winning the AFC Cup doesn't add a extra spot. CCM as the highest placed eligible team in the A-League, gain direct entry to the Asian Champions League Elite. Sydney as Australia Cup winners gain direct entry into the Asian Champions League 2.

Sounds like Peil has invested $7m AUD of his own money in the last 2.5 years and can’t continue to make it work with the APL funding reduction.

CCM Fans I talk to on Twitter are not sad to see Peil go,. They think that have succeeded recently despite him rather than because of him.

Bills are gonna have to be paid & if Charlesworth isn't wanting to do that past this season, they need to find a new owner/s asap. Wonder if there are any more Foley's out there wanting to add to their group of clubs?

They surely broke even last year with their player signins to winning $$ through the tier to Asian Chmps league.

They will earn money through that comp again this year.... so some positive signs.

What happened to Torres and his rape case... he was going to leave on a free, but I imagine offers dried up. If the charges are dropped, I wonder if he will go back to them.

So was he just leasing the team from Charlesworth?

I know the centre is excellence was retained by Charlesworth, so it seems a complicated arrangement.
