You may have noted him carefully making sure that P. Rollo spreads the "club had no ambition" line, presumably through "off-the-record" comments, alongside the "family" line. He's really good at getting people on his side. I've noticed this elsewhere with Ifill defending him on Twitter. The most charitable way to deal with this was that he was trying to put pressure on the Nix for more money through building a fan-club among local football "influencers".

DOME: "Mark, I hear whispers you're going to ditch us for Western United."
RUDAN: "No way, that's a dirty lie! I'm 100% committed to the rest of my contract."

What does Dome say in that situation? Under what circumstances can he say "bullshark, I don't believe you"? How much proof would he need? Actual photos of Rudan going into the Bitumens' office? Leaked emails?

I am choosing to believe that this is confirmation for my suspicion - that M. Rudan has been lining up members of the NZ football community with self-serving, dishonest versions of what's going on (which many people here want to believe because it would be much easier to make Welnix the bad guy).

Yes. He framed the story in different ways depending on who the audience was, both on and off the record, all of it as part of an exit strategy designed to ensure that he comes out as clean as possible once he did officially announce his exit.

What reason did/does Dome have to disbelieve Rudan? Assuming he asked Rudan about the rumours and Rudan denied them then naturally you have to belief your own staff member.

I think something we have to remember here is something that the screenwriter John Rogers said about the current president of the USA:

That's super interesting then. Obviously a breakdown in how the people involved see things going on. Would love to hear the other side but Sarah felt like she carried the bulk of the effort.

There's always two sides, but if the club did nothing to organise the testimonial then why were all the club representatives there. Surely if Mrs Dura organised it all without the club's support she would have told them all to get fudgeed?

Starting to sound like it wasnt only Rudan who was looking to be making up exit strategies. Seems some have forgotten who has helped set them up pretty well for the future

I agree, but you see the conflict here? JD was saying that Welnix "should have known" Rudan was going to the Bitumens. But if Rudan said he wasn't going to the Bitumens, and Dome didn't have photos/leaked emails, I don't see what he could have reasonably have done.

I totally agree!

I think Dome could have done some things better - and I've emailed him directly saying as much - he is, and always has been very passionate and driven to see this club succeed. I cannot question his desire - some of his decisions sure. On this "the club should have known more" I say how? from what trusted source would they have gained this information. Rudan has proven to be very clever and creating a narrative that only unsubstantiated rumours exist to refute his story (even though they proved correct). It has to be tough to run a club that is under threat of extinction, especially when you have a manager that is complaining about ambition and money not being spent.

Pretty sad really that there seems to be so many lies and half truths being told from multiple people on both sides. Especially when some of those have over the years in high regard by some.

Yet again its the fans who are being shafted something this club is becoming pretty good at.

If half the football goldfish bowl knew then Nix mgmt did. It isn't necessarily a conversation you can have - but of course the knowledge would cause you to make decisions differently

It appears that:

1, Rudan got summoned home by his wife because (due to past history) he can't keep his pants on.

2, He engineered the messages about his departure with the crap about ambition. The Phoenix squad was once again financially comparable to all but the league's top 3 teams. The Phoenix still has the best youth set-up of any team. The club may run on a smaller backroom staff but to claim a lack of ambition just doesn't add up.

3, Western United staff had long stated their new manager was involved in recruitment before he was announced. He clearly behaved unethically when the Phoenix had done all they could to build him what he needed.

4, Even if the club suspected this was going on with no actual proof they would have had legal implications for terminating a contract with no facts to back it up and at the same time can you imagine if they sacked him when we were top 4 and challenging on a rumour - no matter how strong?

5, The club worked fast to sign a replacement. They also negotiated hard with all the players that have left but at the same time were realistic about what they could justify paying them.

6, You think you like angst now wait until you catch the next departure.

7, Rudan has been using social media - fake accounts and misrepresentation - to try and defend his actions. Good luck to Western United if some journalist actually goes all in on him.

8, After pulling an (estimated and conservatively so) 3 million dollars out of this club in salary we're meant to feel sorry for Dura because the testimonial whose grandiose plans were driven by people outside the club didn't make him another million? Fudge off.

Also, Dome isn't going to go out and slander an ex-employee in the press without proof—especially one who has a lot of connections with the Australian media. I'd be surprised if his opinion in private isn't quite different from the Phoenix official line.

Every player whose contract has expired who we would honestly miss has already gone.

I'd angst over losing Libby, Singh and Taylor and they're all on current contracts, which I don't believe have a "Rudan clause" in it.

So I'm going to guess it's Greenacre going.

If Rudan has actually stripped the Nix for parts and dragged our name through the mud with the ex-player community just to cover up his tendency to adultery, he's worse than a Judas.

Bit slow on the uptake our learned friend? There has been subtle innuendo on here about that, for months. Baiter just the first to say it outright.

Charismatic confident males & adultery, bedfellows since we were living in caves.

Still have a lot of respect for what Rudan did with the Nix on the field last season. The club are in a much better position (licence issue aside), than they were 12 months ago.

But the whole missing family story, you have to chuckle now. The rumours that WU are possibly already in financial shark.........karma.

Time to forget about Mark Rudan, and look forward to what his less charismatic but hopefully more honest mate Talay can do.
