Ange needs his head read. Just as he is getting back all his credibility as a coach, he takes a the A-League's version of Liverpool.
How does that comparison work?
Probably wasn't the best comparison. Was meaning both clubs have history of winning trophies, but have suffered from bad club management recently. And have fans with massive expectations, where winning games might not be enough to please them.

I feel sorry for him. Having your personal problems dragged through the media, especially by 442, just because you're a footballer sucks. Give them some space to sort it!

What was the final score? Did Marco play?

Permalink Permalink
almost 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

Marco did start the game, not sure if he was subbed or not. Finished 4-1.

Interesting comments about MV, but some of their top players were not playing and the fact that they got 16000 for this game says something.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

There was a small event over at the MCG that night that had ~80,000 people. Might explain why the crowd was so low.

Fabio to Sydney?

Permalink Permalink

Abbas to sydney is even better.

Fabio to anywhere but here would be fine, as long as we play that team three times in the first half of the season before he settles into the team dynamic and becomes a half-decent player.

STREWTH COBBERS !!! KEWELL QUITS A-LEAGUE AND RETIRES !!!!

It's probably old news to many but what a bombshell for Melbourne - their second earth-shuddering quake in a week (though not geo-physical this time) !!!

He was supposed to be the big star that saved things for everyone and drew the punters in.

SEE:

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news-display/Kewell-quits-Victory/47843

Harry Kewell has quit Melbourne Victory, citing personal reasons for leaving the Hyundai A-League club.

It is understood Kewell was on the verge of signing a new two-year contract, in excess of $1 million a season, but made the stunning decision to reject Victory's offer for family reasons.

It's understood the mother of Kewell's wife, Sheree Murphy, is gravely ill and he has chosen to stay by her side in England.

In a statement posted on the Victory's website, Kewell said, “It was one of the toughest decisions we’ve had to make. I enjoyed playing for Victory and living in Melbourne, but family comes first and together we made a decision that it was best for us to remain close to our family at this time.”

In: Traore, Gallagher, Bru, Dilevski, Finkler, Markelis, Flores

Out: Covic, Hernandez, Brebner, Kemp, Vargas, Pondeljak, Kewell

Ange is doing a pretty good job upgrading the Victory squad. With having a top coach this season, they look like they will be in the title hunt. Only saving grace for the rest of us would be that they are still looking to be light at the back.

Looking at their squad, they have Cernak who will be on decent wages but well down the pecking order, he might be one they try to move on to free up cap space for an Aussie defender.

They also still have Velaphi as their No.1 keeper. I'm picking that many of their games will have scorelines along the lines of 4-3.

You're mistaking the future for the lurid Green seats that will be empty post-Kewell.

Victory beat a Tassie XI 4-0, no sign of Marco in the squad.

Below is a video of the goals from the Victory's 4-2 win against Adelaide last night. Izzo in goal for Adelaide had a couple shockers for the Victorys first 2 goals. Marco came off the bench in the 62nd minute.

71′ Rojas gets through from a great ball out of midfield. He tries chipping the keeper from an angle on the right. He has the keeper beaten but the shot goes just wide of the left upright.

77′ GOAL! Victory 4-1! Finkler with some great work on the top of the box. He made two or three little interchanges with players before playing in Rojas. Rojas made the shot from the left on an angle but it was well saved. Finkler fired home the rebound! Great football.

Perhaps he was not willing to take part in the game as the Tassie changing rooms/training facilities weren't up to his standards?

Finkler looks pretty decent

Victory drew 1-1 with CCM this afternoon. Sounds like Marco had a very good game.

A post on the Sydney boards suggest they were playing a 4-2-2-2.

------------------Tando--------------
--Dilevski--Foschini--Millsy--Traore
------------Jeggo--Bru--------------
---Thompson-----------Rojas-------
---------Flores----Finkler-----------
--------------------------------------

Pretty much their starting team, so I wonder if Ange plans on having Flores up front. That seems strange.
