Newcastle Jets - Better than C-Diddy would hope.

Won't deny the silver spoon comment since football in Aus has become a bit of a pay to play but cmon, say that behind closed doors not to the media. Also no accountability as a coach that maybe, just maybe, his tactics aren't perfect.

Jets are certainly on an overachieving roll, so understandable Stanton is getting interest elsewhere.

M'Mombwa (Tanzania) was the only visa player in their squad last night in the win over Melb City. And really he's Aussie raised, coming to Oztraylia as a youngster from Africa.

But yeah fair play to Newcastle (9th) and their long suffering fans. I hope they make finals. 6 pts adrift of WSW (6th) currently.

Pity that NZ eligible Ben Gibson (4 goals this season) hasn't played much lately. But we do also have Lachlan Bayliss & Dane Ingham there.

In the engine room, Lachlan Bayliss has been so influential he’s been tipped to be in contention for a senior international debut for New Zealand and Callum Timmins has been ever-present.

M'Mombwa has Aussie citizenship, so not really a visa. Wellissol & Kota Mizunuma are their only two visas.

Yeah I should have picked up on that.

Sounds like Mizunuma's (didn't play last night) arrival in January, has been a big part of the Jets revival. Begs the question why a 35 yr old J League player coming in halfway through an ALM season can be an instant success.

Whilst the Nix have their 2 Japanese players who had at least some sort pre season in Welly, now languish on the bench!! Black mark against either Chiefy's coaching or recruiting.

I watched large parts of the Jets vs City game (not all of it) and while I do not begrudge the Jets their win, City should have won by a few goals and would have deserved that.  The reason they did not was that Jets' keeper had a blinder of a game. Nothing went past him, and when it did then a defender stuck out their foot to deflect a sure goal away.  Something I would like to have seen from our own defence more often.

Jets had played half a season before they signed him, so knew exactly what they needed to add into their side from an import. They didn't try to build the team's style around their visa players.

The guys we signed, I don't think have fitted into the roles Chief had intended for them as much as he hoped.

Yes seems to have done very well with a low budget Jets team of predominantly young Aussie players. A possible coach option for the Nix, if Chiefy doesn't stay on?

Sounds like a lot of knife sharpening went on behind the scenes to get rid of Stanton. Under him the Jets have been surprisingly watchable and generally shown more spine than the Nix.

Rallis being Rallis didn't help the whole situation it seems.

My nephew is in the RAAF fighter jet program and is about to transfer from Perth to Newcastle.

He grew up on a Wairarapa sheep & beef farm, and had his first flying lessons at Hood Aerodrome. Ex Palmy Boys HS. Sadly he has zero interest in football.
