A "foreign talent" and an "Aussie striker"

Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the club's control, we won’t be able to announce our new signings on Friday as planned.

Sounds like the Aussie striker was Babalj but he accepted another deal at the last minute. Signed with the same club Gol Gol is currently at.

The Roar are set to announce that triallist Peter Skapetis, who scored against Peninsula, will be offered an injury-replacement deal as cover for long-term casualty Daniel Bowles (knee).

Former Newcastle and Perth midfielder Mitch Oxborrow was to have signed as Bowles’s injury replacement, but he instead put pen to paper on a regular season-long contract.

The Roar have also signed teenage midfielder Emilio Martinez on a scholarship deal.

SYDNEY FC will land another star foreigner this week when Polish winger Adrian Mierzejewski arrives to complete a three-year deal.

After a courtship of several weeks, the Sky Blues expect the former Polish international will have passed a medical and signed the deal on offer by the end of the week.

Mierzejewski will replace Filip Holosko on the right side of Sydney’s midfield, though his salary — believed to be close to $600,000 — will come inside the salary cap.

After ridiculous rumours linking it to global superstar Zlatan Ibrahumovic, a two-year deal on the table for Croatian Antun Palic was seen as slightly more realistic.

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder is a free agent having left Romanian club FC Dinamo Bucuresti — where he played 73 games in the past two years.

But the eight-time Croatian youth international is now understood to be on the verge of signing for another overseas club.

And in an added bonus to its 2017-18 prospects, firebrand winger Fernando Brandan is making a play for a shock Round 1 return from a serious knee injury.

Brandan required surgery after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament in training in March.

The season-opening clash against Brisbane at AAMI Park on October 6 would be seven months post injury, but the 27-year-old is back running and recovering well.

A Round 1 return is seen as a best-case scenario, but the club’s medical staff is confident Brandan will feature early in the season.

I don't remember so many late signing by the Qz teams in previous years. Is reflecting the perceived improved standard and growth of the a-league?

Seems a pretty standard off season to me, the signings appear to be of a higher quality at this stage tho
