On The Attack has learnt that heading the Wanderers’ list of defensive targets is Socceroos’ veteran Milos Degenek, who is struggling for game time at his Cypriot club APOEL.
Western Sydney also wants Auckland FC defender Dan Hall, who has been a rock for the Kiwi outfit since heading to New Zealand after helping Central Coast Mariners win the treble in 2024.
Hall’s Auckland contract expires at the end of the club’s 2025-26 campaign. It’s understood he is keen for a move to Asia, but the Wanderers are working to secure him.
The other defender Western Sydney is pursuing is Melbourne City’s Argentine import German Ferreyra.
As previously revealed in this column, Ferreyra is also wanted by City’s arch rivals Melbourne Victory, but the Wanderers have also entered the race to secure the South American, whose two-year City deal will expire at the end of the finals series.
Macarthur FC striker Harry Sawyer is close to securing a move to Melbourne Victory.
The towering 29-year-old marksman has scored 13 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions in two seasons with the Bulls.
However, too many of those appearances, particularly in the closing months of Macarthur’s 2025-26 campaign, were off the bench – not to Sawyer’s liking.
Victory’s pursuit of Sawyer suggests that off-contract Greek striker Nikos Vergos won’t be retained beyond the finals series.
Japanese forward Charles Nduka’s Victory deal is also set to expire, but he has done enough since joining the club in January to earn a new contract.
