Another Twitter feed had Kosta leaving WSW for a local state side???

I had WSW are clearing house, but would have thought he would still have suitors in the A League.

Hope turned down and extension & is looking at other opportunities.

Hore would be worth a look at I reckon. Not been a stellar season for him but he's a skillful high energy player who can make things happen. Very dangerous in front of goal too.

"Auckland’s squad is set to be strengthened next season by the arrival of Lachlan Bayliss from the Newcastle Jets."

"Jets captain Kosta Grozos, who hasn’t been offered a new deal by Newcastle, is in Sydney FC’s sights."

On The Attack: Did Sydney sign Patrick Kisnorbo out of emotion?

Well that is vomit inducing.  His dad was from Wellington, presumably still has family here bet they won't  be over the moon with him going to that club. Should have stayed in Australia or gone to Europe.

strange choice, why not stay at the Jets a gain exposure in Asia? coming to AFC he's never gonna get that, unless there is a deal being made that if he comes to AFC and does well then he will be moved to Bournemouth the following season?

Queenslander 3x a year.

He does now have a carrot of the intercontinental club championship game as well against the saudis.

You never know plays a blinder against Spurs as well and may end up in the championship with them 🧐

He’s also thrown his lot in with New Zealand so playing with a bunch of kiwis he may enjoy,

His brother may have signed as well so may be many reasons.

Probably not Bournemouth, but maybe one of the other clubs in Foleys portfolio like a Lorient or Moreirense.

His cousin works for the Nix, I think is the kitman.

Bayliss to AFC makes a lot of sense for both parties. AFC pick up a very good young kiwi talent for their midfield which currently has aging pros like Gallegos and Brimmer.
Bayliss gets to play for a club in the Foley group which has plenty of high profile games ahead including possibly a World club tournement

Little cousin Seb.

Wonder why the urgency to sign with them?  Why not wait till after the world cup when stocks might rise. Oh well, guess he'll be dead to me next season.

Maybe AFC get some FIFA dollars from him participating at the World Cup. So would be in their interests to have him contracted before the tournament begins?

Also you would think that Bayliss’s minutes would be limited to none in the actual World Cup so stocks unlikely to rise in the short term.

Auckland are definitely go to play at least one FIFA Intercontinental Cup game this year against Al-Ahli from Saudi Arabia - winners of the 2025–26 AFC Champions League Elite. They beat Japan's Machida Zelvia 1-0 in the final. After beating another J League side Vissel Kobe in the semis. Both games in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

You can see where those rumours came from that Japan wanted to form an East Asian split from AFC!

Very short odds, Auckland FC will need to travel to Saudi to play Al-Ahli. But at least it will likely be their ALM side, and not their far weaker OFC Pro League squad. You'd give them a 10-20% chance of pulling off an upset. Riyad Mahrez, Édouard Mendy, Ivan Toney and Franck Kessié some of Al-Ahli's bigger names.

The winner of Auckland FC vs Al-Ahli, plays winners of the 2025–26 CAF Champions League in the Intercontinental Cup 2nd round. Either Sundowns from Sth Africa or FAR Rabat from Morocco.

So yeah some potentially big games for Bayliss or whoever is at AFC next season.

For what it's worth amateur Auckland City lost 3-0 last year in the 1st round to Pyramids FC (CAF champions) in Cairo. Pyramids FC then beating Al-Ahli 3-1 in Jeddah.

Auckland FC might sneak under the radar being confused with that amateur Kiwitea St club.

I had the same thought for why he'd want to make the move. Big chance to show off your quality.

However, it does feel unfair to me that the OPL team do all the work so the A-League team gets all the rewards.

I assume AFC players, registered for the AL, can't get paid more due to AL salary cap restrictions (other than AFC using legal loopholes in the cap).

With star winger Jesse Randall leaving Auckland to join Scottish Premiership club Dundee United, the Black Knights want to retain Gillion.

However, it’s understood New Zealand international Gillion is keen to link with the Wanderers, who are undergoing a rebuild under new coach Ufuk Talay.

A bit player, being signed as a visa is a bit of a risk, unless he has Aussie heritage we are not aware of.

Ernie Merrick brought Matt Ridenton to the Jets as a visa player!

Gillion shone in the OFC Pro League and forced his way back into AFC's ALM team. Sounds like Auckland want to keep him.

I've always thought his 'lack of final product/head not looking up' weaknesses could be worked on with good coaching. That same criticim was levelled at an early Nix, Ben Old. Knowing that Gillion has come into pro football at a later age than someone like Old.

Not saying Liam G is going to end up in France or anything, but is still some hope he's going to be an above average A League player.

My mind went to Ridenton too, the difference being, Ridenton was a starter for us when he was signed. Not a bit player.

Yeah Ridenton a starter in a season where the Nix finished 9th or 2nd last (edging 10th placed CCM by a point).

Gillion on the bench for the toilet seat winners, and dominant club over the last two seasons.

I think Gillion would have started for many clubs in the league. There are often fast young wingers who come in, but don’t develop their skills or tenacity and so never kick on as footballers.

I always hear fap over someone at Brisbane or Adelaide, and rarely do they develop into consistent Championship or above quality or a starting Socceroo.

Corica was pushing Gillion to be better. Same for Kosta. He might be bitter about the chances he had behind Ifill, Bertos and Greenie, but it motivated him.

Ridenton is an odd one. Suffered from not finding a position and probably just missing out on the academy. I’m worried though that there’s no game time that Rufer, Surman, Paul’s et al benefited from in NZ. They need to be playing games.

It’s ludicrous that the OFC shuts out one of its two existing professional clubs to fund the player development of a club with two billionaire owners. And then allows in South Melbourne. Perhaps we need that South Melbourne owner? That’s what the baying group here want…

If Gillion can add product, he’s a gun.  And remember he was starting for a good long while for AFC.

And for the rest of us, perhaps a sign of a slight crack in the wall of that AFC culture.

Very weird from WSW to sign him if hes an import? Ridenton had 80 games for the Nix under his belt by 22 and linking up with his former coach who would've been a fan of him. The Jets as well always have been one of the lower spenders in the league so less surprising going for a cheaper import compared to WSW who are one of the top spenders.

Gillion must have some Australian heritage or WSW are going broke.
