United’s general manager of football Ante Kovacevic, says the club will in the next 48 hours find out if it has secured the international striker who played for his country in the qualification stage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The striker has played for years in Germany’s Bundesliga, is in his thirties and will become Adelaide’s most significant signing in the history of the club — if the Reds can pull it off.
Kovacevic would not name the striker who is now considering the marquee offer but revealed he is not Spanish.
Kovacevic also revealed the club was close to signing an experienced Australian winger to bolster its squad this week.

I almost choked on this one:
these 4 are ok:Dwight Yorke, Robbie Fowler, Alessandro Del Piero and Harry Kewell.
but Miroslav Klose isn't. Klose they reckon "does not appeal to the wider market" yet surely the wider market watches the World Cup and he has been at the WC consistently performing at the top level for over a decade and has the scoring record for goals at World Cups.
If you can get ruled out on that basis, do you pretty much have to come from 80s/90s Manchester/Liverpool or Juventus to get in?
Klose even at his age would be a BIG benefit to anyone. I'd sign him for a year or two.
If Klose does not qualify, who else? What else you have to do in football? He is an absolute legend of football, the only thing is he is a more private family man and the money he wants does not qualify him in the eye of the FFA clowns.
