Bad move for him going to Stuttgart in the first place. Needed another couple of years in the A-League imo.

Agree with the first sentence but not the second. Stuttgart was too much of a step up but I think he was ready to go to a better league - just not that much better. Then the bad foot injury before the season started and the coach who signed him leaving early on both kind of screwed him too and there's no way he could have seen either of those things coming

Stuttgart have changed coach 8 times since Marco signed and missed most of his first season due to injury (28 games):

ADELAIDE United is waiting for an answer from a potential star marquee signing.

United’s general manager of football Ante Kovacevic, says the club will in the next 48 hours find out if it has secured the international striker who played for his country in the qualification stage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The striker has played for years in Germany’s Bundesliga, is in his thirties and will become Adelaide’s most significant signing in the history of the club — if the Reds can pull it off.

Kovacevic would not name the striker who is now considering the marquee offer but revealed he is not Spanish.

Kovacevic also revealed the club was close to signing an experienced Australian winger to bolster its squad this week.

Reds close in on Kuranyi https://t.co/LKLXu6CcDk @TheTiserSport

Could be a great signing, but at 34 is he a 90 minutes player?

Kevin Kuranyi! This would be nice to see him play. He is a better player than Cahill.

The move is off after he turned down Adelaide's contract offer

Fantastic! Of course, I wish he were playing for us, but I'll watch every Victory game with interest.

Slightly more indepth read about the criteria here - http://outside90.com/special-in-depth-examination-of-the-ffa-marquee-player-investment-criteria/

I almost choked on this one:

these 4 are ok:Dwight Yorke, Robbie Fowler, Alessandro Del Piero and Harry Kewell.

but Miroslav Klose isn't. Klose they reckon "does not appeal to the wider market" yet surely the wider market watches the World Cup and he has been at the WC consistently performing at the top level for over a decade and has the scoring record for goals at World Cups.

If you can get ruled out on that basis, do you pretty much have to come from 80s/90s Manchester/Liverpool or Juventus to get in?

Klose even at his age would be a BIG benefit to anyone. I'd sign him for a year or two.

If Klose does not qualify, who else? What else you have to do in football? He is an absolute legend of football, the only thing is he is a more private family man and the money he wants does not qualify him in the eye of the FFA clowns.

twitter followers > footballing ability. Apparently.

That means I'm closer to qualifying for the Cahill Marquee spot than Lionel Messi is. Sign me up!

That too a long time to get done, at one point the Roar was asking for Cahill monies to help out.

Braedyn Crowley (ex Jets) has reportedly signed a contract with City.

Western Sydney Wanderers have reportedly come to terms with 28-year-old Argentinian attacking midfielder Nicolas Martinez and signed him on loan from Greek Super League club Olympiakos.

As part of the loan deal with Western Sydney sources at gazzetta.gr say that out of his current wages of $563,000 a season, the Wanderers have agreed to pay about $266,000 while Olympiakos will foot the remainder.

Kamau, Fitzgerald and Caceras not likely to be in the first team. If Gameiro is back he is down the pecking order too.

Will be interesting to see how JVS keeps those attacking players happy, they are all at an age where they should be playing and have moved from clubs where they were guaranteed game time to now most likely bench time.

Do any of these players have clauses in their contracts whereby they can be released to other clubs if they are not getting regular game time?
