I imagine that you'd have a very difficult time enforcing a restrain of trade clause in a labour market like the A-league.

I've said this before, but what club would want to keep a coach who doesn't want to be here? People keep saying Rudan only left because his contract had a 8 week notice clause.  But if a coach said I want to leave to be closer to my family, it would be silly to keep him. Any person can quit their job.

There is no way Rudan would be here this year if that clause wasn't there. He wanted out so better to cut ties and move on. At least we had sufficient warning, and we could appoint someone before the season had finished.

Look at Victory. Muscat quit in the off season and they panic hired Kurz.

How long did it take you to type that out?

Pleasantly surprised to read in the Niche Cache that Uffie's contract was for 3 years (including this season), so he's contracted for two more seasons beyond this one.

I thought he was given a 2 year deal but glad to hear that was not the case.

Certainly hope we can extend him at some point, there isn't necessarily a rush, though I know we are a bit panicked due to Rudangate. As far as 'locking a coach in' goes, I don't think it would be beneficial for our results to have a coach however good that doesn't want to be here. Good thing is though, the signs point to him being happy here for a while at least, I'm sure the success will be helping him enjoying it here and help drive him to build to take us all the way.

Unless he's received an extension that only the Niche Cache knows about, he is on a two-year deal.

I think what we have here is the extension of the nagging feeling that we get every time we get a decent player: "only a matter of time before they get poached", and the bandying around of Ufuk's name for the Vuck job may have just been pulled out of the author's bum, but it might be Ufuk's agent trying to spook the Nix into giving him a new car or something.

Any good clinician would suggest that YF displays classic symptoms of PTSD.

if clubs have to “buy out” contracts when they sack a coach, surely it’s only fair for coaches to buy their way out of a contract if they want to leave early. The price might be monetary paid by the coach or whoever wants to pay it for him or in the case of them not wanting or able to pay, they stand down from football until the contract runs its course.

Ufuk's family is here which debunks one of Rudan's weak excuses.

I am sure if Mrs Talay felt lonely there would be a clamouring of YF related people keen to get Uffie's family involved / included.

great that we are talking to him about staying and pleasing to see him saying he wants to stay the course and see his contract through to completion. I'd like to see him extend for a further 2 years to give us a sold platform to build on.

surely we wouldn't let Talay go after one season?

I mean what are we a coaching development pathway for Aussie coaches?

Traianos Dellas reportedly given 24-hour deadline to accept offer as next Melbourne Victory coach

The Greek Herald
July 19, 2020

Greek manager Traianos Dellas is allegedly in the final stages of talks with Melbourne Victory to take over as head coach next season.

According to information received by The Greek Herald, Melbourne Victory was unable to reach an agreement with Wellington Phoenix coach Ufuk Talay, as his team refused to terminate his three-year contract.

The same information states that the ‘Colossus’ of Greek football has been given a deadline of tomorrow, Monday, to respond to Victory’s contract proposal.

If Dellas accepts Melbourne Victory’s proposal, he is likely to bring with him his assistant, Vasilis Borbokis, and coach Dimitrios Bouroutzikas to be part of his management team.

Dellas last coached Greek team Panetolikos from 2018–2019, leaving for unspecified personal reasons, with the club finishing sixth on the ladder at the back end of last season.

So Ufuk's attempted poaching by the Vucktree stalled at the first hurdle when Ufuk refused to break his Nix contract.

what did they think they were even doing

This year we have played better football than since our first entry into the league. The coach has done a great job and it is  his first season.

Seriously if you cant see the progress thats been made this season suggest its you who needs to give up.Given he started with 7 players to have got them to at the moment 3rd on the table is pretty impressive.

We weren't meant to do anything this season, and we've made potentially 3rd. I'd say that's pretty good (disappointing results of late included). Give it another few years. Did you say the same for Rudan when he lost to the Victory in the finals and in the regular season lost to Perth when they scored 5 against us?

Fudge yeah I blamed Rudan, that disgusting snake, and remember he recommended Uffie to us.

Flashbacks to 2015 when we were actually top of the league for a while, ended up blowing it in the final stretch and came 4th, then kicked out of finals on first weekend... and people then told me to sit down and shut up and be grateful as well, lol. What happened next season? Ernie quit because he'd reached the limits of what he was capable and we had a crap year.

It's the disappointment I can't stand. Last season I expected nothing and got nothing and I'm fine with that. But to throw it all away like this shows a severe lack of mental fortitude, and I don't want to blame a whole team of players, so I'll blame the gaffer.

Wait, I genuinely thought you were joking. Is Royz your alt account?

In what world is 3rd place any sort of failure when you look at the start of this season and the football we've played? Get a grip. Don't blame someone else for you being unable to deal with your own expectations.

Nothing has been thrown away and if we play how we did last night but with Gary Hooper up top then we've got a proper shot at the toilet seat.

i think its been said before - but worth being re-said.

if at the start of this season we'd been offered 3rd/4th place we would have jumped at it with both hands and been happy. Given we'd lost half the squad, had a new coach and weer in effect rebuilding AGAIN!

the only reason we are disappointed is because Uffie has got this team playing so well pre covid. Expectations went from "meh, we'll be happy to play finals footy" to "holy shark, we are easily a top 2 team here". That is an amazing change for one season. The big downer is that we have lost our mojo since the return, which is sad, but lest be fair to the lads, they had 3 months off, then had to move locations and be isolated for a number of weeks. They are all away from family and their home base in Wellington. None of that is normal or easy. Plus, despite all this we have secured a decent third place (maybe 4th). We are playing finals footy - be happy about it. Can Uffie turn this funk around? that's the big question, on recent form you'd be a bit uncomfortable, but he has some time to get the lads fired up to beat Perth/Western United.
