I have thought though it would make a good pre-season location if arranged for same weekend as the annual Tom McCartney tournament. (and the season dates permit). It would just take 1000 sausages and few bouncy castles behind one goal, and a beer and wine tent behind the other!.
🚨 The APL has made the decision to delay the introduction of a Canberra United Men’s team. The consortium, led by Michael Caggiano, is still finalising its funding, with an aim to enter the competition in the 2025/26 season. Next season will consist of 13 teams. Outs - Canberra team for 2024/25.
Ins - Bye Weeks
Sigh.
Auckland will rise once more

The APL has slashed Canberra United’s funding from $350,000 to $200,000, effectively swallowing up April’s government money and putting United back where they started — with Capital Football yet to reveal the impact on the club’s future. [@canberratimes]https://t.co/Cvxj0qBjVS

The A Leagues need sides from Canberra more then they need Western United and the Bulls (both teams should never have been brought in to the league).
If Canberra fails, you can kiss goodbye to the Gold Coast and Northern Queensland coming back and expansion in to Tassie, areas that actually need the A League.

A huge thanks for everyone’s patience as we seek to get this project over the line.
We are close.
Negotiations with investors are well advanced, but as the deadline to take part in the 2025-26 season approaches, we need one last big push. pic.twitter.com/i4P6o3e1Qz

Yip. I won't be counting no chickens out of ACT until the eggs have actually hatched.
Hearing that the Canberra AL’s bid hope to have an investor in place by Xmas…in time to start looking at players in the January window. You’d think the new year would be the last chance for them to get something in place for next (men’s) season.

Have obviously written letters to Santa asking for a rich American or Arab sugar daddy.
“We’ve been good all year Santa, please please please bring us that sugar daddy we’ve always wanted”.
Queenslander 3x a year.
Auckland FC didn't announce their first players until May 29th. But I imagine talking to players in the Jan window is important when starting to form a squad.
But other majors like a ground and top notch training facilities, are already all there in Canberra.
Hearing two potential Canberra investors are currently going through due diligence with APL. Possibility that entry (men’s) could be delayed until season after next.

Also understand an EPL club is close to buying a stake in Melbn Victory…owner attended the Melbn Derby…

No surprises that it might be delayed - again
The Unicorns.
Although more chance of seeing a unicorn then a men's player from Canberra.
"Given it is now within eight months of the start of the 2025/26 A-League season, we have made the decision that any new men's A-League licence would enter the competition in the following season (2026/27)," an APL spokesperson told The Canberra Times.
Also the article mentions they are once again in discussions with Capital Football (who have again said they can't afford to keep running the team) to try and keep them running the Canberra United women's team for another season

Other headlines…

- Nick Garcia shifted into role as Head of Expansion & Investment
- In talks with two consortiums re: Canberra…no men’s team in 25/26. ALW should be ok for next year
- John Dovaston & Kaz Patafta elected to APL Board
Confirms that no Canberra for next season (Which we already pretty much knew) and that the Women's team should be all good for next season.
They have been talking to these 2 Canberra bids for months now right? We get a lot of updates saying everything's progressing well - except there never seems to be any actual progress
Will the Socceroos' friendly against New Zealand re-energise Canberra’s bid for an A-League Men’s team?
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
I reckon most club owners world wide would fail a proper "fit and proper" test. The UK is full of scum owners at all levels of the game and I bet Eastern European, African, Asian and South American owners make them look like saints in comparison.
I think its a bit of a clickbait-y title as it seems to just be a partnership between Canberra Oympic and WSW to send kids from Canberra to WSW training camps as they don't know when the stalled bid to enter the men's A-League will eventuate
