I think it would very cool if the Nixs play a friendly against the Wollongong Wolves preseason.

The Wellington Phoenix have arrived in Wollongong and wasted no time hitting the ground running. The majority of the club's A-League squad landed in the Illawarra on Sunday. Only missing were goalkeeper Steven Marinovic and midfielder Ulises Davila, who are currently based overseas. They are expected to arrive in NSW soon and will join the squad after spending two weeks in quarantine. The Phoenix will be based at the University for Wollongong for three weeks as part of a pre season camp. It is unclear whether the club will remain in Wollongong once the camp concludes. On the club's website, coach Ufuk Talay said they would "further evaluate their options" for a home base in the coming weeks. "The UOW gives us a great initial location to base ourselves from for this pre-season camp, while we continue to evaluate Wollongong - as well as other locations - for the squad to base themselves from for the 2020/21 season," Talay said.

How we could line up next season with the signings we want. Maybe a couple local players to fill out the squad too.

Not a bad starting XI with the standard most likely to be lower this season.

Why would Ball not be starting up front with Davila? Sotirio and Pisco on the wings.

Also, assuming DeVere stays on then he and TAHW would be starting CB's, surely. Then maybe you get an import CB and the rumoured import ST completes the squad.

Guess we will lose Laws, Devlin and Piscopo for a week or so of pre-season for these now.

club doesn't have to release them right? hopefully the 3 of them would rather play for the nix in a game that means something rather than a pre-Olympic hit out. Especially when the Olympics may not even happen

Unsure, it is during a FIFA window tho

FIFA window only applies for A internationals.

It would be very curlish to try stop them from joining any Olyroos camp/games. You only get one shot at the Olympics as a footballer. Devlin probably extra keen to push his case, having been overlooked for Olyroos Asian qualifying tourney.

2nd game Nov 17th, would still have them back with the Nix, 5 weeks before A League kickoff Dec 27th.

Could also schedule a A League AWs verus A League Socceroos game somewhere in that time slot (Nov 12th-17th), with a little 2-3 day AWs camp in NSW. Greenie to run it, with a large Danny Hay Zoom pitchside image beamed in from NZ. Very 2021. I'm sure Talay & the other Nix coaching staff could still keep themselves busy off paddock for a few days doing something, preparing for the new season.

The memory is a bit fuzzy on this but I think there might have been at one stage some clause in the A-League agreements that allowed the FFA to call up players to age group camps?

If it's during our preseason I'd like for the boys to play for the u23s if possible. Shows the average Aussie fan/player* that the Nix does benefit the Soccer/Oly Roos as well as the AWs.

* (Playing for us doesn't hurt their national team chances.)

I miss the trip to Welly for the weekend, putting on my Nix gear, a drink at the BB before the game, the walk along the concourse...

Its a shame they weren't able to play a pre season friendly at the stadium before heading to Aussie so we could all get our fix.

Spent my 21st in Wollongong at Brandon Park watching classic NSL match that was Wollongong Wolves 1-2 Newcastle Breakers on Feb 6th 2000.

Devlin had about 15min at the end also. He played really well I thought.

Are our boys better then the other Olyroos players outside of the likes of Azani?

Is the club going to be selling 2020/21 club memberships? obviously they wouldn't have season tickets but a hat I don't plan on wearing would be nice to have.

Membership for this season will be a loss course. The NSW membership might be ok for us people in the state, but other then that why bother>?

Doesn’t mean much though does it.  Uffie might have asked for that to protect them.

Something like 8 players from the Ollyroo squad are not available for the next game because they are off to ACL in Qatar.

I think the starting line up reflected this. Expect more game time for the Nix trio in the next Ollyroo match on Tuesday.
