The NZ selection looks very young for the non-internationals. What are the lineups likely to be? Something like...

NZS

Moss

Fenton Boxall Durante ?

Ridenton McGlinchey Taye?

Boyd Brockie Stevens/Rufer?

Phoenix

Italiano

Muscat Siggy Bonevacia Doyle

Rodriguez Reira Lia/Hicks

Burns Krishna Cunningham

Personally I think Doyle and Hicks should have been in the NZ selection for balance if nothing else. Glad to see the CBs spread out.

This is exciting.

Looking forward, in particular, to seeing Bonevacia for the first time.

Excited by our options and depth in the midfield.

Also looking forward to seeing the two front lines given a full run too.

And we get a road trip as well. Counting the sleeps.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

That NZ team looks very weak.

At least McGlinchey is getting some game time in the pre-season.

Both are at East Coast Bays, Wynne is left back. Would have been in the under 20's but had a exam for uni

And the fact Corey is a quality player.

I think when you look at national team future, Boxall has more than Sigmund and Sigmund will probably captain the Phoenix with Durante in the white.

I'm thinking that the Nix team looks quite tasty!

Chance for Krishna to show us what he can do.

Boxall for NZ and Siggy for Nix? Guess that's a pragmatic keep some stability in the Nix backline thing?

Do you really think there is that much difference between the two?

I think Boxall has the potential to overtake Siggy or Dura in the next year or two, but I don't think he's there yet.

To prove this point - has he ever yet started ahead of either Dura or Siggy for the Nix?

Would have thought this would have been a great chance for Payne to play in front of Ernie, is he still in NZ atm?

He must be unavailable since he was selected for the next international.

No, but the AW should be very forward looking. Siggy will be well past it at the next world cup (37) and it will be players like Boxall who need to step up.

I don't disagree with you that Boxall will need to be ahead of Siggy in say two years time, but we're talking about a game this weekend. And if it was a regular AWs game I'd still be putting Siggy ahead of Boxall, and by Nix selections so would Ernie M.

As much as we wish them to be, Durante and Sigmund are not international caliber centre backs.

What is international caliber though? I think those guys are good enough to deal with OFC opponents and a team like Jordan, who were the AFC team who had to playoff last time. Isn't that what we need? (ignoring Reid for the moment)

A bigger worry is the lack of an established holding mid to screen in front of them

Craig and I are heading up Saturday. Dinner somewhere in Taupo Saturday night and maybe some drinks, then a nice lazy brunch Sunday morning... then the game.

See you there. Sorry not drinking, gotta drive there then drive home again.

F*cken hope there won't be a need for shirts off, it'll be cold!

Solution: Take both your All Whites & Phoenix shirt - one on top of t'other. With 15 minutes to go, just make sure you are wearing the losing team's shirt on then outside then shirts off not an issue. A quick switch at the 90 minute mark and wa-hey win-win!

I know, I know, its serious!

In all seriousness, has Boxall had a good game at centre back for Phoenix or NZ?  He was ok against South Africa, and ok against Brisbane first game last year, apart from that it hasn't gone well...

He was great in his first game against China. From memory he was pretty good against Heart a couple of years ago. But he has hardly played at CB for the last couple of years which makes it difficult for him when he does and also difficult to judge him. But Siggy is comfortably number 1 at the moment imo.

We accept mediocrity.. Most porous defence two years running..

By the end of the season Boxall will have cemented a Centre back position.
