That all makes eminent sense - i was simply airing my ignorance about Joel Stevens. Any more on him?

Think he scored the first Phoenix hatty in a competitive match for the WeeNix at the weekend.  Beat Burns by an hour or so.

So Question

Brockie Leaving, this gives us two spaces available at present, with our front force looking pretty strong, another Midfielder loking to be signed on a youth contract what do we do with our final spot?

I like our defenders they seem like good "team men" but we are still leaking a goal every game do we need to look at maybe trying to secure some more solid defenders? I know our squad seems to be quite full with defenders but I just worry we have the quantity needed but not the quality? while up front now we seem to mostly have the quality but with Brockie leaving maybe not the Quantity?

Thoughts?

I think we need more defenders but I don't see the point in signing another Caira. I would like to see us sign a proven defender in the next off season or January if possible.

If Roly gets injured how will our game change (since we don't have anyone else who comes close to creating a bit of space... except maybe weemac)?

I think they push A-Rod forward. I think he shows he can live in that space as a distributor.

agree. Now is the time for Welnix to start building up Ernie's squad while we wait for the likes of Rufer to come through.  Imagine Bill Robertson on Geronimo! Choice.

Burns gives us mor height thant wee mac and krishna. Mind you having small hobbits might encourage abandoning the high ball, although Moss would need to be reprogrammed.

Rojas is so much better than everyone else in his position at the 'nix. Obviously we don't need him but why not sign him if he is available?

Because we have limited cap space and a limited number of squad spots, and we are already scoring heaps and our guys in those roles are developing a really good understanding with each other? I think long term we need to replace our centrebacks and I'd rather see the club start to plan for that.

Marco returning might generate a bit of media interest and a maybe put a few more bums on seats though.

Would take him back in an instant. Despite the hype,  he's better than Krishna. he's better than Kenny too; and isn't an import. Could potentially free up an import spot to try and sign a striker to give Burns competition up front.

Loan spell would be good for depth. Be handy if Burns goes to Asian Cup, if he doesn't Golden Boot will be shot to bits by mid January. Still think strengthening back/mid first choice.

I was thinking of signing Rojas for six months before he moves back to Europe. I agree about needing a centre back but are we going to sign one in January?

Fair enough, and if he wanted to come back for 6 months that'd work. I don't think we'd pick up a CB in Jan, was thinking longer term.

Not sure we need Rojas but when a quality player becomes available, especially if they are non visa, we should be in for them.

Wont be back.... from the Age

Former Melbourne Victory forward Marco Rojas has all but ruled out a return to the A-League, despite his European football dream lying in tatters.

Rojas, dubbed the "Kiwi Messi", signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga giants VfB Stuttgart last May, after being awarded the Johnny Warren Medal for the A-League's best player.

But things have unraveled for Rojas, who had also been courted by Liverpool and Juventus, in Germany.

Soccer experts in his native New Zealand have suggested Rojas might be lured back to the A-League, but the 23-year-old is eager to stay in Europe and fight for his "dream".

"I don't miss the A-League, because I know that I am where I want to be," Rojas told The Age in Furth recently.

"I'm in Europe [playing football], and this is where I always dreamed of being as a kid.

"I miss my teammates and friends that came about from the football there - and I always keep an eye on the games - but in terms of missing it in football terms? No. I'm happy here. I want to push for my dreams."

Despite his struggles, and uncertainty over his future, Rojas is confident he can turn his European fortunes around.

"Consistency is still the main part," he says.

"I still have to work on everything else, to perfect everything else, but the biggest problem - and the thing I've been trying to work on all this time - is getting my consistency going.

"Even when I was playing in Australia, I wasn't as good as I know I can be in every game. Once I can get that consistency in the trainings here, I can push on to the games.

"If that happens, I'm sure situations like this will be just a long lesson - and a memory."

Does anyone know when Roy gets his citizenship, Albert too?

The general consensus is that Roy is next year, as for Albert - wasn't there something about him going back to spain after his first year here? So he's probably a few years away still.
