The general consensus is that Roy is next year, as for Albert - wasn't there something about him going back to spain after his first year here? So he's probably a few years away still.

He told Hampster he hasn't even applied his residence yet, which is different to what was reported in 2013 (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10887895)

Roy Krishna will apply for residency in May and then will have to wait five years to become a citizen, so still an import for a while yet.

Seems like a waste of a visa spot if that's true.  Yes he's playing well and is a good import whom I've always rated BUT is he really worth that visa spot of another 3-5 years?

If he is scoring goals, why not?
So much this. I wonder how well Krishna would have to play before he did deserve it? There's this kind of mythical idea about imports that they'll all give Ifill or Berisha levels of impact but realistically a lot of A League imports have either been flops or no better than locals.

Probably isn't helped by our history of mediocre imports... I still believe imports should be on a level that you cannot find domestically, otherwise whats the point? But quality imports often comes down to money, which Welnix don't want to spend too much of.

As long as Krishna holds onto his form I dont think most people will have a problem with him taking a up spot.

The greater implication is that if he is an import, then Kenny is gone and we can't sign any other imports for next year.

Key statement. I really believe this is where the haves and the have nots are separated.

Seems quite likely that the rule about imports will be pushed back, all the teams are against it.

Either way, does anyone expect Kenny to be re-signed? I certainly do not.

Sorry, can you expand on that? Are you saying that the clubs are against limits on imports?

No, that is NOT what the club's are saying.

That infers they want either no limits, or an increase in the number of imports allowed.

The article specifically states that what they are against is a reduction in the number of imports allowed from 5 to 4. They are arguing that the number remain at 5, NOT that there should be no limit or a higher limit.

Limiting imports further seems a bit stupid. If you are a talented Australian then you are going to get your chance. Even though some of the imports right now are low quality, having 5 imports does give teams a bit more flexibility. Either way, this is an issue which needs to be cleared up immediately because teams want to negotiate new contracts.

I think Cunningham would be on the way out anyway. I would like to have the possibility of using an import spot on a defender.

I would like to see it moved to 4 imports. That means you are going to put a bit more emphasis on bringing in decent ones that will make your team better not the over the hill Fowler and Heskeys that we have seen.

But don't we want to see the likes of the Fowlers and Heskey's playing here? I do. The likes of ADP and York certainly added something during their time here but I do appreciate what you're saying in that its the probably the quality of the import that is more important than the number of them.

If they expand to 2 more Aussie based clubs that's at least 12 more starting spots available for Aussies. I think there's a risk that expansion plus a drop in number of imports combined could lower the quality of the league as a whole by spreading talent more thinly. From the Nix perspective though that would be a good thing because the relative advantage of having both kiwis and Aussies count as locals would be greater.

With only 4 imports would we have ever risked Riera, Krishna or Rodriquez?

Yea, he is missing that golden touch in front of goal that set him apart from the pack las year. ACFC could have been in the final if he was more deadly with his finishing.

Patrick Antelmi - any thoughts?

Not enough syllables. Needs to change his name by deed poll to something like "An-te-li-mi" for it to scan in most chants.

I'd take Aucklands left back.

I have been underwhelmed with Doyle thus far and Muscat is getting older...

Unfortunately, I think he's an import so no go. Devries has a kiwi passport now so he can be signed as a local, same with Burfoot soon I believe.

Instead of signing new players I'd be keen to see Rufer and Boyd get more opportunities.
